A Handful Of Tricked Out Kia Souls Displayed At 2013 SEMA
Kia Motors America opened the 2013 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show in Las Vegas with a light and music show that was the perfect complement to the 5 music-inspired 2014 Soul’s they had on show.
The display was something that was very much as home in the glitzy Vegas setting where the SEMA show is taking place.
Each of the 5 custom creations had a nod to the music business, including a Soul inspired by NBC’s The Voice, a Music Memorabilia Soul, a DJ Booth Soul, and one that highlights the partnership Kia has with the Vans Warped Tour.
Each of the Soul’s is like a song that tells a story of its own.
Michael Sprague, executive vice president, marketing and communications, KMA, said that the connection between the Soul and music has been alive and well since the car first hit the streets in 2009.
He spoke about the use of music in the advertising, with artists like LMFAO, Black Sheep and Lady Gaga all appearing in spots for the Soul.
The latest ad actually made its TV debut during the MTV Video Music Awards, once again showing off the musical side of the Soul. He said that Kia viewed SEMA as the perfect venue to get creative with the musical aspect of the car.
Three of the five vehicles, built by Galpin Auto Sports and LUX Motorwerks, feature premium audio components that are usually reserved for live performances, with the remaining cars designed to celebrate musical trends and lifestyles.
Amped Kia Soul
The JBL Pro Live equipment is features in the hinged rear doors, turning the Soul into a mobile, oversized boom box.
LED lighting and Infinity subwoofers are also included to deliver a combination of light and sound that will impress any audience.
The cool design of the Soul is further enhanced with additions like blacked out windows and a custom paint job.
Large 22-inch custom wheels by Forgiato have been added, as have Hankook 245/30/22 tires.
The B-pillar has been taken out to make extra room for all that equipment, making this Soul a plug and play sound system for musicians.
Vans Warped Tour Soul
That all starts with the custom paint job, with the Vans Warped signature colors used in the design. Fiberglass body panels were used in place of the windows, with each panel housing 8-inch Infinity speakers designed to deliver a concert sound.
Finishing off the live experience is a 50-inch flat screen TV mounted on top of the car.
The Vans Warped Tour, embraces music, food, and friendship, which is why this Soul had a slide out BBQ grill for the ultimate tailgate experience.
A custom hood ornament paying homage to the iconic shoe company was also added. This Soul features 20-inch low-profile tires and LED lighting to complete its live music loving look.
DJ Booth Soul
RIDES magazine have their fingerprints all over this version of the 2014 Kia Soul.
The car is a DJ’s dream come true, starting with the specially designed roof that is left open to allow the DJ to stand on a diamond-plated stage as he spins.
The rear seats were removed to make way for the stage, as well as the pro-grade Pioneer CDJ and mixer. The EDM and hip-hop influences can be seen in the purple and turquoise colors.
The DJ Booth Soul has been lowered to give a more aggressive stance, while riding on 19-inch Rotiform BRU wheels with Continental tires. Lighting is also heavily used, with LED’s and strobe lights used to full effect.
The interior of this Soul looks like a super cool lounge, with black leather and graphite suede used throughout.
A MaschineMikro production studio is built into the passenger dash and has all the controls right at the fingertips of the DJ.
A Pioneer audio system is in place that features five amplifiers, three component speakers, two 10-inch and two 12-inch Champion Series subwoofers, and a sound bar housing four coaxial speakers that combine to deliver a sound that would blow the roof off the average nightclub.
Music Memorabilia Soul
The artistry and diversity of music are celebrated in this version of the Kia Soul.
RIDES magazine did an incredible job of rounding up music memorabilia that span a number of different genres.
They include such items as A Jimi Hendrix gold album, a guitar from Slash, a G-Unit sneaker signed by 50 Cent, and a John Legend microphone. All of the pieces are showcased in Plexiglas displays that have been placed in various spots at the rear of the car.
The gold and platinum records awarded to top-selling artists served as the inspiration for the exterior. Gold exhaust tips and anodized 20-inch gold HRE 935s were used.
On the inside, the theme continues with gold stitching used on the black suede and leather seats and interior finishes. Ark Performance spring and Nitto tires add to the award-winning style of this Kia Soul.
ABC’s The Voice is a singing contest unlike any other, with hopefuls putting their hearts and talent on the line in hopes of landing a record deal.
RIDES magazine was behind the custom paintwork on the exterior, featuring The Voice logo on the side, as well as the words “I Want You” illuminated on the front grille.
Much like the contestants on the show, this is a vehicle that is expected to perform under pressure. It does that by riding on 20-inch three-piece Niche Scope wheels color-matched to the vehicle, coupled with Falken tires.
The chairs on the interior have been designed to match the coaches’ chairs on the show, with red and black leather used to complete that look.
Future stars can use their time in the vehicle to practice their vocal talents by using an iPad2 Mini connected to a 40-inch LED screen that allows them to use The Voice app.
A wireless microphone is included, with the sounds amplified through Rockford Fosgate speakers in their fiberglass custom pods.
