Kia Ray engine specs released

Kia Motors Korea drops new image and more information about Ray’s engine / gearbox options…

Kia has finally released some official details about the all-new Ray city car, which made its official “on-line” premiere last week with the release of first official images. Set to go on sale next week, the 2013 Ray will be marketed exclusively in South Korea where it will be available with Kia’s new 1.0L Kappa engine.

Initially, the Ray will only be available with the 1.0L three-cylinder gasoline engine, while later, the vehicle will also get a full-electric powertrain. We have no information about the full-electric model at this point, but we do know that the gasoline-powered Kia Ray will generate 78 horsepower and 9.6 kilogram-meters of torque. Mated to the fuel-sipping 3-cylinder engine will be the 4-speed automatic transmission.

With an overall length of 3.595 mm, an overall width of 1.595 mm and overall height of 1.700 mm, the Ray will offer plenty of room inside the cabin and seating for four adults. For ease of entry, the new Kia city-car features a rear sliding door on the passenger side and a conventional rear door on the driver’s side.

The 2013 Ray will be equipped with latest safety features such as 6-airbags, ABS and vehicle dynamic control-VDC system and will also host a plethora of luxury features including heated steering wheel and seats, dual zone air condition, smart key, push button start and super vision cluster among others…

  1. I see a multi-functional vehicle here. “Car of the stars.” When it’s not being used as an enclosed golf cart at the country club, it’s being driven down long driveways in Beverly Hills to haul trash to the curb. There is a point where “small” becomes too small. I think the Ray may very well prove my theory correct.

  2. For the North American Market, the “A” Segment Kia Picanto which I doubt that the U.S. or Canada will ever see, is the smallest vehicle that makes any practical sense. Unless you want to buy a novelty vehicle like the “Smart Car”, Kia should IMO, concentrate on the Picanto and leave the rest of this nonsense alone. It might sell well in China, India, or perhaps even in Haiti which has no roads to drive it on, but in a developed industrialized County, it`s a bust. Maybe after Newt Gingrich becomes President, repeals all Child Labor Laws, legalizes the “Lords and Manors concept, while the rest of the 99%ers become working Surfs and tenant farmers, and owe their “soul” to the Company Store, it might make more sense even over here in America. Thanks Tea Party. Canada will have to tighten up its Boarders to keep Americans from attempting to immigrate illegally over the Border to Canada in order to find some sanity. If you want to call (that) “Socialism”, then bring it on! Funny, Marco Rubio and the wacked out Conservative Right always scream about America`s Exceptionalism, guess we got proof of that a few days ago when the students at U.C. at Davis were sprayed repeatedly with Pepper Spray by Nazi Police, while they sat down (peacefully) in a non-violent Civil Protest and were assaulted. The only thing missing were the Riot Batons and Gun Fire. “God Bless America, Home of the Free”?
