Kia Sorento is the towcar of the year 2008!

The Kia Sorento has claimed a third consecutive victory in the headline category of The Caravan Club’s Towcar of the Year Awards 2008.

The capable 4×4 Sorento took the crown of the heavyweight category ‘All wheel drive vehicles over 1,800kg’.

It beat off ten rivals, which included a number of premium brands, to take the category win for the third year in a row.

Powered by a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 392 Nm as low down as 2000 rpm, the Sorento is well equipped where it counts – ATT (Active Torque Transfer) distributes power through the full-time all-wheel drive system. With an eye on safety, active front headrests, driver, passenger and side curtain airbags all come as standard.

The Sorento was cosmetically refreshed in late 2006 yet retained the technical specification which has seen it win the towing title for a third year.

The Kia cee’d made an appearance at the awards, managing to outshine all but one rival in the ‘Under Ł16,000’ category. The 1.6-litre CRDi engine, a Kia unit designed and built in Europe, made use of the 255 Nm of torque during testing but narrowly missed out on the category win.

This is the 25th time the Towcar Awards has been held and they take place in the centenary year of The Caravan Club.

  1. Great Sorento XT but wish I did not have Dayton GPS-does not allow French roads although says activated and too small to read for selections. Fuel consumption at 21mpg total for all conditions is ridiculous, keep checking at every fill will change to another make SUV soon.

  2. I have a Kia Sorento 2.5 turbo diesel 2007 model. Can I safely tow a new Hobby VIP twin axle caravan or would I be better to buy an Adria twin axle 2007 model caravan?
