Kia Trademarks K900x Name! AWD Model On The Way?
Kia has filed a trademark that suggests the K900 flagship sedan may be about to adopt an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
The trademark was filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, with the terms K100x to K900x, inclusive, used.
The folks at AutoPacific see this as a clear indication that AWD is on the way for the Kia K900.
There are no models in the Kia lineup with the K100 to K800 name, but the K900 has been around since 2014.
At this point, the Sportage and Sorento crossovers are the only Kia models with AWD, but it would be nice to see Kia offering a few more models with the all-wheel-drive in their lineup!
K900x Getting AWD? Is That Possible?
The addition of AWD would not be a major surprise, as the K900 and the Hyundai Equus have always been somewhat tied at the hip.
A new Equus is coming soon, and is expected to be offered with AWD.
It is also believed that the K900x would use the same H-TRAC system as found in the 2015 Hyundai Genesis.
Applying for trademarks in the 100x to 800x range may suggest that Kia will move away from traditional nameplates in favor of a numerical system, although this will likely be reserved for their premium models.
The original filing with the aforementioned names was made back in August 2013, with the latest being an extension that indicates Kia still plans on using those names at a later date.
Officials from Kia Motors America declined to comment or admit knowledge of any trademark filings.
