Rio, Sorento Help Boost Kia’s Canada March 2013 Sales

March sales numbers for Kia Canada were down a little from the numbers posted in 2012.

The 5,877 units sold represent a decrease of 11.3% from the previous year.

A trio of Kia vehicles crossed the 1,000 units sold mark during the month of March 2013.

The Rio subcompact car continued its reign at the top, living up to its Motoring TV’s 2013 ‘Best Small Car award, with 1,820 units sold. That was enough for a 72% year over year increase.

The Rio has been a real success story in Canada, and the most recent numbers are actually the best ever for the Rio lineup in the history of Kia Canada.

Combined, the Rio sedan and hatchback totaled 3,565 units in the first quarter, which is a very solid 52% increase over the previous year.

The all-new 2014 Sorento SUV also performed well, moving 1,212 units, which represents a 6% gain over the previous year. Rounding out the three vehicles was the Optima midsize sedan, selling 1,046 units.

Jack Uczciwek, Director of Sales, Kia Canada Inc., said that Kia Canada is in the midst of transitioning much of its lineup, with no less than seven new vehicles revealed in the last 90 days alone.

He believes that sales will see another spike in the coming months now that the redesigned 2014 Sorento is now available and the all-new 2014 Forte sedan is right around the corner.

New Kia Models In Canada

March 2013 has been a month that has seen Kia introduced a number of new vehicles globally.

It all began with the Geneva Motor Show, where they revealed the B-segment inspired Provo concept.

As the month came to an end, Kia then introduced a compact, 4-door concept at the Seoul International Motor Show under the CUB moniker.

The all-new Kia Soul Urban Utility Vehicle and the Forte Koup were unveiled at the New York International Auto Show.

A refreshed Optima will arrive in Canadian showrooms later this year as a 2014 model.

To top it all off, the Kia Rondo 2,0L GDI scored a prestigious ‘Red Dot’ design award. That particular vehicle is another one that should be arriving in Canadian showrooms in the next month or so. [Source: Kia]

  1. I had the opportunity to drive the all new 2014 Rondo EX, that engine is more powerful than it appears on paper. It is easily an equal to the old 2.4L. The new model has a lot of neat features, like under floor storage in the second row, one of the two cargo lights is a portable flashlight.
