It still has to grow on me though. It reminds me of a higher Mazda 3 from the side. The front bumper is too high but other than that, I like the adveraturious look. That go anywhere type of look . The Honda CR- V would look strange going off road because it has that on road appearance. This wouldn’t look strange going off road like that Mazda CX-7 neither. I don’t like crossovers that look like it’s just for onroad like the Ford Edge looks or Chevy Trreverse. Do you guys think it’ll have Panaramic sunroof?

It grew on me now. If anyone is looking for the next small CUV, check this out. Sure we don’t know anything about it but if you want something that isn’t seen on the streets ever 5 seconds wait for this rare ride. F the Rav-4 that you see ever .05 of a second.

I really like that back end. I know when I go to other blogs people are going to say “It looks like an Audi” But they didn’t say that about ACuras and Honda’s tailights looking like an Audi. The Mitsubishi RVR’s (or is it DVR) tailights came from the Hyundai Sante Fe’s.

Excellent!! My next new vehicle. Look s much better than the new Tucson. More cohesive

I take that back about my last commet. The side can’t remind me of the 2009 Mazda 3 becasue the Kue arrived in 2007 in NAIAS.

SUPER! IT LOOKS LIKE THE NEW “SORENTO”
When it will be possibLE to buy it in russiaRUSSIA?

  9. vitaly Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 2:53 pm

But I wonder in price for the new “SPORTAGE”?

  10. Sorento Owner Says:

    Prons : Generally Good Looking.
In any angle, It is hardly find bad points.
It is not polarized design, like Hyundai.

    Cons : Repetitive Design.
It looks like a small version of Kia Sorento.
Peter Schryer really like Repetitive Design, like BMWs and Audis.

Overall, Good Design. But, If Kia want design leader of automotive world, they should create new design trend. (I like Sonata’s 4dr Coupe style)

More beautiful than the sorento 2010 more modern and updated and a combination of VW tiguan by side in front and rear of Toureg.

  12. jtz Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 4:37 pm

That back end is just so so nice. I like the extrior a lot but especially that back end.

  13. jtz Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 4:51 pm

So ummm, which side is the gas tank really on?

  14. Scott Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 5:26 pm

It looks like the taillights are similiar to the K-7. Lets makes a statement Kia, and have those in L.e.d’s.

  15. BJD Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 5:53 pm

Side: the swept back look looks really sporty. cabin portion looks simple and the lines are in just the right place here. towards the rear, it looks ok. the tail lights looks like the Japanese Mazda 6’s from this angle. wheels look good too.
    .
Front: It looks really good if you cover those large ugly fog lamps! ground clearance looks promising*
    .
Rear: perfect. It’s not too plain like the traverse’s because it has that indentation in the lower half of the hatch and the tail lights look nice too (would look even better if it will be LED)

*the ground clearance may be helpful while off-roading but you cant really take crossovers off-road (take this from a crossover user) they have stiff suspension meant for road use and better on-road handling. Also, the lack of low range gearing and a lockable diff renders it useless in many off-road situations. Hence I say, it would be better to keep the clearance low to improve the sporty look.

  16. Bryan Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 6:20 pm

Those foglights take a minute or two to get used to. Like it’s overall styling, though. The windswept front looks good and the rear looks clean. Nice job Kia!

  17. BJD Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 6:23 pm

and yes. The fuel filler is on the right (passenger) side this time for some reason. I wonder what influences their decision on which side the filler goes… :S

  18. mueludo Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 8:07 pm

Hmm, A Rogue rump, a Kia front and a Jeep Compass side view – I think they could have done better.

  19. BernardP Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 8:48 pm

Looks good except for the C pillar profile. The rear edge of the back window is leaning backwards, like the Mitsubishi Outlander, making the C pillar too massive. The vehicle would have a lighter look if this line was leaning forward.

  20. jtz Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 9:18 pm

The C pillar leans back like the Outlander but it doesn’t look anything like that. It’s more like the Infnti FX’s C pillar with a lean added to it. The Outlander’s C pillar looks more like the Jeeps Compass’s C pillar. And besides, I could chew up both the Outlander’s and Jeep Compass’s designs they’re not all that original.

  21. jtz Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 9:19 pm

The lean in the C pillar didn’t become popular until the Soul was shown at the NAIAS in 2006.

  22. jtz Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 9:21 pm

Just look at the what concept GM Shown at this years NAIAS.

  23. jtz Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 9:22 pm

Infact that lean is also on the Toytoa Rave 4. The Soul was show a year before the 07′ rave 4 came out.

  24. jtz Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 9:25 pm

Opps. The Soul was shown at the NAIAS in 2006 a year before the 2007 Rave 4 arrived.

  25. GregHozta Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 9:47 pm

    Nice, but…
Little KIA Sorento (front), little KIA Forte LPi (foglight), and Mitsubishi Outlander (back)

  26. Kevin Says:

    January 18th, 2010 at 9:52 pm

That looks hideous. I usually like Kia design’s, but I’ll take my 08 sportage over this new one anyday :-s

Does anyone know when and where this and the North American Cadenza are going to be unveiled?

I hear the Cadenza well be at LA Auto Show

  29. Scott Says:

  32. Tony Says:

i agree the c-pillars are hopeless

i don’t particularly like them on the sorrento but this is too much

  33. jtz Says:

    January 19th, 2010 at 2:50 pm

Yeah that’s what I mean 2010 LA Auto Show. So I heard and read. Awww come on guys give the Sportage’s C pillars a chance. After all those C pillars found on the Rave 4 and Outlander came from the AMC Gremlin back in 1970. I told you I can get cars from A to Z.

