We have been given a hint that Kia has already unveiled a 2016 Soul in domestic market.

While there are no cosmetic changes to report, the 2016 Soul has been given a significant upgrade in terms of the powertrain technology!

According to the Korean automobile media, the funky Soul crossover received a brand-new 7-speed DCT (dual clutch transmission) for the 2016 model year.

The new seven-speed DCT is only available on the Soul fitted with the fuel-savy 1,6L CRDI diesel engine.

2016 SoulDeveloped in conjunction with Hyundai, the automaker’s brand-new 7-speed DCT has been engineered to provide lower fuel consumption and improved performance of the vehicle.

Kia states that the 2016 Soul crossover vehicle, fitted with the 1,6L CRDI diesel engine and seven speed DCT delivers a fuel economy of 15,8 km/l, a 12% improvement over the current model.

Korean-market pricing

The Korean-market Soul prices start at 16.0 million won ($14,240) to 20.75 million won ($18,450) for 1.6L gasoline models, while the diesel-powered models stand between 20.75 million won ($18,450) and 22.75 million won ($20,250).

US-Market changes for 2017?

What are the expected changes for the US Kia Soul 2017 (model year)?

Not much will change about the 2016 Soul, according to latest rumors from sources close to Kia Motors America.

The automaker has yet to reveal whether it plans to fit the upcoming 2016 Soul with the seven-speed DCT or not.

We believe that the 7-speed DCT could eventually reach the Kia dealership showroom floor sometime soon.

If not already this year, Kia will make it available after the Soul receives a mid-cycle facelift late next year (for 2017 model year).
