Kia Canada: Record sales in May

Kia Canada today reported the month of May 2008 was it’s best sales month ever. Sales of Kia cars rose 6.2 percent last month with strong gains for Spectra sedan. Total May sales increased to 4010 vehicles from 3775 sold during the same month a year earlier.

Sales were mainly boosted by an increase in Rio (up 16%) and Spectra (up 23.8%). Rondo sold well too (up 4.9%) and continues to be one of the most popular vehicles for Canadians seeking the versatility and convenience this vehicle offers.

“These challenging economic conditions have consumers searching for the best value for their dollar. Kia’s fuel efficient, standard features-packed line of vehicles like the Spectra and Rio continue to grow in sales and popularity.” said says Maria Soklis, Director of Corporate Planning and Communications.

So far this year, sales are up nearly 11 percent to 14.889 vehicles from 13.318 at this point last year.

10 thoughts on “Kia Canada: Record sales in May

  1. Kia Canada is now tied with Volkswagen with a 2.1% market share on YTD figures

  2. With it’s sales going up each month, I guess next month Kia will be in 9th position just in front of VW.
How far do you think Kia can go with new models such as Soul and TD/Spectra/Forte?
Do you think they can overtake Hyundai? Hyundai is doing quite good in Canada isn’t it?

  3. himi – by asking if they are in the top ten are you referring to market share, if so, here is the positions YTD to the end of May for Canada:
    1. GM – 21.7%
    2. Chrysler – 14.7%
    3. Ford – 12.6%
    4. Toyota – 12.8%
    5. Honda – 9.5%
    6. Mazda – 5.3%
    7. Hyundai – 4.9%
    8. Nissan – 4.7%
    9. Kia and Volkswagen – 2.1%
    10. Acura – 1.3%

  4. It also shows that a lot of Canadians have their heads up their hindquarters, too. Look who’s the top selling-car in Cananada!

  5. Bryan didn’t reply, but K-Sport that answer is incorrect, that market share list is manufacturers not vehicles. GM is a company not an actual car brand. The top-selling car in Canada is the Honda Civic.
