Kia’s global sales jump 39 percent in February 2010

Written by himi on Thursday, March 11th, 2010 in Kia sales.

Kia Motors sold 143.267 vehicles in February 2010. All major sales regions post double-digit year-on-year sales increase.

In February, Kia saw its sales rise by 39.5 percent to 143.267 units, while cumulative sales from the first two months of 2010 increased by 50.6 percent to 293.659 units.

Kia’s sales increase in February was a result of the company’s double- digit year-on-year sales growth in all major sales regions. China experienced the highest gain 128.6 percent among all markets (25.435 units sold).

Kia managed to increase its sales by 52.7 percent in General markets (32.578 units) and 34.4 percent in Europe (24.992 units sold). Sales have also increased by 11.4 percent in North American market (27.053 units), as well as in its home Korean market, where the automaker sold 33.209 (+ 21.6%) new vehicles.

The C-segment Cerato, known also as Forte in the US market, remains the best-selling vehicle in Kia’s lineup. With 28.191 units sold the Cerato leads B-segment Rio and Sportage SUV in second and third spot with 14.307 and 13.862 units sold, respectively.

Kia Picanto and cee’d are no longer members of the top five best-selling Kia models. They were replaced by the all-new Sorento and Soul crossovers. Sorentos are selling like hot cakes, particularly in the US market where the model has recorded its highest monthly sales for the second straight month. Kia sold 11.981 units of new Sorento and 8.934 Souls in overseas markets.

According to Hyoung-Keun Lee, President of Kia Motors Corporation, the company is extremely pleased with the double-digit sales growth achieved in all major sales regions last month. In addition, Kia is also happy to see that demand for its all-new Sorento crossover exceeded initial sales expectations.

Kia February US sales rise 9 percent to 24.052 units

Written by himi on Thursday, March 4th, 2010 in Kia sales.

Kia sales improved 9 percent last month according to the company’s official sales release. With sales rising to 24.052, the Korean second largest automaker recorded its best February sales ever.

Sales last month were led by new Sorento and Soul crossovers. The US-produced Sorento posted sales of 8.207 units, which represnets an 11 percent increase over January 2010. During the first two months of fiscal year, Kia already sold 15.605 units of new Sorento in the US market.

Monthly sales numbers show us that the 2011 Kia Sorento is one of the hottest crossover vehicles on the market at the moment. In February, the model outsold Toyota RAV-4 to become the second best-selling vehicle in the segment. It topped the Chevrolet Equinox with 8.061 units sold and came very close to the segment-leader, the Ford Edge, with 8.694 units sold.

“In addition to being our best-selling vehicle for the second month in a row, the all-new Sorento also is bringing new, more affluent customers into our showrooms and indicates the growing interest in the Kia brand,” said B.M. Ahn, group president and CEO of KMA and Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia.

“Having recently celebrated the grand opening of Kia’s first U.S.-based manufacturing plant in West Point, Georgia, Sorento’’s strong performance validates the investments Kia has made in the U.S. market as more and more consumers are recognizing our commitment to quality, design, safety and technology.”

February also marks exactly one year since Kia Motors America put its funky Soul crossover on the market. Its sales have leaped from just 34 units in February last year to impressive 3.600 units sold in February 2010.

Other Kia cars that also performed well last month were Forte compact sedan (and two-door Koup) and soon-to-be-replaced Kia Optima sedan with 4.300 and 2.471 units sold, respectively. Kia also sold 1.949 units of Rio and 1.088 units of Sportage SUV. Other models such as Borrego, Sedona and Rondo achieved monthly sales below 1.000 units.

2011 Kia Sorento sales revs up in January

Written by himi on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010 in Kia sales.

Kia Motors America reports January 2010 sales. The 2011 Sorento crossover sales rev up!

Kia Motors America announced its overall sales for the past month totaled 22.123 units. This represents a 0.1 percent increase over January of last year.

