Kia Announces Record January Sales

Kia’s 2014 sales got off to a good start as the carmaker announces record January sales of 37,011 units.

Kia Motors America sales were lead by the US-manufactured Optima mid-size sedan and a completely redesigned Soul crossover vehicle. The Optima and Soul sales totaled 9,979 and 8,092 units, respectively.

Kia Optima has experienced a slight drop in sales when compared to the same month a year ago, while Soul managed to increase its sales by almost 1,000 units.

The Sorento mid-size crossover vehicle was another strong performer for the brand last month with sale totaling 7,098 units.

All other Kia models, including the Rio, Sportage, Forte and Sedona have managed to increase their sales from a year ago.

The Cadenza premium sedan, which has been released in the USA in the second half of 2013, continues to perform pretty well.

The model’s sales average at around 900+ units, which is not a big sales number, but still higher than its Hyundai sibling (the Azera) with monthly sales figures averaging 700+ units.

The Forte family, consisting of a 5-door hatchback, 4-door sedan and 2-door Koup, remains a mystery with sales hardly ever crossing the 5,000 units sales mark.

It is expected that the Forte sales would improve in 2014 as the carmaker aims to increase the model’s production volume. The same goes for the Sportage CUV which has also experienced slower sales in 2013 due to the low number of vehicles being shipped to the local Kia dealers.

New Model Arrivals: Soul EV, K900 Luxury Sedan, Sedona MPV

Kia has delivered 7 significantly improved vehicles in 2013, but that doesn’t mean the brand would stop its aggressive product onslaught.

The automaker’s new product cadence will continue this year with the scheduled arrival of the 2015 K900 luxury sedan, Soul EV and all-new Sedona minivan.

The K900 is scheduled to hit the dealers already in spring, while Soul EV and next-generation Sedona MPV are expected to reach the local U.S. stores during the second half of the year.

  1. Not bad since USA had a very harsh winter. All 50 states were below freezing. Some states had -30 below not counting the wind chill.

  2. it is absolutely ridiculous that all new forte with all 3 linesups can’t even sell more than 5k. it should be at least 15k if not 20k a month. is kia *** why do u even redesign a car then? forte needs to be built in usa along with soul. that means another factory. they need a change over at the top like hyuindai.

  3. ha ha ha……………in Australia our winter is like 15c on worst day. sometimes night is 1c.
