Official: KX3 Concept Gets AWD and 1.6L Turbo Engine

Most of the automotive world have their eyes firmly set on the ongoing Los Angeles Motor Show, but Kia has decided to unveil their new SUV concept in Guangzhou, China.

Not as crazy as you might think, since the vehicle previews a China-exclusive B-segment crossover vehicle.

Kia explained that the concept car was designed to appeal to younger Chinese consumers looking for high-quality and an outgoing lifestyle.

What is quickly apparent is that the KX3 is influenced by the current Sportage CUV.

The coupe-like roofline found on the Sportage is visible on the KX3, as is the high-rising beltline and strong wheel arches.

The tiger nose grille has been tweaked and had a chrome look with wraparound LED headlights.

According to Kia, the KX3 is 4,260mm long and 1,765mm wide, making it a little shorter and narrower than the current Sportage. Both are the same height, though.

Under the hood you will find a 1.6-liter turbo petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and AWD system.

While the car may only be a concept model, Kia engineers have ensured that the chassis is designed to achieve a 5-star C-NCAP rating.

On the inside, the description sounds like a car that is ready for production.

Kia says that the vehicle will have all the latest connectivity technology included, as well as a great selection of standard equipment and available options.

Even when creating a concept, Kia can’t stop trying to deliver great value.

There is no official word as to whether or not the car will go into production, although we have heard of several rumor suggesting that a production model could be ready as early as next year.

  1. Is someone posting multiple comments or is this guy for real!

Reality is KIA is differentiated enough to not be a complete rip off clone from others and the sooner people stop this emotional BS the better. KIA is nailing designs and so is Hyundai………others look average as. Take new Ford Mondeo – it looks average and old hat even before it was released!

  2. It is only self absorbed self centred emotional people with gut wrenched ties to another brand that draws the weak conclusion KIA is copying. The KX3 is hot as and enough different from the other mundane average so so that is sameness with others that is infested in market. THIS IS WHY KIA HYUNDAI MOTOR GROUP is on march very quick on worldwide sales and the others should be worried as when you scan through and have a look at Toyota Yaris (as sold in Australia) it looks a shocker and looks like Rowan Atkinson designed it after 3 beers (what was Toyota thinking – AGAIN).
