The Sporty Forte Koup Getting A Boost Of Turbocharged Power For 2014

Kia seems to have learned something from the major players at SEMA in Las Vegas, as they are upping the ante with the second-generation Forte Koup.

Kia’s sporty 2-door will be getting a boost of turbocharged power for the 2014 model year.

The entire Forte family has been given a new look for the 2014 model year and a revised engine line-up, which includes the first ever 1.6-liter gasoline direct injected turbo engine.

The pricing for the Koup will come closer to launch date, which is expected to be in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Much like the 2014 Forte5, the Koup 2-door will come in a pair of different trim levels (EX and SX) and engine choices.

The EX has a 2.0-liter GDI 4-cylinder engine under the hood, whereas the SX comes standard with a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder.

Both trim levels come with a 6-speed manual as standard, with the option of a 6-speed automatic that features steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.

2014 Kia Forte Koup EX, SX Trims

The one thing that the Forte Koup has in common with the rest of the Forte family is that it comes with a large selection of technology and amenities.

Standars in the Koup EX is Bluetooth wireless, 16-inch alloy wheels, UVO with rear camera, tilt and telescopic steering column, leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio and cruise control buttons, FlexSteer, power windows, and LED positioning headlights with fog lights.

Moving up to the SX gets you dual chrome exhaust tips, 18-inch alloys, and LED tail lights.

The Forte Koup SX also comes with an aggressive looking front fascia that features an large bumper and grille opening, as well as black glosse grille inserts.

It also comes with alloy sport pedals, larger front brakes, abd rear seats with carbon fiber style inserts. The carbon fiber look is carried over to the rear valance and front fascia.

Features found on both the EX and SX trim levels include optional navigation system with HD radio, SmartKey with push button start, HID headlights, electric chromatic rearview mirror, heated steering wheel, sunroof, 10-way adjustable power driver’s seat, heated front seats and ventilated driver’s seat, and leather trimmed seating surfaces.

1,6L T-GDI Turbo Engine Exclusive To Forte Koup SX

The 1.6-liter GDI turbocharged 4-cylinder engine found in the SX makes it the most powerful Kia Koup ever.

All of that power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.

A total of 201 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 195 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,750-4,500 rpm is produced via the GDI.

Efficiency and performance is improved via an advanced powertrain that has double overhead cams with dual continuously variable valve timing.

Standard Engine On Forte Koup EX

The standard engine in the EX is a 2.0-liter GDI powerplant producing 173 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 154 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,700 rpm.

Testing was performed were the engine was run at redline under full load for 300 hours straight. That was followed by 20 more hours at 10% above redline under full load.

Performance of the Forte Koup is further improved by the addition of a sport-tuned suspension with a McPherson strut in front and a torsion beam in the rear.

The tires on the Koup are 205/55R-16 tires on the EX and 225/40R-18 tires on the SX.

  2. Dissapointed in the front fascia of the Kia Koupe. Why is it not using the GT or Cadenza front fascia. This to me is a let down. Visually it holds the car down.
