Kia Canada sales rises 61 percent in December

Kia’s sales in Canada rises 61 percent to record high!

Kia achieved phenomenal sales result in Canada during the last month of 2009. With sales increasing amazing 61 percent over the last year’s figures, Kia recorded its best ever sales month since it entered the Canadian auto market ten years ago.

According to the sales report, Kia sold  2.645 new cars and SUVs in December 2009, while at the same time it also managed to increase its new car market share to 2.4 percent from 1.7 percent in December 2008.

Last month also marked Kia’s 12th month of record breaking sales increases for 2009. With this accomplishment, Kia Canada has surpassed all previous year-to-date sales results, reaching 46.118 units in 2009 with sales increasing 22 percent over figures from 2008. The company also increased its year-to-date market share from 2.3 percent in 2008 to 3.2 percent in 2009.

New models, particularly Soul crossover and Forte compact sedan have fueled December sales, as well as sales over the past ten months. Kia Soul, which has entered Canadian market attracted 8.500 consumers, while both Forte and Forte Koup recorded 5.700 sales in less than seven months on market.

Other Kia models also performed well over the last twelve months. Surprisingly, Kia Rio achieved its best ever year in Canada, with sales crossing the 10.000 units barrier! According to Kia Canada, Rio was the only car model in the subcompact segment that experienced the growth in 2009.

“We are pleased with our sales performance achieved during the last 12 months! We have worked very hard to transform customer perceptions of the brandwith the result that Kia is now being recognized for its design excellence and quality” said Maria Soklis, Vice-President and COO of Kia Canada.

“We are now hoping to build on this strong momentum with the all-new Sorento crossover, scheduled for an official launch in January, which is poised to compete with all the best SUVs and crossover vehicles in the same segment” added Maria.

  1. way to go KIA Canada. Got word from my dealer that they expect the 2011 Sorento to start arriving by the end of January, however, he still has no word on the MSRP.

  2. Canadians are a little smarter than Americans with these cars, noever Americans (escilly) Dodge and Chrysler owners are jumping ship to KIA and Hyundai.

  3. We’re totally stoked about our numbers over the last year at our store and across Canada. We’ve ordered twenty five 2011 Sorento’s – and still no clue as to MSRP’s. Hope Kia Canada lives up to the hype and keeps up the supply to meet anticipated demand.

  4. Angel, you seem to be a dealer; what part of the country are you in? I’m very, VERY eager to get a Sorento on the road for a test, to compare to the new Santa Fe. I actually figured the Sorento wouldn’t be in stores until about March, since they kept talking about Jan. and I’d always expect delays. Also am eager for the ’11 Sonata and ’10 Tuscon (a little surprised MSRP can hit $33K though!).

  5. We’ve ordered at least 25 of the Sorento too. Beautiful! The new Sportage looks good too – quality and looks. Hyundai/Kia is already the 5th largest automaker by sales in Canada already. In 2009 we outsold Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Acura, Lexus, Suzuki, Audi, Infiniti, Volvo, Mini, Smart, Land Rover, Jaguar and Smart!
