USA: Kia sales in May 2011

Kia Motors America’s unprecedented growth trend continued in May with the brand posting its best-ever monthly sales of 48.212 units – a 53.4-percent increase from May 2010, and a 2.4-percent increase over the previous record set last month.

Kia’s year-to-date sales are up 44.8 percent over 2010, while the brand’s U.S. market share climbed to an all-time high on the strength of May sales. The U.S. built* Sorento was Kia’s best-selling vehicle for the 17th consecutive month.

Demand for the popular Soul urban passenger vehicle remained high in May, exceeding its previous best-ever sales total with 11.157 units sold.

“Kia’s record performance this year, and in the last three months, is a testament to our comprehensive and fuel-efficient vehicle lineup, which offers world-class styling and cutting-edge technology to today’s discerning shoppers,” said Byung Mo Ahn, group president and CEO of KMA and Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG).

“Consumers are increasingly focused on fuel economy, and with Optima Hybrid arriving in showrooms this month and the debut of the 2012 Rio and Rio5 sub-compacts this fall, Kia will offer three vehicles that achieve 40 miles per gallon before the end of the year.” [Source: Kia]

12 thoughts on “USA: Kia sales in May 2011

  1. 200,060 Kia’s sold in 2011 by May, and, 138,163 Kia’s sold in 2010 by May. Nice increase, Kia, keep it up! Let’s just call an ace an ace and a spade a spade.

  2. In Australia, Kia took 10th position, overtaking Honda in new car sales for May.

  3. Lets move up the launch date for the 2012 Rio and Rio5 and keep the momentum moving forward. The launch of the new 2012 Hyundai Accent is no reason to delay. No comparison at all with these two vehicles except they both ride on tires and share the same 1.6 L GDI engine. Go Kia!

  4. Kia Canada also reports another record month in sales with 6,928 units, achieving 29 months of consecutive growth. 26% year-to-date increase, 20.9% growth compared to May 2010. Best sales month ever for the Forte, Soul and 2011 Sportage.

Top three selling models – Forte, Soul and Sorento.

  5. Kia outsold GMC, Mazda, and Nissan in Canada in May. At its current trajectory, it should overtake Mazda and GMC for the year. Nissan maybe, depending partly on supply.

  6. You can`t sell what`s not on the lot. KIa should make sure their Sohari Plant is ready for 3 shifts to pump out the 2012 Kia Rio and Rio5 at Launch. KIa is on a Roll…..Let`s get the 2012 Rio to the Dealerships NOW! The new 2012 Accent is a Bore….yawn.

  7. Yeah…I wouldn’t even expect to see the 2012 Rio or Rio5 until October at the EARLIEST.

  8. On the Vince Burlap Auto Blog a poster who lives near the Kia development center in Orange County, (Irving) CA shot a pic of a 2012 KIa Rio5 and said they see lots of them buzzing around town every morning. Pre-production models, no doubt but full production must be planned shortly. Hyundai wants to give its boring new 2012 Accent a few months head start before the Kia Rio is launched.

  9. The 2012 Hyundia Accent doesn’t hold a legitimate candle to the 2012 Kia Rio HB, boys. Not even close at tall.
