Kia Sales Figures – May 2013 – Optima, Sorento, Soul

It’s yet another record breaking month for Kia Motors America (KMA) with 52,327 units sold in May.

That’s a significant jump from the 47,556 units sold last month, and was perhaps bolstered by the addition of the 2014 Cadenza and Forte sedans.

Those two new vehicles are just a small part of the seven new or redesigned vehicles Kia plans to introduce in 2013.

Leading the way in May was the US-built Optima, which led the sales pack for Kia for an 18th straight month.

The midsize sedan sold 15,368 units, up from the 14,678 units it sold in April.

The combined sales of the Optima and Sorento CUV, both of which are built in the West Point, GA. plant, accounted for 40% of all Kia sales during the month of May.

Also continuing to do well is the Kia Soul, with sales of 11,420 units in May, up slightly from the 11,311 units it sold in April.

Byung Mo Ahn, group president and CEO of KMA and Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia, said that the company was committed to continually striving for new levels of sophistication.

He pointed to the all-new Cadenza, which just happens to be the most powerful and technologically advanced vehicle that Kia has ever released in the United States.

He also spoke about the 2014 Forte which scooped the top compact sedan crown ahead of all its major competitors, with Motor Trend being the one to name it to the top.

  1. Kia, when are you going to build a low cost rear wheel drive sport coupe?

  2. Keep in mind that Optima Hybrids and Optimas in the LX trim level are built in Korea, while EX, SX, and SXL trims are built in the US – meaning it is the model that currently has the highest production capacity.
