Kia Announces November 2012 Sales Record

Kia’s US-market sales surpass 500,000 mark for the very-first time in company history!

Kia Motors America today announced a record November 2012 sales of 41,055 vehicles. The fastest growing carmaker on the planet company saw its sales increase more than 10 percen over the same month a year ago.

Kia sales by model

Leading Kia sales last month was the 2013 Optima sedan which has experienced explosive growth in sales figures this year thanks to its impressive styling and fun-to-drive character. Kia Optima sales totaled 12,715 units in November.

Kia Sorento and Soul crossover vehicle also performed exceedingly well last month. Monthly sales of the 2013 Sorento CUV increased by 12 percent versus the same period last year, while Soul sales increased by 6 percent over November 2011.

Kia Optima mid-size sedan and Sorento crossover sales represented more than 40 percent of the carmaker’s November sales volume, reported Kia.

The soon-to-be replaced Forte compact car sold 4,266. The sub-compact Rio posted solid gain as well with sales reaching 2,494 units.

Kia Sedona MPV and Sportage crossover vehicles experienced a slight drop in sales compared to a year ago. Kia Sedona MPV sales decreased 17 percent while Sportage sales fell around 40%.

Age could be the main reason for falling Sedona MPV sales, while continuous strong consumer demand worldwide are probably affecting Sportage sales in the USA. What do you think? Share your thoughts with us!

P.S. For the year, Kia Motors America has sold 518,421 new vehicles in the USA, a 17,3 percent increase over the same period last year when 442,102 vehicles were sold.

  1. for November, Kia Canada, experience a 17.8% increase over November 2011. The top three selling models – Rio, Rondo and Sorento. This is now 47 months of consecutive growth.

  2. It’s quite apparent that the fuel economy fiasco completely devastated sales numbers. NOT.

  3. According to my dealer, the biggest issue with sales is inventory and getting cars on the lot. Last week they were at a near-record low of 26. Usually, they have 80-140 cars on the lot.

  4. Actually yes, I have seen an Optima Hybrid on the road. It’s quite a funny story, too. I recently left a job working for my cousin in a little town called Durand, MI. Every day, on my way to work, I would see a platinum graphite color Optima Hybrid going the opposite way on Interstate 69! The funny part is, no matter what time I went into work (as early as 10am, as late as 3pm)I saw this Optima Hybrid in the SAME 5 mile stretch of road EVERY DAY! It was completely strange! lol

  5. Its the total package. Perception often translates to reality. Korean cars so not have a place on US roads. Branding problems to actual driving mechanics and epa claims are going to hurt the Koreans for.decades on.the blame really places itslef on incompetant ownership by the chung family.

Names have meaning to people. Strange names will not connect and arouse the.central nervous system within the cortex.
Hyundai need to work on naming strategies
, meaningful logos, and effort on building trust with consumers. That trust comes from good dealerships, solidly built cars, and years if mindshare.

As I repeat the competition is not going to sit still, The leadership of the HKAG need to project their plans 20 years down the line. I am afraid that mistakes abd repeated mistakes continue to haunt this company. The leaderahip has completely mismanaged this company imo

  6. another plant will help for sure, i agree with you posters. but automobile fundamentals must remain strong. and Hyundai and Kia, to an extent, do not have automobile fundamentals down. Toyota always takes being humble to and extreme degree. they do not try to be pretentious or braggadocio about their accomplishments. That company, though they do shamelessly copy, do have some
pillars of philosophy that Hyundai should look at.

For example, most people can’t even pronounce Hyundai correctly. The name is so darn foreign it’s hard for people to accept the name, let alone the car. Spelling the name H-U-N-D-A-Y would be a better alternative. Not a great name but it is acceptable and linguistically easy to pronounce and comprehend. Logo change to something people can relate to and respect would be a huge step forward.

SPonsorship opportunities to endorse Manchester United, Barcelona FC, NE Patriots, Lionel Messi, Robert Downey Jr, Using youtube stars like Freddiediew or PSY, or Justin Bieber.. You guys missed the boat again on marketing 101 principles.

people love to emulate the best or the most popular. Attaching your name to
greatness automatically elicits acceptance of the brand as elite or cool.
the name of the brand adopts the personality of the famous celebrity.

For example, Attaching the SAMSUNG name to Chelsea has done wonders for that brand in the UK. Ever since that frenzied and epic Champions league victory, people go crazy for Chelsea. Guess who is on the front end of that jersey? it’s SAMSUNG. When people think of Chelsea, they think of
epic and utter madness for the underdog team that upset goliath in Barcelona. Samsung has ridden on the piggy backs of that momentum and people changed the way they think of Samsung.. Since Samsung was with Chelsea for many years.

  7. sales for models in Canada for November:

    Rio – 1150 (640)
    Rondo – 942 (316)
    Sorento – 924 (1240)
    Optima – 811 (282)
    Forte – 769 (827)
    Sportage – 607 (623)
    Soul – 438 (766)
    Sedona – 92 (59)

  8. wow canada sales so low, i wonder where kia rank in overall sales compared to others. not many cars sold in canada?

anyway, i havebeen saying this over 2 years , they need another plant, looks like they gonna sell over 700k cars this year, with another plant that adds 300k cars. they need that extra plant for forte, rio/soul, and sportage/rucson. current 2 are running over time and u can’t keep up by doing that, importing more wont work, u need 3rd plant. china has 3 and selling just fine. why not in usa? build one more asap. i know they want quality over qunatity but they’re missing out. this is getting ridiculous. with new forte comign in u should have built one 2 years ago and have it go production early next year. stupid. never hold anything back, u miss out and u lose
