Stunning Kia POP concept car set to make its official premiere at the forthcoming 2010 Paris Auto Show!

Kia Motors Corporation today released a set of images previewing the all-new POP concept car, which is scheduled to make its official debut at the upcoming Paris Auto Show.

With the new POP concept car, Kia continues its tradition of unveiling an eye-catching and environmental friendly concept vehicles at motor shows, which are all primarily used to showcase the automaker’s design and development capabilities.

According to Kia, the all-new POP concept car is a zero-emission electric vehicle, which features electric motor and next-generation lithium polymer battery.

As evident from the released pictures, the POP concept car offers seating for three, with two seats placed at front and additional one at rear. With only 3 meters in length, the POP concept vehicle is smaller than Kia Picanto, which is currently the smallest vehicle in the automaker’s model line-up. Its about the same size as Toyota iQ, which is already on sale in Europe.

The latest Kia concept is inspired by Kia Ray electric concept car, which has been unveiled earlier this year at New York Auto Show. It features LED lightning and large panoramic roof that reveals vehicle’s purple colored interior and chromed dashboard.

Kia announced it will take the wraps of its latest Pop concept car at the 2010 Paris Auto Show on September 30.  That’s when we expect to see more official shots and hear more details about the vehicle’s powertrain technologies and capabilities. Stay tuned!

Kia Soul crossover puzzle!

Written by himi on Friday, September 21st, 2007 in Concept Cars, Kia SOUL.

soul-blog.jpg

We are slowly puting together the pieces of Soul puzzle. Every once in a while, we get informations from people who know development secrets Kia is hiding from us.

It was reported before, that the mini crossover is going to be offered with the range of three different engine displacements. Depending on market, there will be 2.0 liter and 1.6 liter, 4 cylinder gasoline and diesel engines offered. While we still don’t know details on either powerplant, we found out what the actual crossover size is.

It will be the smallest crossover vehicle on the market. With the size of only 4,1 meter, this is barley any larger than Kia’s Rio hatchback.

The Soul’s rolling stock will be comprised of 15″, 16″ and 17″ wheels on all corners or top of the line 18″ inchers, making the vehicle stance more musclebound.

Exterior dimensions: Length: 4.105mm , width: 1.785mm , height: 1,610mm, weight: 1,210kg

Kia pursues unique, emotional design!

Written by himi on Thursday, September 13th, 2007 in Concept Cars.

Small cars with interesting designs such as the Volkswagen Beetle or the Audi TT may have a Korean rival in about a year as Kia Motors Corp. ambitiously brainstorms for creativity. A compact car with character or emotional design is one of the many projects Kia is currently working on, according to the company’s chief officer Peter Schreyer.

“When you buy a car, it’s more of an emotional decision — of course you consider the price and performance, but first you have to see the car and like it,” Schreyer said in an interview with The Korea Herald.

“It is true that Korea is a prestige-oriented market and people tend to think ‘the bigger a car, the better,’ but I think the younger generation, who are connected to the internet and global fashion, music or games, will have different expectations and we should deal with that.”

Schreyer, who left Volkswagen AG to join Kia a year ago, agreed with the reporter that the landscape of cars in Korea is very monochromatic.

“You see a lot of silver, white and dark grey cars on the roads, and I guess they all want to be on the safe side in terms of both colors and design,” he said. “This is largely because Korea has been a very closed market, almost like an island.”

Kia KEE Sports Coupe Concept!

Written by himi on Tuesday, September 11th, 2007 in Concept Cars.

Kia Kee Sports Coupe makes worldwide premiere today!

Many say that the world premiere of the all-new Kia Kee sports coupe concept at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in Germany this week is a landmark moment for Kia’s evolution into a major global automotive company.

The Kee concept vehicle is a 4,3 metre long 2-door coupe with svelte, newly proportioned lines resulting from a slightly lengthened greenhouse. It is a new interpretation of a 2+2 coupe with an imposing road presence that demonstrates an uncluttered, pure and timeless execution and represents a new design ethos for Kia.