Kia’s January sales were lead by new Sorento crossover, which has just recently been put on sale. It hit the Kia dealerships on January 4th and already in its first full sales month achieved its best-ever sales result in the US market. With sales of 7.398 units, the Sorento was also the automaker’s best-selling vehicle in January.

“The all-new Sorento’s tremendous early performance is a clear indication that its combination of modern design, state-of-the-art technology and available resonates with US consumers,” told B.M. Ahn, president and CEO of Kia Motors America and Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia.

Forte sedan (together with Forte Koup) also performed pretty good last month. In January, Kia dealers sold 3.732 units, which was enough to take the second spot among the top five best-selling Kia vehicles in the US. The Forte was closely followed by Optima sedan, Rio sub-compact car and Soul crossover with 3.162, 2.398 and 2.145 units sold, respectively.

New Sorento may be blowing up, but Sportage sales went down 81 percent last month. Sportage is an ageing model, still a great value, but it hardly competes with numerous hot-looking crossover vehicles from other automakers. Sales are not expected to improve until the next-generation model hits the dealers later in the year. You can see some new Sportage images at our previous post.

Other models that did even worse were Rondo and Sedona with 356 and 928 units respectively, while sales of discontinued Spectra and Amanti plummeted to zero.

Kia UK posts record breaking sales figures

Written by himi on Friday, January 8th, 2010 in Kia sales.

With sales of 50.636 vehicles in 2009 Kia Motors UK, has smashed records for the brand both in Britain and across Europe.

This is the first time any Kia subsidiary has broken the 50,000 sales mark in any European country and in the UK it represents a massive boost for the brand’s recognition and popularity amongst new car buyers.

Kia’s overall market share was 2.5 per cent including scrappage. The non-scrappage market share was 2.2 per cent. The brand’s previous best sales performance was in 2004 when 33,149 vehicles were sold and in 2008 Kia sold 31,323 units and recorded a best-ever retail market share of 1.8 per cent.

Michael Cole, Managing Director said: “2009 has been a phenomenal year for Kia and we are extremely proud to be the first market in Europe to break such an important psychological barrier.

“Undoubtedly we have benefited from the Government’s scrappage scheme but the retail non-scrappage performance was up - and that comes on top of an improved performance in 2008 when Kia was one of very few brands to end a year that saw the start of the recession in positive territory.

“The scrappage scheme has helped our dealers and their employees to keep going in the face of considerable difficulties but no-one should underestimate the appeal of our high quality, good-value range of cars for retail customers. Our increased retail share of 3.7 per cent shows that the Kia brand has attracted more private buyers than ever before,” he added.

Kia’s best selling vehicle was Picanto with 16,803 customers choosing the brand’s cheeky city car. The European designed and built cee’d was the marque’s next best seller, hitting a total of 12,900 in 2009. The Soul - launched in March 2009 - reached expectations with 2,938 sold and the revised and now European-built Sportage recording 3,939 sales.

Cole added: “2010 will clearly be more difficult in overall terms because of the end of the scrappage scheme, but in response to that Kia has announced that all its products sold in Europe will now be covered by the seven year warranty previously only applied to cee’d and Sportage.

“Plus in February we launch our stylish yet capacious and flexible Venga and an all-new replacement for the ever-popular Sorento. So whilst we do expect the overall market to fall back in 2010 we are confident of holding our improved market share and we shall be expecting year-end sales in excess of 40,000. Based on the interest and demand from retail customers this year I believe that figure might be conservative,” he concluded. [Source: Kia UK]

Kia Motors America today reported its November 2009 sales were up 18.3 percent over a year earlier to 17.955 vehicles.

Kia’s all-new, four-door compact sedan, the Forte, and its two-door sibling model once again performed extremely well, and posted one of their best sales months ever with 4.044 units sold. The Soul, Kia’s first compact crossover vehicle also posted strong November 2009 result with 2.505 units sold last month. The Soul was Kia’s third best-selling model behind the sub-compact Rio, which took the second spot with 3.496 units sold.

