Kia Canada September sales increase

Kia continues to post strong sales numbers in Canada. Although the overall sales fell almost 3 percent in September from a year earlier Kia managed to increase it’s sales by a whooping 34 percent!

Canadian car and light-truck sales fell 2.9 percent in September from a year earlier to 131,853 vehicles.A scant 0.1 percent increase in truck sales, totaling 61,237 vehicles, could not offset a 5.3 percent drop in car sales to 70,616 vehicles.

Current market share leader General Motors saw sales drop 6.6 percent to 33,090. Sales at Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Hummer and Saab brands dropped by double digits. In contrast, Saturn sales rose 13.5 percent.

canada.jpgKorean automaker Hyundai-Kia posted a 21.6 percent sales gain over September 2006 to 10,410 vehicles. Hyundai-brand sales grew 16.3 percent and at the smaller Kia brand rose 34.8 percent.

Ford Motor Co. sold 14,973 cars and light trucks in September, down 8.7 percent.

Chrysler LLC sold 13,097 trucks in September, a 21.2 percent increase. That more than made up for the company’s 27.3 percent drop in car sales. Chrysler sold a combined 17,011 cars and light trucks for a 5.1 percent gain.

Among Japanese brands, sales fell at Toyota, Nissan and Honda and rose by double digits at Mitsubishi, Subaru and Suzuki.Results were mixed for German automakers. BMW AG sales rose 6.2 percent. Sales at Daimler AG and Volkswagen AG fell.

Through the first nine months of the year, Canadian sales are up 3.9 percent to 1,295,555. [Source: Autonews]