The concept car features broad stance and a low profile, with three unique exterior elements – the strong and powerful frontal design with its distinctive headlamps and eye-catching LED cluster, a dynamic profile with striking greenhouse treatment and 20-inch diameter alloy wheels. Measuring 4,324 mm long, the Kia Kee is powered by a next generation 2-litre, V-6 gasoline engine producing 200 ps, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The new Kia Kee is a clear and emphatic statement that the future of the Kia brand is set to be one that will excite and surprise an entirely new audience of consumers,” commented Peter Schreyer, Chief Design Officer Kia Motors.

“In making this design departure for Kia it was essential to my thinking that we did not lose sight of the fact that the Kia brand must continue to appeal to customers in the mainstream. It would have been easy to present an extreme supercar at Frankfurt that would attract plenty of attention, but could have no place in Kia’s future. Our sports coupe concept is not simply a flight of fancy but represents an affordable dream for sports car lovers.” [Source: Kia]

Kia mulls alliance with Germany’s Karmann!

EX_CEE'D

Acording to Reuters, South Korea’s Kia Motors Corporation is considering working together with German automotive supplier Karmann on a convertible car, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported.

“We are talking with Karmann about a cooperation,” the paper quoted Kia design head Peter Schreyer as saying in a preview of it’s Tuesday edition.

Karmann is already working on the roof construction for the convertible, which would be based on the sports model of the Kia middle-class Cee’d car, the paper said.

Now this is the news Kia enthusiasts were waiting for! After seeing a beautifull Kia Ex_cee’d concept car last year, we were praying for it to come into production!

After a very positive public reception at 2006 Paris Auto Show, we published a report about Kia canceling Ex_cee’d developement because of the high developement costs! The report was confirmed at that time.

But now, more than eight months later, rumors are spreading that Kia officials finnally changed their minds and gave the Ex_cee’d a green light!

Kia Mojave pick-up truck!

Written by himi on Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 in Concept Cars.

As promised yesterday, I’m bringing you a story and more images about the beautiful Kia Mojave concept vehicle. This is Kia’s first ever pick up truck ever, but only in its concept form as for now.

2004 KIA MOJAVE

Kia Motors Corporation has rapidly expanded its product line-up in North America into several new segments, including the midsize SUV, large sedan and minivan categories, but at the Chicago International Auto Show in 2004 , the fastest-growing Korean car company held a world premier for something entirely different. A concept mid-size pick-up truck dubbed the KCV4 “Mojave.”

The first pick-up truck concept Kia has ever shown in the United States, the Mojave is specifically designed to meet the needs and tastes of North American consumers. However, due to the fact that KMC does not have a suitable manufacturing location to build a truck for North America, there are no production plans at this time.

“The idea behind the Mojave project was to take advantage of Kia’s research and development resources and create a concept vehicle that is closely aligned with Kia’s positioning in North America,” said Kia official.

“Despite the fact that we do not currently have a factory with the capacity, or the location, to manufacture this truck, the Mojave is an outstanding example of what Kia is capable of delivering, and will allow us to conduct consumer research at the Chicago International Auto Show to gauge consumers’ reactions.”

The Mojave was designed at the Kia/Hyundai Research & Design Center in NamYang, South Korea, under the direction of Lee Jae-Rim, Designer and Senior Research Engineer on the Advanced Design Team at Nam Yang.

kia_kcv4_mojave_9.jpg     kia_kcv4_mojave_1.jpg     kia_kcv4_mojave_11.jpg     kia_kcv4_mojave_13.jpg

“Our design objectives for the Mojave were unique in that we attempted to combine a forward-thinking cabin with an advanced, open and modern feel that would appeal to Generation Y consumers,” said Mr. Lee. “Alternately, the exterior design combines a more traditional exterior truck profile made up of simple, basic forms that clearly communicate the rugged capability of the vehicle.”

At 130 inches, the Mojave’s wheelbase is considerably longer than the Kia Sorento platform on which it is based. The concept truck boasts a 3.8-liter, DOHC 24-valve V6 putting out an estimated 280 horsepower, coupled with a 5-speed electronically-controlled automatic transmission.

