There is a definite European feel to the design, but more importantly, the 2015 Sedona comes with the sort of interior volume that buyers in the segment demand.
It’s a spacious, quiet cabin that has plenty of space for passengers and cargo alike.
In recent years, Kia has risen to the upper echelons of the automotive world by delivering a ton of standard features along with their sophisticated designs.
Their latest “people mover” is no different in that regard, as it comes loaded with upscale features and technological upgrades, with all of them found in the top of the line SXL trim level.
Launch Date, Pricing
US drivers will be able to get behind the wheel of the all-new Sedona in the latter part of the year.
Pricing for all trim levels will be announced closer to the release date.
The Most Attractively Styled Minivan On The Market
A bold front fascia and cabin-forward design give the vehicle a real sense of strength and confidence.
Kia’s new minivan has a face that is equal parts smooth and muscular, thanks in large part to the updated signature Kia grille and the addition of LED positioning lights.
The wheelbase is a little longer (1.6 inches) than the outgoing model, while the side profile has reduced front and rear overhangs.
Throw in a deeply swept windshield and available 19-inch alloy wheels, and you have a truly distinctive looking vehicle.
Around back, you will see a whole new layout, with integrated bumper guard, LED taillights, and a standard roof spoiler all added to the new look.
Comfort and Convenience on the Inside
The driver also gets to benefit from a higher hip-point that makes outward visibility much better.
Horizontal design cues on the instrument panel give the vehicle a feeling of width, while soft touch materials help raise the comfort level to premium status.
The layout of the cabin allows for flexible seating and storage options in both the seven and eight passenger models.
One thing that the Sedona has that you won’t find anywhere else in the segment is the front center console, which delivers a ton of extra storage options.
Slide-n-Stow Second Row Seat Configuration
You also have the option of going with “First Class” seats in the second row, with these particular seats lounge-style with the option of being rearward facing. That means additional comfort and legroom for the passengers back there.
Some of the configurations feature seat cushion heaters in the second row, but all trim models of the 2015 Kia Sedona have a third row that offers a convenient 60/40 split folding, in-floor retractable design.
Exclusive Anti-microbial Stuff… Read Further
Another great feature of the Sedona that won’t be found anywhere else in the segment is the use of YES Essential fabric technology that offers anti-microbial protection against spills and static shocks.
It also comes with stain-repelling characteristics that owners with a young family will very much appreciate.
Interior Color Palette
The interior space is made all the more vibrant by the use of a modern color palette throughout.
The two-tone options available come in gray, beige, and burgundy, each of which deliver a truly inviting interior space.
The top of the line SXL comes standard with ultra-soft Nappa leather seating, as well as the same Chromium-free leather found in the K900 luxury sedan.
Improved Driving Dynamics
The body is comprised of 76% Ultra High Strength Steel or High Strength Steel, both of which delivery high levels of rigidity, durability, and protection in a collision despite being incredibly lightweight.
Large diameter welds and adhesives were used to improve the overall strength and structural integrity of the vehicle.
The rigid chassis make the Sedona more than road ready, while the use of Amplitude Selected Dampers (ASD) deliver a perfect balance between ride comfort and handling.
Revised cross-member bushings and an isolated rear sub-frame with longer trailing arms and added rear strut reinforcement have been added to the platform to help improve the ride dynamics.
Furthermore, you can expect the Sedona to be one of the quietest rides in the segment.
This is because Kia has employed wheel-house padding, double seal sliding doors and an expanded use of sound-deadening foam in the engine compartment, all of which combines to deliver a smoother, quieter ride.
3,3L V6 GDI Engine, 6-Speed Automatic Gearbox
There is some real power to be found under the hood in the form of a new Lambda Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) 3.3-liter V6 engine.
This is the same powerplant that appears in the Sorento CUV and the Cadenza premium sedan. This engine provides more power than the outgoing model, delivering 276 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, and it has been tuned for enhanced mid-range torque, offering 248 lb.-ft. at 5,200 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Engine “breathing” is improved with the introduction of a three-step Variable Induction System (VIS).
The system will control the amount of air it pulls into the combustion chamber based on the load conditions of the vehicle. Also included is Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) that combines with a piston-cooling oil jet that improves cooling efficiency.
Safety and Convenience
A stunning array of safety features can be found in the all-new 2015 Kia Sedona, making it one of the safest vehicles in the segment.
It also comes with a slew of convenience features, including a high-power (2.1 AMP) USB charging port and a 115-volt AC outlet to charge small electronics as well as a dual glove box that offers a cooled lower storage area.
The Surround View Monitor uses cameras employed around the vehicle to make parking and maneuvering in tight spots a great deal easier.
Smart Welcome technology is used to illuminate the door handles and unfold the power retractable side mirrors when the system detects the vehicle key fob.