Kia Soul crossover once again out-sold its main rival, the Cube from Nissan. A mere 1.500 units of Cube were sold in November, while Kia sold 2.505 Souls. In the first 11 months, Nissan sold 18.414 Cubes to US consumers, while at the same period of time, 28.805 Souls found their new homes.

With 1.895 units sold, the Sedona minivan lead Sorento and Optima sedan closely tied at fifth and sixth spot with 1.657 and 1.644 units sold, respectively.

We are thrilled with Kia’s overall November 2009 sales performance, but more so we are happy to see the up-to-date sales numbers that reveal Kia sold 279.015 new vehicles in the United States so far, this year. Compared to the first 11 months from a year ago, Kia managed to increase its sales volume by 8 percent, while at the same time it also gained larger U.S. market share.

Kia’s lineup of attractively designed new models (Soul, Forte Koup, Forte sedan) accounted for 36 percent of the monthly sales volume in November, while overall, small car sales delivered more than 55 percent of the sales volume last month, according to Kia.

With a wide range of distinctively styled compact cars and the all-new Sorento crossover and up-coming Cadenza premium sedan just around the corner, we are pretty confident that Kia will continue to post even stronger sales results in the following months.

Kia’s US sales soar 45 percent in October

Written by himi on Thursday, November 5th, 2009 in Kia sales, General News.

Kia sales in the US market soar 45 percent compared to the same month last year…

October 2009 car sales statistics revealed that Korean car brands, including Kia and Hyundai, increased their new sales by nearly 50 percent compared to the same month last year. Hyundai announced its sales jumped 49 percent, while Kia reported it has experienced a 47 percent increase in October 2009.

Sales of both Korean carmakers have been boosted by rising demand for smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles, newly launched models and aggressive marketing campaigns. Combined sales of the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group in the US market last month rose to 53.495 units and represents a 47 percent increase over the last year’s sales figures.

According to Kia Motors America, the company sold 22.490 units, while year-to-date sales totaled 261.060 units. As evident from the sales chart published below, Kia’s October sales got a boost from new launches, but older models, such as Optima sedan and sub-compact Rio, also performed very well last month.

The best selling Kia vehicle in the US in October was, once again, Forte compact sedan, which has just recently been accompanied with a sportier two-door Forte Koup model. Combined, Kia sold 4.984 Forte & Forte Koups last month.

Forte was followed by B-segment Rio and Borrego SUV with 4.005 and 3.919 units sold, respectively. October has been Borrego’s best sales month this year and probably its best month ever since its introduction two years ago! To date, Kia sold 8.685 units of Borrego in the US market.

Initial high demand for the Soul has cooled down a bit. Sales have fallen from record-high 5.751 units in August to an average of 2.000+ units in the last two months. October also marks the very first month when Nissan Cube outsold the Soul. Nissan dealers sold 2.097 Cubes, while Kia sold 2.063 units of its funky crossover.

Kia Motors UK posts best September ever

Written by himi on Tuesday, October 6th, 2009 in Kia sales.

Kia UK announces best-ever sales month in September. UK becomes the biggest Kia market in Europe!

Kia Picanto was the runaway leader in terms of sales last month. With sales of 3.395 units, Kia’s city car accounted a whopping one third of all Kia vehicles sold in the UK in September.

Picanto’s sales have soared dramatically since UK’s government introduced the scrappage scheme, but the overall September performance and Kia’s year-to-date result can not be attributed to scrappage alone told Michael Cole, Managing Director at Kia Motors UK. Under the scrappage scheme, consumers in the UK can get a £2,000 discount on a new car, provided they scrap a car at least 10 years old.

According to the report, the second best-selling Kia vehicle in the UK last month was a B-segment Rio hatch with 2.066 units sold, while taking third spot, with sales of 1.592 units sold, was the European-built cee’d hatchback. Popular cee’d was followed by Sportage SUV in forth place, with 792 units sold.

The award-winning Kia Soul crossover, which sells like a hot cake in the North American market, has also recorded its highest sales in the UK market since its March launch. In September, Kia Soul attracted over 550 new customers!

