New Kia Commercials to Showcase Optima Sedan and UVO

The 2012-13 NBA season is under way, which means that basketball superstar Blake Griffin is back as the official Kia spokesman. Griffin will appear in a number of humorous TV spots that will highlight the top-selling Kia Optima, as well as the UVO voice-activated infotainment system.

The five 30-second spots will feature Blake giving suggestions to his younger self as he travels through time in his futuristic Optima. The Blake Griffin spots have always been popular thanks to his dead pan delivery and comedic timing, both of which are very apparent in the first 2 spots. In one, Blake tells a younger version if himself to put down the football and start practicing free throws instead.

The first two commercials, titles “Free Throw” (circa 1995) and “Football” (circa 1997) will make their TV debut when the NBA season tips off, with the three remaining spots scheduled to show up at different points during the NBA calendar. They can also be seen on all of Kia’s social media platforms, as well as on the official Kia.com website.

Michael Sprague, executive vice president of marketing & communications, KMA spoke of how the partnership with Blake Griffin began after the superstar won the 2011 NBA slam dunk contest by dunking over a Kia Optima. He went on to say that Blake’s comedic personality has helped raise the awareness of the Kia brand, thanks to him being one of the most popular and recognizable sports personalities in the world.

Sprague feels that the pairing of Blake Griffin and the Optima is a perfect match, as they both are thought of as having a youthful style and being performance driven. He went on to talk about how the UVO infotainment system would add the newest technology to the Kia, which explains why it is very much the focus of the new Blake Griffin ads.

For the new commercial, Kia has gone returned the David&Goliath advertising agency. They have been responsible for most of Kia’s most popular ads. Director Paul Hunter was chosen to direct the Blake Griffin spots. Hunter has previously won awards for ads that he created for Nike and Burger King.   1. I tried UVO the other day. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get it to transport me back in time.

  2. What does mileage matter when the warranty is a scam.

    Just got off the phone with Kia Eastern Region. I’ve got an important warning and gotcha from Kia. Kia will not honor the 10/100 powertrain warranty unless you can prove that you have maintained the car under schedule 2 – Sever Maintenance. They will tell you this due to at least 2 of the items they list.

    – Driving in areas where salt or other corrosive materials are being used.
    – Driving for prolonged period in cold temperatures and/or extreme-ly humid climates.

    Good luck finding somewhere in the continental United States where they can’t say either. Now the dealer service manager already told me that the salt one doesn’t apply because it’s internal transmission damage. The word prolonged is defined as, “to lengthen in time”.
