MotorWeek Says Soul EV Is The Perfect Electric Car!
The Kia Soul went all-electric with the EV model, and it has now been named MotorWeek’s Best Eco-Friendly Car at the 24th annual Drivers Choice Awards.
John Davis, host and executive producer at MotorWeek, said that the Soul was the perfect EV.
He also spoke about the passenger and cargo space, the unparalleled range, and of course the iconic Kia Soul style.
The zero emissions delivered are just a bonus with the 2015 Soul EV as it is the range that really shines, coming in at a segment best 93 miles.
Also a plus was the use of bio-based materials inside the cabin, which was recognized by Underwriters Laboratories.
The Soul EV comes with a host of standard features, such as an 8-inch touchscreen navigation system, DC fast charge port, a 6.6kW on-board charger, power windows and driver’s seat, Rear Camera Display, pedestrian warning system, cruise control, a heated steering wheel, and an HVAC system that minimized energy use to add more range.
Power is sent to the front wheels, with the electric motor delivering 109 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque.
All told, you get 120 mpge city and 92 mpge highway.
A fully depleted battery can be charged in 24 hours using a standard 120v outlet, or less than 5 hours with a 240v outlet.
Using a 50kW-output DC fast charger can see the charge taken to 80% from empty in about 33 minutes.
As far as cargo space goes, if you opt for the cargo tray, you can get 18 cubic feet of space with the seats up, and 49.5 when they are down.
The Soul EV starts at just $33,700 before taking into account the $7,500 federal tax credit.
