5 stars for Kia cee’d’s safety, crash test by EuroNCAP

New Kia cee’d hatchback gets a 5-star safety rating at most recent EuroNCAP crash tests!

Safety has always been an important part of the Kia brand, so it shouldn’t really come as a great surprise to hear that the Kia cee’d has just been awarded a 5-star safety rating by Europe’s leading road safety organization, EuroNCAP.

The all-new Kia cee’d 5-door posted some impressive scores in a number of different safety categories, including 89% for Adult Occupant Protection, 88% for Child Occupant Protection, and 86% for Safety Assist Equipment. Perhaps most impressively, the cee’d earned maximum points in the Child Occupant Safety category.

The addition of electronic stability control across the entire lineup of cee’d vehicles in Europe also caught the eye of the EuroNCAP testers, especially since it was delivered ahead of the compulsory testing schedule.

Benny Oeyen, Vice President Marketing and Product Planning, Kia Motors Europe explained how difficult it is to achieve a 5-star EuroNCAP rating, especially since the testing criteria has been made tougher. He went on to say the new standards meant that Kia really had to make a serious commitment to vehicle safety in order to maintain the high rating for the cee’d which was actually the first Kia car to achieve that 5-start status.

Oeyen went on to say that it was incredibly important to Kia engineers to be able to deliver a vehicle that not only met the high expectations in regards safety rating, but which could do so whilst still delivering sophistication, refinement, and the best technology available.

There is an impressive list of standard safety features available on the European cee’d, which includes six airbags, front and rear seatbelt reminders, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Assist Control -HAC to prevent roll-back, VSM -Vehicle Stability Management and Emergency Stop Signal which flashes the brake lights when the driver is coming to an emergency stop.

The all-new Kia cee’d joins an illustrious list of Kia vehicles that have achieved a 5-star rating from EuroNCAP. Those vehicles are the all-new Kia Rio, Venga MPV, Soul crossover vehicle, Sportage CUV and Sorento 2013 Model Year.

  1. It’s great to see a Kia achieving so good results, hoever, in the “Pole Impact Test”, results have been quite weak, which shows that Kia still has to improve a lot.