With sales reaching record-high 9.772 units in September, Kia Motors UK has hit a new record for the brand in any European market. Reportedly, no other Kia distributor in Europe has ever sold so many new Kia cars in one month alone throughout the brand’s history.

kiapicantosales.jpg

The result gives Kia a 2.66% share in the UK market and a 3.73% market share of the retail market in September. With total sales for the year passing 34.700 the UK performance has overtaken Kia Motors Germany, traditionally the biggest Kia market in Europe.

Congrats to Kia UK team & keep up with the good work!

Kia sales soar 24 percent in September

Written by himi on Friday, October 2nd, 2009 in Kia sales.

Kia posts 24 percent higher September sales, while other automakers experience slump in sales.

As latest automotive sales reports reveal, the end of “cash for clunkers” program meant the end of strong sales for majority of automakers. New car sales have fallen sharply with GM, Chrysler, Toyota and Nissan reporting the largest drop in sales.

Out of 33 automotive brands, only nine of them posted higher sales compared to the same month last year. Among those nine brands were both Korean carmakers, Kia and Hyundai, with sales gains of 24 and 27 percent, respectively.

After record-high August sales, Kia enjoyed another “healthy” month with sales increasing 24 percent to 21.623 units. The best performing Kia vehicle in September was the mid-size Optima sedan with sales of 5.986 units.

The all-new Forte sedan (and Forte Koup), which has replaced Spectra sedan, has had the best sales month since it entered the US market earlier this year. Almost 4.500 units of new Forte left dealer’s showrooms in September.

The all-new Soul urban passenger vehicle continues to perform well. With 2.459 units sold, the Soul has been the fourth best selling car in Kia’s line-up, right behind Kia’s Rio with 2.811 units sold.

Kia’s sales in the first nine months of fiscal year totaled 238.570 units, representing a remarkable 4.6 percent increase over the same period last year.

“Consumer confidence in the Kia brand is on the rise, and on the heels of an all-time record sales month in August we continue our momentum by achieving the best sales quarter in company history,” said Alex Fedorak, director of public relations, KMA. “New designs, like the highly styled and personalized Soul, Forte compact sedan and Forte Koup, are appealing to a larger consumer audience while staying true to our brand’s core pillars of value, safety and fuel efficiency.” [Source: Kia Motors America]

Kia reported its global sales figures for passenger cars, recreational vehicles (RVs), and commercial vehicles for August 2009, recording a total of 139,656 units sold. This figure represents a year-on-year increase of 24.1%.

To date in 2009, Kia’s best selling model in overseas markets has been the C-segment Cerato (known as ‘Spectra’ or ‘Forte’ in some markets) with 180,184 units sold. Kia’s Sportage compact SUV and the B-segment Rio followed closely with 111,868 and 108,760 units sold, respectively. The C-segment cee’d takes fourth place with 80,705 units sold, while the Picanto completes the top five with 62,590 units sold.

By region, Kia posted year-on-year sales increases in China (21,770 units sold, a 104.9% year-on-year increase), North America (44,870 units sold, a 55.0% year-on-year increase) and Korea (25,184 units, an 8.1% year-on-year increase).

Cumulatively, through the first eight months of 2009, Kia’s global sales increased by 8.5% year-on-year and reached 1,032,572 units. The Chinese market experienced the highest gain with 141,513 units sold to date, representing a 39.4% increase. Korea, general markets, and North America showed cumulative year-on-year sales increases of 23.3% (252,519 units sold), 10.3% (185,223 units sold) and 4.9% (248,838 units sold), respectively.

In terms of vehicle category sold overseas, Kia’s recreational and passenger vehicles achieved year-on-year increases in August of 31.1% (39,183 units) and 30.2% (72,549 units), respectively.

Hyoung-Keun Lee, President of Kia Motors Corporation, said “We are very encouraged that in August we have already surpassed the million unit global sales mark, despite the various and difficult challenges facing the automotive industry. These results are promising and we look forward to carrying this momentum through to the final quarter of 2009.”