The Mojave uses power-assisted rack and pinion steering that was engineered to be capable of working with a hydraulically-controlled rear steering system that would provide maximum maneuverability while parking (counter-steer), and additional stability during lane changes or in heavy cross winds on the highway (same-phase steer).

The final piece of the handling equation is an aggressive tire and wheel package that includes 20-inch sport tires on 20-inch machine-finished wheels.

The KCV IV was named “Mojave” for two reasons. Not only does the name represent the ruggedness and beauty of the spectacular American Southwest, it also represents the geographic location (Mojave Desert, near California City, CA) where Kia and Hyundai R & D built a 4,300-acre, $50-million proving ground facility where the next generation Kia vehicles for the North American market are proving their mettle before receiving the final approvals for production.

A new name in game!

Written by himi on Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 in Concept Cars.

mojave-name.jpg

We have already seen some spy shots and interior teaser pictures from Kia, so we can imagine how Kia’s first full size SUV will look like. But one thing we were missing and were not convinced about, is the name of it. Not anymore!

There has been a lot of guesswork done about the name in last few months. First, Kia released a concept car named Mesa at NAIAS last year, so everybody thought this is the name for production vehicle.Right after that we heard about Offenbach, which sounds very German by the way.

But at the end, Kiaworld blog found out, that the SUV name will probably be Mojave! On the 1st of August, Kia trademarked two names for U.S. market; Mojave and Mohave. Names were chosen for a SUV vehicle. So we can assume that at least in US market, Kia’s full size SUV is going to be named Mojave.

Mojave sounds familiar doesn’t it?! Well, everyone knows Mojave desert in USA that covers about 125,000 square kilometers of southern Nevada, western Arizona, southwestern Utah, and southeastern California. But do you know that Mojave is also a name for Kia’s pick-up truck concept car from 2004?

We will write a story about that later today, just to remember you how Kia’s cool concept car looked like!

Eco_Cee’d; fourth member of Cee’d family!

Written by himi on Thursday, August 23rd, 2007 in Concept Cars, R&D at Kia.

d6.jpg

Kia is joining European automakers that are going green at this year’s IAA Frankfurt Motor Show beeing held from September 11th. Several automakers such as Audi, Opel and Mercedes are going to show eco-friendly cars to the public and so will Kia!

Based on five-door hatchback, the new model will be named Eco_Cee’d. This will be the fourth model to join the family of five-door Cee’d, Cee’d SW and sporty three-door Pro_cee’d.

Right now there are not many known details, but we found out that Eco_Cee’d will not be a hybrid car. It will probably be a standard production model with lighter body parts and added green technology gadgets, such as STOP&GO system. Stop&go system shuts down car’s engine automatically when stoped. Such a system can improve fuel consumption and lower CO2 output by up to 10%. It was first introduced in a Kia’s minicar Picanto last year, but never used on the road.

Although it is not exactly known when, Eco_cee’d is coming to production! And this is the most important news.

Sports Coupe concept heralds new look for Kia’s future!

- European-styled Sports Coupe Concept to reveal new face-of-Kia
- 4.3-metre long 2+2 coupe to make World Premiere on 11 September

Kia Motors Corporation has released a second preview image of the concept car it will unveil for the first time at the Frankfurt International Motor Show. Shown in profile, the svelte Sports Coupe Concept reveals classic lines coupled with a lengthened cabin design.

Designed in Europe, under the guidance of Kia’s Chief Design Officer, Peter Schreyer, the all-new 2+2 Sports Coupe Concept, whose name remains a secret at present, will demonstrate an uncluttered, pure and timeless execution and represents a new design ethos for the Korean automotive company.

“The new Sports Coupe Concept is a clear and emphatic statement that the future of the Kia brand is set to be one that will excite and surprise an entirely new audience of consumers,” commented Peter Schreyer. Our Sports Coupe Concept is not simply a flight of fancy.”

“I believe this concept car could be a landmark vehicle in Kia’s history and I wanted it to appeal to the widest possible audience. This design is not the result of self-indulgent design excess. It incorporates a host of elements that will become the new face-of-Kia right across our product range and it is the clearest design statement about the way I want Kia to be seen as we go forwards,” added Schreyer.
