Kia Launches Optima Hybrid 2014 MY, Pictures Included
Kia continues to roll out the eco-friendly cars at the Chicago Auto Show with the introduction of the 2014 Optima Hybrid midsize sedan.
The Optima Hybrid 2014 is a further extension of the advancements made on its gas-powered sibling, which hit the market last fall.
There are some exclusive additions to the hybrid model, such as redesigned front and rear fascias that improve aerodynamics, a new grille and lights, and new wheel designs.
More Advanced Than Previous Optima Hybrid
It is fair to say that the latest version is even more advanced than the outgoing model that was ranked as one of the “Top 11 Most Fuel-Efficient Sedans for 2013” by Edmunds.com.
You can’t talk about the Optima Hybrid without mentioning the importance of Kia’s advanced propulsion.
This is a vehicle that truly stands alone in the segment thanks to the small carbon footprint it leaves and the money that it leaves in the pocket of the owner.
On top of the gas savings, the car also displays a real design flair, as well as great performance and an upscale personality.

LX, EX Trim Levels: The refreshed 2014 Kia Optima hybrid car comes in either LX or EX trims, with each delivering a high level of drivability thanks to the inclusion of a 47 HP electric traction motor, a strong Hybrid Starter Generator -HSG and a powerful 47 kW lithium polymer battery.
Fuel Economy / MPG Figures: That setup delivers a combined gas-electric 199 hp and a combined 235 lb.-ft. of torque. The fuel rating s are great, with the LX achieving 36/40/38 mpg city/highway/combines, while the EX delivers an estimated 35/39/37.

All of the upgrades made to the Optima were done with fuel efficiency very much in mind. As well as the aforementioned aerodynamic changes, the front bumper also features vents that increase airflow and reduce drag.
The LX gets new 16-inch alloy wheels, while the EX gets 17-inch variants, with each designed to be more aerodynamic, whilst also reducing weight and drag.
On top of all the elements designed for fuel efficiency, the Optima Hybrid also has some aesthetically pleasing new touches.
That starts with the new front grille design, and also includes LED lighting, an elegant optional white leather package, the addition of Hybrid badges, and more. Technology is also well represented, with a number of upscale, high-tech amenities added into the mix.
The 2014 model year Optima is started via push-button technology, bringing to life the 4.3-inch TFT LCD instrument cluster and optional 8-inch navigation screen, where telematics and navigation are displayed via the UVO eServices system.
Also included is killer Infinity audio system, HD radio, and SiriusXM satellite radio that features all sorts of great entertainment and important traffic information.
As you might expect, there is an excellent array of safety features to be found on the updated Kia Optima Hybrid.
Both trims have driver and passenger front airbags as standard, as well as airbags in the form of full-length side curtains and seat-mounted side bags.
Also included are antilock brake system -ABS, vehicle stability management -VSM and electronic stability control -ESC. Traction control system -TCS and Hill Start Assist Control -HAC also come standard on all Optima models.