Kia automobiles are hot! Record high US sales…

Written by himi on Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 in Kia sales.

Record-high sales results prove that Kia automobiles are the hottest products on the North American car market at the moment!

Kia Motors America (KMA) today announced all-time record monthly sales of 40,198 in August, up 37 percent over July and 60.4 percent year over year from August 2008. Offering an array of standard technology features, the highly stylized and popular all-new 2010 Soul urban passenger vehicle and all-new 2010 Forte compact sedan helped attract buyers to the brand, as did an increase in foot traffic through dealerships nationwide due in part to the government-sponsored C.A.R.S. program. August sales were led by the Kia Sportage and Kia Optima, selling 7,558 and 7,461 units respectively.

“Our relative market share increase tied to the vehicles included in the C.A.R.S. program is among the top three brands in the industry,” said Tom Loveless, vice president of sales, Kia Motors America.

Kia Motors is in the midst of a dramatic, design-led transformation, which has been delivering dynamically styled vehicles in several important segments at exactly the right time. The all-new 2010 Forte and Forte Koup, which replaced the Spectra, Kia’s best-selling model, further reinforces the design revolution brought on by the all-new, award-winning 2010 Soul urban passenger vehicle.

The Soul began changing consumer perception of Kia as soon as it arrived in showrooms this spring, from a brand known for delivering safe and fuel efficient vehicles at a tremendous value to one now combining those attributes with modern technologies and eye-catching design. These new vehicles have attracted discerning and smart shoppers to Kia showrooms and have contributed to the brand’s continued upward momentum as the brand continues to gain market share in the U.S. The upcoming launch of the all-new 2011 Sorento CUV, the first vehicle to be built at the company’s first U.S.-based manufacturing facilities in West Point, Georgia, will further enhance the lineup.

“The C.A.R.S. program attracted new customers to Kia; those that didn’t necessarily want or need a new car, but were enticed by C.A.R.S. to buy a car that would last,” said Loveless. “These buyers, often with better credit, are a solid sign of a significant positive change in brand perception and a tribute to the entire Kia vehicle line.”[Source: Kia Motors America]

Written by himi on Monday, August 3rd, 2009 in Kia sales.

Kia Motors achieves record high sales in the States in July, while both, Kia Soul and Forte post very strong sales!

Kia Motors America reported earlier today that it has achieved record high sales in July, thanks to impressive sales of both new models, the 2010 Soul crossover and Forte compact sedan. Kia’s July 2009 sales rose up for a total of 29,345 units, while its year-to-date-sales now stands at impressive 176,749 units.

Kia Forte has hardly hit the dealers in the States and yet, it has already achieved an impressive sales result. In it’s first full month in American market, Forte sales totaled at 3,631 units, which is very encouraging for the coming months.

Kia Forte is a compact sedan that is going to replace Spectra sedan, Kia’s best selling model for years. Spectra has not been discontinued from Kia’s line-up just yet and it still performs pretty well. Despite it’s age, Spectra remains to be one of the hottest selling Kia vehicle in the States.

The best selling Kia last month was Sportage SUV with 7,266 units sold. It was closely followed by Spectra and Soul crossover with sales of 5,616 and 4,853 units respectively. Soul has once again proved to be an attractive buy as it’s sales increased more than 2,000 units from June.

In the first seven months of fiscal year, Kia sold 176,749 units in the States. In addition, Korean carmaker also has achieved record market share gain in 2009, rising nearly 50 percent to a 3.1 percent share! “Our brand messaging is resonating with consumers and is a true indicator of the company’s growth in the past year with nearly 29 percent of July sales from new Soul and Forte models,” said Tom Loveless, vice president of sales at Kia Motors America. “We are sustaining momentum for the fifth consecutive month this year, up 9.3 percent from June, and showroom traffic has more than doubled in the final week of July with the C.A.R.S. program in full swing.”
