Kia sales February 2011, Optima sales take off

Kia Motors America announces record February 2011 sales as new Kia Optima sales take off…

Not only Kia Optima, but also Soul, Sorento and Forte helped the South Korean carmaker to achieve its best-ever February sales in the USA. Compared to the same month a year ago, Kia Motors America increased its sales by as much as 36 percent for a total of 36.806 units. The February sales record marks Kia’s 6th consecutive month of record sales!

Best performing vehicle in February was the 2011 Sorento crossover with sales once again crossing the 8.000 units sales mark. The popular seven-seat CUV was followed by Kia Soul with 6.684 units sold. Taking third and fourth spot were Kia Forte / Forte Koup and Kia Optima mid-size sedan with 5.304 and 4.844units sold respectively. Rounding out the top 5 best-selling Kia cars is the 2011 Kia Sportage with 3.965 units sold.

“With back-to-back monthly sales records in 2011 we are well ahead of last year’s record first quarter sales pace thanks to a fresh new model line-up which includes the head-turning Optima sedan, new Sportage crossover and tremendously popular Sorento CUV which have all raised consumer awareness and perception of the Kia brand,” commented Byung Mo Ahn, president and CEO of Kia Motors America.

Kia is now preparing to expand its vehicle line-up with new models, such as Sportage Turbo and Optima hybrid. The Sportage Turbo will feature Kia’s 2.0L GDI Turbo engine, which will bring a new level of performance and driving excitement to this popular compact crossover vehicle. We should also mention a brand-new Kia Rio sub-compact car, which is also just around the corner. The 2012 Kia Rio made its official premiere in Geneva earlier today.

  1. Wonder what the Optima will do when people in the USA know it will be built in Georgia USA this fall. Sales might skyrocket like the 2011 Sorento.

  2. Kia debuted the SX Sportage now…..pretty disappointed with the mileage. 25 HWY w/AWD (27 without)? That is 9 MPG less than the Optima….Not much better than the 2.7L. I understand the Sportage is heavier and the AWD is there, but it is less powerful. Once the Optima is built here, it will actually sell. Until then…..not so much. Kia is having a HUGE supply and demand problem.

  3. Kia Canada also had another record month:

•Kia Canada registers best February on record
•February sales volume eclipses 3870 units with a 29 per cent growth versus previous year
•Year-to-date sales continue to impress at a 27.7 per cent increase versus 2010
•All Kia Canada Regions in Canada experience record February
•Industry-best sales streak continues at 26 months

top five selling vehicles: Sorento, Forte, Soul, Rio, Sportage

  4. All I can say is the EX Turbo has bad seats. Kia needs to realize that people care about seats. A little more money to JCI for better quality seats would be appreciated. Everything else was great inside the car.

  5. SX Optima has been selling like hot cakes. My dealer in the Seattle area has receieved calls from California, Colorado, and Michigan looking at SX Optimas due to my inventory. I was luckly enough to get 10 SX from my district sales rep 😉

  6. I’m looking to purchase a new car sometime this year. The new Kia Optima has really caught my eye but until recently I have always thought of Kia as a lower-quality maker of automobiles. What does an Optima have over its competition?

  7. Well, it has more power, efficiency, more standard technology, more upscale options, better drivability, and lower price than most or all of it’s competitors. That, and it got 5 star NHTSA rating under the new testing program, and won a top safety pick. It is the official vehicle of the NBA. Personally, I have 4 Kia vehicles, and have never regretted buying one for a second. The new Optima is a GREAT vehicle! The best way to gauge it is to take one for a test drive. See how YOU like it. And, if you test drive by the end of this month, Kia will send you a $25 gift card.

  8. To add to the good news consumer reports has made the 2011 Sorento best family SUV

  9. I am going to research the new 2012 Kia Rio to the hilt-that car rings of truth to me.

  10. OPtima sales haven’t taken off in the United States. It is the best overall car in the world and yet it is selling at less than a 3rd than the Camry and the Hyundai Sonata.
