Primeaux Kia in Tulsa, OK, Starts Dealership Expansion
Henry Primeaux is attempting to keep up with the growth of the Kia brand by expanding his dealership.
Primeaux Kia, which operates out of Tulsa, broke ground last week on a $2.8 million expansion that will see the showroom and dealership expand in order to try and give the South Korean brand the sort of presence that its amazing sales growth deserves.
Primeaux said that the new space was needed in order to keep pace with the number of cars they sell.
The plans include a totally new building close to the street on the existing property, as well as remodels and upgrades in a few different parts of the dealership. There will also be a new façade that fits into the company’s current dealership design.
All told, there will be 12,000 square feet of additional space that will mean a larger display area and extra office space for Primeaux’s 40 employees.
Primeaux initially purchased the 4747 S. Yale Ave. location back in 2006, right before the Kia brand really started to take off.
His previous business ventures included a BMW Buick Jeep and Crown auto dealerships in Tulsa and Bristow. As of now, Primeaux’s focus is solely on the Kia brand.
The Kia name has become synonymous with economical and reliable cars, which has translated into brisk sales.
Those sales rose by 13% last year alone, placing Kia in 9th place in US market share, according to numbers released by the National Automobile Dealers Association.
Primeaux said that he sells more than 100 Kia cars every month, which means that Kia needs him to have at least 7 showroom spots, which is much more than the 3 he currently has.
The expansion will mean that those 7 spots will become a reality. It will also mean that much of the existing clutter will be removed, much of which is caused by desk space for the sales team.
The service shops will also be improved during expansion. The total floor space for the dealership will be 62,000 after expansion is complete.
The location used to be an Oldsmobile dealership, and has a unique 3-story parking garage in the rear of the space. That can actually be used to house over 300 vehicles, whilst also protecting them from the elements.
The expansion comes at a perfect time, with Kia looking to expand their current line-up of seven vehicles. That will happen with the release of the 2014 Cadenza, Forte Koup and Forte 5-door hatchback in the third quarter of the year.
