Kia’s global sales jump 39 percent in February 2010

Kia Motors sold 143.267 vehicles in February 2010. All major sales regions post double-digit year-on-year sales increase.

In February, Kia saw its sales rise by 39.5 percent to 143.267 units, while cumulative sales from the first two months of 2010 increased by 50.6 percent to 293.659 units.

Kia’s sales increase in February was a result of the company’s double- digit year-on-year sales growth in all major sales regions. China experienced the highest gain 128.6 percent among all markets (25.435 units sold).

Kia managed to increase its sales by 52.7 percent in General markets (32.578 units) and 34.4 percent in Europe (24.992 units sold). Sales have also increased by 11.4 percent in North American market (27.053 units), as well as in its home Korean market, where the automaker sold 33.209 (+ 21.6%) new vehicles.

The C-segment Cerato, known also as Forte in the US market, remains the best-selling vehicle in Kia’s lineup. With 28.191 units sold the Cerato leads B-segment Rio and Sportage SUV in second and third spot with 14.307 and 13.862 units sold, respectively.

Kia Picanto and cee’d are no longer members of the top five best-selling Kia models. They were replaced by the all-new Sorento and Soul crossovers. Sorentos are selling like hot cakes, particularly in the US market where the model has recorded its highest monthly sales for the second straight month. Kia sold 11.981 units of new Sorento and 8.934 Souls in overseas markets.

According to Hyoung-Keun Lee, President of Kia Motors Corporation, the company is extremely pleased with the double-digit sales growth achieved in all major sales regions last month. In addition, Kia is also happy to see that demand for its all-new Sorento crossover exceeded initial sales expectations.

  1. GREAT NEWS FOR KIA,BUT I JUST GOT A HYUNDAI SONATA 2011 GLS…MY REASON WAS THAT RUBBER TIMING BELTS THEY HAVE AND YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THEM ON MY V6 WAS AT 40k……KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ….KIA….

  2. The only Kia engines that are in vehicles and still use a rubber timing belt are the 1.6L Alpha, the 2.0L Beta, and the 2.7L Mu

  3. I think Venga’s been recalled.
    .
Euro NCAP discovered a cut in the webbing of the seat-belt on the driver’s side following the frontal impact crash test. Euro NCAP inspectors concluded that the seatbelt was damaged by interaction with the seat runners when it was under load from the dummy. Kia has produced a polypropylene sleeve to be added to the seat belt as an effective countermeasure to the problem. The car manufacturer has delayed deliveries of all new cars until the modification is fitted and is requesting those already with the vehicle, to return the car to dealers to have the protective sleeve fitted to the seat belt.

In total 2100 cars will be affected by this modification, of which 1100 have been delivered to customers and 1000 are dealer demonstrator vehicles.
    .
And after that was fixed and tested, Venga only managed to score 4 stars at euro ncap.

  4. @BJD

    No. No. You are wrong.
Euro NCAP gave 4 stars to previous unrecalled model.

Euro NCAP still not retest recalled model.

The Kia Venga also achieved a four star rating, although not without problems. During the frontal test the driver seat belt was partially cut by the lower seat rail, a serious flaw that potentially can undermine proper restraint of both frontal occupants. Kia swiftly introduced a solution and is currently taking market action to respond to Euro NCAP’s findings.

This means, they gave 4 stars score to previous unrecalled model.

  8. Im going to miss the 1.6 Alpha in a way. The last of an Era. The engine that took Hyundai/KIA from POS to good reliable cars.

Alpha 1993-2010 Im going to have a funeral for it sometime this year.

For some reason in the new Hyundai Commercials strting this week they are now calling it HON-DAY.

  9. 2011 Kia Sorento SX. The trim adds extra equipment, visual dress-up (can’t wait to see it!), and a sharper suspension compared to the LX and EX models. It’s equipped exclusively with the Sorento’s 3.5-liter V-6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission.

The SX dons new front and rear fascias, LED taillights, a chrome exhaust tip, and special silver-painted 18-inch wheels. On top are chrome roof rails; underneath, stainless-steel skid plates. Interior changes include stainless-steel pedal covers, a metallic gauge cluster surround, and extra accent lighting.

Additional standard equipment includes heated leather front seats, an auto-dimming mirror, a 10-speaker Infinity Audio surround-sound system, and a voice-activated navigation system with a backup camera. Most of these add-ons are optional on the LX and EX trims, but standard with the SX level.

The Sorento SX rides half an inch lower than other models and employs “Dual Flow Damper” shock absorbers. Kia says this gives the Sorento a sportier stance and better handling, all without compromising ride quality.
