Kia Motors; Korean auto sales jump in August!

Kia Motors and Ssangyong Motor performed well in sales in August.

According to separate announcements by the automakers Monday, Kia Motors car sales soared 73.8 percent year on year to 95,956 _ 23,006 at home and 72,950 abroad.

Hyundai Motor, the country’s largest automaker and Kia affiliate, said that it sold 213,159 vehicles last month, up 6.8 percent from a year earlier. Sales at home inched down 0.6 percent to 50,995, while exports rose 9.3 percent to 162,164.

GM Daewoo Auto & Technology, the third-largest automaker, said in its regulatory filing that its sales rose 16.4 percent from a year ago, driven by higher overseas demand. It sold 60,781 including 51,656 exported to other countries.

Renault Samsung Motor also saw an increase of 9.3 percent in sales last month with 14,707 _ domestic sales fell one percent to 10,021, while exports grew 40.7 percent to 4,686.

Ssangyong Motor, the country’s smallest automaker, also said that its sales more than tripled in August. It sold a total of 11,421, including exports of 6,120, up 318.2 percent from a year earlier. [Source: Koreatimes]
