Morries Plans To Expand Subaru-Kia Dealership In Minnetonka
Morrie’s Automotive Group in Minnetonka is set to expand their Subaru-Kia dealership by taking over available space in the neighborhood.
That will be a vacant restaurant on Baker’s Square.
The new space will add a much-needed 4,000 square feet to the existing property, which is currently sitting in the 40,000 to 45,000 square foot range. The Baker’s Square would be torn down so that parking space could also be added.
Morrie’s paid around $1.4 million for the vacant property in Baker’s Square back in 2002. The Wayzata Blvd. property was rented to a restaurant which closed its doors in 2008.
Morrie’s Chief Operating Officer Karl Schmidt says that both Subaru and Kia franchises have experienced real growth in recent years, which is why the company opted to expand the showrooms to accommodate the expected high traffic.
He went on to say that a little modernization was in order to add a more contemporary look, although he was quick to stress that the company was not required to make those changes.
Those changes will be very different from the original plans that Morrie’s had for the expansion.
That is because Baker’s Square was not originally included. The company will need approval from both the Minnetonka Planning Commission and City Council before moving forward. [Source: BusinessJournal]
