Kia launches Mohave SUV in Korea

21

Kia Motors Corp. has finally launched it’s much anticipated large SUV!

The vehicle, which took 29 months to develop and costed Kia $245 million, is based on the Mesa concept car which was revealed in 2005.

In a similar move to Hyundai Motor Co.’s challenging foreign auto brands with the sports sedan Genesis, Kia Motors will also be pitting the Mohave against foreign carmakers’ SUVs, including the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ford Explorer.

For this, Kia Motors has taken pains to ensure that the Mohave can match up to its supposed competitors. The car is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission produced by the German parts maker ZF Friedrichshafen AG.

The Mohave also comes with a 3-liter, 6-valce diesel engine in it’s home market, which puts out 250 brake horsepower and has a fuel economy of 11.1 kilometers per liter of fuel.

The car also comes with a host of safety features, including curtain and side airbags that are deployed when sensors detect that the vehicle is about to roll over.

According to the company, 75 percent of the car’s frame has been constructed with high-strength steel for increased integrity of the cabin, and is equipped with an array of electronic systems to help prevent accidents.

Aside from using the latest technology in building this car, Kia Motors has opted for the badge used for the company’s large sedan Opirus to set the Mohave apart from other vehicles.

The company has set an annual sales target of 20,000 units for the local market and 60,000 units for exports from 2009. For this year, the company aims to sell 18,000 units locally, and export 30,000 units.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I am Mustafa Kemal ozmenekse, I am writing in regards to the 2 x KIA PICANTO 2008 ( see details below ) I purchased from OZOK LTD in northern cyprus on 18th july 2008, however, after only 4 months, the radiator broke down for no reason.
We immediately took it back to our dealer ozok ltd, and they advised this was a manufacturers fault and has damaged the hole engine & would order a new engine from your head office in korea. They also promised we would have the car back in max 1 1/2 months.
The car in question broke down on 24/12/2008 in other words it has been nearly 4 months since this incident and we still have not had the car fixed and returned.
as you can imagine this has a major effect on my day to day life and has been extremely frustrating for me and my family.
Althought i have been constant contact with our dealer, i am absolutely appoled at the service i am receiving, the dealer is continnually giving inaccurate information and are hardly following through what we are beeing told. in fact, they are now avoiding my calls completely. by doing this they are making a very bad name as a kia dealer at cyprus. also i was unsine prior to buying this make/model however our dealer convinced us of all its qualities, i am now certain that i made a huge mistake as no brand new car should break down after 4 months & in such an unfortunate situation, should at least much beter service.

I WANT TO RETURN BOTH CARS & RECEIVE A FULL REFUND, AS THIS HAS COUSED MORE HEADACKE THAN ITS WORTH….

we have two sorentos 2009 and in both drivers side seats have failed. kia saskatoon will not honour our warranty and can not find any thing wrong with a two inche gap that grew from a snug fit between the back rest and seat? they are blind and stupid as we will never again buy a kia vehicle that will not give warranty ! this is the beginning as failur to provide warranty will result in lost sales down the road!

  18. Patrick Arkinstall says:

We have a Kia Rondo 7 seater as we have 6 in the family. which was involved in an accident. the repairer has been unable to complete repairs on the car for some 4 months. this is due to “NO PARTS” been availabe in Australia or simply not been made !!!
    After I have tired many many times to call KIA Australia head office requesting some information regarding this and to date;
    I have been ignored
I have been told “The Manager” is sick today.
I have been told “The Manager” will call you back.
I have been told “The Manager” is in a meeting and will call you back today.
or simply treated like a fool.
SHAME ON YOU KIA – it is not accectable that you sell your vehicles with no support or no spare parts to sevice these vehicles in place.
4 months without a family car has been hell.

  19. Greg says:

That is not Kia’s fault. It is the dealership’s fault 100%. Speak with your local law enforcement, and get something done about an unreputable dealer.
