New Rio Leads Kia’s July 2013 Sales In Canada

Kia Canada announced sales of 7,616 units in July, falling just short of the 7,685 units they sold in July 2012.

This was a great start to the second half of the year, with much of the strong performance down to the new models that Kia introduced during the first six months of 2013.

Three models were among the leaders for Kia, contributing over 1,000 units during the month.

The Rio subcompact, Motoring TV’s 2013 ‘Best Small Car’ and Red Dot design winner, had its 5-door hatchback and sedan combine for sales of 1,793 units, for a 41.4% sales growth over the previous year.

There was also a nice sales growth for the Rio through the first 7 months of the year, hitting 10,251 for an increase of 27.5% over the previous year.

Coming in second for Kia was the US-built, redesigned for 2014, Kia Sorento with 1,438 sales nationwide.

Another car that made its debut earlier in the year, the 2014 Forte, saw an increase of 6% over last year with sales of 1,071 units.

The all-new red dot design award-winning Rondo Urban Utility Vehicle (UUV) contributed to 750 sales in the month, resulting in a 51% increase versus July 2012.

Robert Staffieri, Director of Marketing, Kia Canada Inc. said that the new vehicles introduced earlier in year really helped Kia hit its stride in sales volume over the past 90 days.

He went on to say that he believes the surge in sales will continue through August with the start of a new campaign called the Zero Compromise Sales Event, which is aimed at letting Canadians know they can have everything they want in a car without the premium price tag.

July also saw Kia Canada launch the 4rd annual Drive Change Day initiative which will take place on August 21st.

The idea of the event is to improve local communities and promote positive change across the country.

Shaw Media and TVA have partnered with Kia to promote the event, with Kia asking all of their dealerships across Canada to play their part in the community.

Kia has chosen MADD Canada to help them focus their efforts on road safety across the country. The pair are asking all Canadians to pledge not to drink and drive, which they can do by visiting www.MapOfHope.ca.