  34. kopee Says:

    January 19th, 2010 at 2:58 pm

this is definitely awesome!!its exactly wat i xpected.it looks almost like the kia kue concept. The only way kia isnt goin to disappoint me nd oda kia fans, is by giving the sportage a 2 door coupe jus like the original kue concept. Now that is goin to rock the industry..Pleasee!!kia give it a try.

  35. jtz Says:

    January 19th, 2010 at 6:23 pm

I want to see the interior now. So far the the one on spy shots wasn’t very impressive.

  36. Bryan Says:

    January 19th, 2010 at 7:36 pm

It is a very stylish C-pillar. I like it, I like the whole truck, really.

  37. bornloser Says:

    January 19th, 2010 at 8:10 pm

To much jeep compass for me… this is definetely a woman’s car.. ;-)

  38. BJD Says:

    January 19th, 2010 at 8:19 pm

I’ll second what bornloser says. unfortunately, all small SUVs turn into crossovers that look very feminine. The few that dont include the Escape, current sportage/tucson, grand vitara, patroit and umm, think thats it.
    .
everything else these days just wont make it to my list of cars to consider when I’m buying something and now (or soon), it includes this new sportage and tucson cuz of the design. I wont be seen in one of these.

  39. Scott Says:

    January 20th, 2010 at 1:31 am

It looks a thousand times better than the current model.
BJD, I like to think it looks more refined and has more style. Maybe it will appeal to many more people and sales will reflect that.

  40. Greg Says:

    January 20th, 2010 at 4:33 am

These photos look much like photoshops anyway. I think we’d better wait and see something from official Kia. Something about the back is just wrecking it for me.

  41. Dirk Says:

    January 20th, 2010 at 12:23 pm

I now what you mean, Grag.
It’s the missing tailpipes, rear axis, etc. on these picutres… They make the car look like too flat, and too high.

  42. Bahman Says:

    January 20th, 2010 at 1:03 pm

It is very nice only with V6 engine.

  43. JonathanLGardner Says:

    January 20th, 2010 at 5:58 pm

LOVE the design but it does look like it’s standing on its toes LMAO.
What is it about V6 engines? Why not get a 2,0L and turbocharge it – which would give better fuel economy and performance. In fact, even better would be a 2,0L Turbo diesel (which it will probably have =D)

  44. jtz Says:

    January 20th, 2010 at 6:51 pm

I think it’ll look better in person and with real color. Remember how no one seemed to really like the Sorento ro Cadenza? Besides, the interior is important too. It looks nice to me but it don’t look as good as the Acura RDX. I think that is the best looking compact luxury SUV out and no one seems to be able to make a small cuv like better than that yet. The 1st geneation Infinti FX was the best looking CUV out too. I think they are original I can’t even take what cues the FX got it’s deisigns from. But I know the Accadia got it’s tailights from it. The Kia Mesa cues came from it as well as the Toyota Camry’s headlights. But I don’t know where the Infinti FX got it’s cues from. If Toyota or Honda cloned the 1st generation FX, no one would say nothing BUT let it be a Hyundai or a Kia and you’ll have over 100 commets about copying.

  45. Greg Says:

    January 20th, 2010 at 7:35 pm

I am shocked they are dropping the V6. They NEED the 2.4L GDI in it. 75% of Sportage sales in the states are V6 engines. That 2.0L is WAY underpowered for the car.

  46. jtz Says:

    January 20th, 2010 at 11:02 pm

The Sportage will be fine with a powerful 2.4L engine. Personally, I never understond the point of a 2.7L V6 engine with well under 200 horses. You can get a Honda Civic SI 2.4L wiht more horses without out 2 extra pistons.

  47. Greg Says:

    January 21st, 2010 at 5:09 am

I had a neat commercial idea for the Sportage. “Business in the front, party in the back.” For the first part of the commercial, the announcer would talk about the powerful GDI engine, or some other feature topic. Near the end of the commercial, there are hamsters tailgating/partying out the back of it. Kind of silly, but maybe it would bring back the mullet hairstyle……

  48. Greg Says:

    January 21st, 2010 at 5:10 am

LOL! Kia could get Billy Ray Cyrus to announce the commercial, LMAO!!

  49. himi Says:

    January 22nd, 2010 at 1:54 pm

nice idea Greg, but this would be even better idea for a Soul commercial.

  50. Darius Davis Says:

    January 24th, 2010 at 11:15 pm

The 2.7 V6 is less powerful than their own 2.4 I4 and is slower than the new 2.4 I4. Add to the fact that later on they will receive turbo DI I4 engines.

  51. Greg. Says:

    January 25th, 2010 at 2:31 am

The GDI 2.4L has more horsepower than the 2.7L V6 in the Rondo and Optima. It really is sad that Kia never put the 2.4L in the current gen Sportage, I think it could have sold better. Trying to move those 2.0L Sportages from the dealership is like trying to move a 10 story building. It can be done, but it takes a lot of time, and a lot of hard work.

  53. Bryan Says:

    January 28th, 2010 at 4:38 pm

Wow, this design is growing on me big-time. Beautiful. And I now classify that C-pillar as an assett, not a liability at all, car nuts.

OFFICIAL 2011 Sportage photos at Motor report. I hate the ones in this post. The official ones look a ton nicer.
