Kia Sales Report January 2012

All great winning streaks come to an end at one time or another, but the sales streak that Kia Motors America is currently enjoying and shows no signs of slowing down at all.

January 2012 represented the seventeenth consecutive month of record sale for the South Korean second largest  automaker, and as if that weren’t enough, the percentage jump in sales seems to be getting more and more impressive with each passing month.

What’s even more impressive is that Kia isn’t relying on a single car to boost their sales, with very vehicle in their line-up playing its part in the sales success.

You might imagine January to be something of a slow sales period as it comes right on the heels of the holiday season, but it seems that the holiday spirit was still alive and well for Kia customers, with the total sales topping the previous January by an astonishing 27.8 percent, which breaks down to an increase of 7.728 units.

When all the figures were tallied, they showed that Kia had moved 35.517 units in January 2012, with the sales breaking down as follows:

Leading the way for Kia Motors America in January 2012 was the US-manufactured Optima mid-size sedan which saw a massive jump in sales to grab the top spot. More than 8.800 units of the 2012 Kia Optima were sold last month, which was an incredible increase of almost 5.000 units over the same month a year earlier.

The Soul CUV was next with 8.091 units, no doubt propelled by the amazingly successful advertising campaign featuring a trio of hip-hop hamsters. That number was a dramatic improvement over the 5.345 units sold in January of 2011.

Kia customers expressed their approval of the re-designed 2012 Rio sub-compact car by lining up in droves to land the updated version. January 2012 Kia Rio sales climbed 963 units for a total of 2.596.

Despite the fact that smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles seem to be on everyone’s shopping lists these days, the sales of the Sedona minivan still managed to jump an impressive 376 units, bringing its 2012 total to 1.442 units.

Even the vehicles that saw a decrease in sales over the previous years only saw those numbers drop a small amount. The Forte and Sportage still managed to rack up 4.417 and 2.835 sales, respectively.

The bar has been set extremely high once again, but Kia has proven that no matter how high their sales go, they always seem to find a way to break that threshold and soar to new heights, which probably has them looking forward to February with a high level of anticipation.

  1. Again I say: I wish they would differentiate models based on the model year (2011 vs 2012). The Rio just had a design change a few months ago, so how many of the previous generation Rios are in this list, compared with the new generation? Same goes for the Soul. Congrats on great sales numbers, regardless of which generation is being sold.

  2. it is clear that kia cannot exceed 40.000 cars in sales in us if toyota, honda, nissan carrying on sales number like this

  3. Kia Canada up 24% for January (over Jan 2011) with 37 months of consecutive growth. Top seller Sorento
