The all-new 2011 Kia Sorento prices to start at $20.790 (including a $795 destination charge).
The all-new 2011 Kia Sorento will be making its inroads into Kia’s dealerships across the USA in January next year, with a starting price tag of $20.790 for an entry-level, front-wheel-drive model, while prices will top out at $29.690 for the all-wheel-drive Sorento crossover with 6-speed automatic gearbox and more potent six-cylinder engine.
The entry-level Sorento with front-wheel-drive drivetrine offers seating for five people and is equipped with 2.4L Theta II gasoline engine. The four-cylinder unit, which produces 175 horsepower, is paired with six-speed manual transmission.
The top-of-the-range Sorento model is equipped with more potent six-cylinder Lambda II engine, which puts out class-leading 276 horsepower and 248 ft-lb, and mates Kia’s all-new six-speed automatic transmission. It is available in either front-while-drive or all-wheel drive variants with prices ranging from $27,990 to $29,690.
The all-new 2011 Kia Sorento crossover is the very first Kia vehicle that is being produced at Kia’s Georgia-based production facility, which can build up to 300.000 new vehicles per year. Production of the 2011 Sorento has already begun, while sales are scheduled to commence during January 2010.
2011 Kia Sorento prices (Note: prices include $795 shipping charge):
Base model: 2.4L four-cylinder engine, Manual Transmission, 4×2 = $20.790
Sorento LX: 2.4L four-cylinder engine, Automatic Transmission, 4×2 = $23.190
Sorento LX: 2.4L four-cylinder engine, Automatic Transmission, 4×4 = $24.890
Sorento EX: 2.4L four-cylinder engine, Automatic Transmission, 4×2 = $25.390
Sorento EX: 2.4L four-cylinder engine, Automatic Transmission, 4×4 = $27.090
Sorento EX: 3.5L six-cylinder engine, Automatic Transmission, 4×2 = $27.990
Sorento EX: 3.5L six-cylinder engine, Automatic Transmission, 4×4 = $29.690
Update: Kia Motors America just recently updated Sorento line-up by adding a new trim package. Find out more about 2011 Kia Sorento SX here.

There really should be an LX V6 model.
December 18th, 2009 at 11:10 pm
It’s rare these days to have a manufacturer come out with a redesigned model and have it around the same price range the previous generation model was in.
December 19th, 2009 at 2:06 am
Well JTZ it seems like KIA is going Cheaper in price. You see how much they plan to price that Soul Truck (Soulster)=$10,000. That means the Rio will be anywhere from $9500-$16,000.
In the Fiesta Leather is only $716 Extra. A Loaded Fiesta is $20,410, just remember that.
December 19th, 2009 at 3:52 am
I work for a Kia Store in the US and I looked at the Inbound Sorento Inventory. from List to Dealer Invoice on some Sorento’s you have a $200-$300 mark up. How the hell are we supposed to make any freaking money?
December 19th, 2009 at 5:11 am
Many dealership mark up their cars by the thousands. Kia Autosport in Florida is the biggest rip-off in the Kia market.
December 19th, 2009 at 7:58 am
So… I thought the Korean Brands were going upmarket; why is this sorento even CHEAPER than the last ones? (Not that I’m complaining…)
December 19th, 2009 at 8:46 am
This new Sorento is cheaper because unibody vehicles are cheaper to manufacture than BOF vehicles, and also, there is no trans-pacific shipping cost.
December 19th, 2009 at 2:54 pm
Is the sorento, that is made in US, be shipped to other markets? or will they get it from S. Korea?
December 19th, 2009 at 3:29 pm
Most of them will get Exported BJD. Hyundai plans to make Santa Fes and other Hyundai/KIA Product at that plant. Santa Fe Production is moving from Alabama to Georgia.
-
Vizel they are, but the speed they go upmarket depends on the market too. In the US market KIA has Replaced Dodge, and Hyundai has replaced Chrysler pretty Much. Hyundai/KIA still has an up-hill struggle in Europe. Outside of those markets the speed is moving great. I think KIA could be moved upmarket in the US in the long term, as Hyundai gains more luxury credibility.
-
One good thing about KIA is that its building that “Me Too Car” type culture that VW used to have. If KIA plays its cards right the SOUL could be the true replacement for the old School VW Bettle. The Soul is slowly building sort of a Cult Status.
December 19th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
The US plant builds only for the U.S. and Canada for the Sorento.
December 19th, 2009 at 7:30 pm
What better state in the U.S. to have an over-charging Kia dealer than Florida. Passing the high prices on to their imported residents retiring there from N.Y., Connecticut, Mass., etc. Eh?
December 19th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
The Kia Soul replaced the VW Beetle about a year ago with this padre.
December 19th, 2009 at 10:57 pm
I got in the Sorento at the dealership. Man that ride was roomy. It was easy to get in and out. It’s a lot bigger in person. Once I got inside, I knew this was competing with the Highlander and not Rave 4. It’s too big inside to be considered compact.
December 20th, 2009 at 2:10 am
Yes, it’s a midsize to replace the Rondo. If people weren’t so stubborn and look at the true dimensions of it, they would know that it’s actually smaller (for seating space) than the Rondo is!! The Rondo (even though it has lower ground clearance) is taller than the Sorento!!
December 20th, 2009 at 3:15 am
The Sorento is huge anyway you try to shake it. The Rondo is just a car based hatchback compared to a Sorento, becuase it is.
December 20th, 2009 at 5:19 am
Right about that. It’s just that the Sportage was good enough to be noticed as a compact CUV with the CRV and that ugly Rave-4. When that new Sportage arrives, then the Sorento can’t be mistaken for a little cuv. And I’m saw the next generation Jeep Grandcherokee. It’s a CUV now. So the 2011 Kia Borrego will compete with that since it has a V8 and neither the Traverse nor Highlander doesnt’ so it doesn’t rival agasint them.
December 20th, 2009 at 8:38 am
yea I saw the sorento at the DUbai motorshow. it is actually smaller inside, than I expected. and the third row option is best to stay away from. It was on a raised platform so I couldnt really compare it to the rondo’s height. Saw the Cadenza as well. I will post pix on the forum after I resize the images.
December 20th, 2009 at 10:20 am
But anybody who buys any Chrsyler Product these days is stupid, as in That company is not going to exist in 3 years. Either:
-
1. Jeep Will be Acquired by GM or Ford.
2. Jeep Will be Acquired by a Chinese Make.
3. Jeep Will be Acquired by an Indian Make.
4. Jeep Will be Acquired by Hyundai/KIA
December 20th, 2009 at 10:22 am
5. Or Jeep will cease to exist
December 20th, 2009 at 10:25 am
Jeep needs a Truck that can replace the Humvee in the Military. Its just that simple. If FIAT doesnt see that, then they need to pack it up and pull the plug on Chrysler now.
December 20th, 2009 at 10:33 am
Then Again, I think either the Chinese, Russians, or the Inidans will create the Next Thing that replaces the Land Rover/Jeep/Humvee.
-
Hey you guys notice how as Civilization goes on, an empire creates a MIlitary Truck that storms the World, and then they colapse:
-
ngland-Land Rover-Empire Collasped
America-Jeep/Hummer-Empire Fastly Deteriorating
China-Hummer/The Next Big Thing-Empire Growing
December 20th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
Hummvee was a sellout vehicle. Ever driven a real military HMMV? Its huge and visibility blows. The try and convert it to market and expect sales? Stupid…Whats killing us wasting money on unwinnable war now. Afghanistan..Russia did and they went broke..I know this isn’t supposed to be a political chat but that the root cause. In order to sell cars Americans need jobs. I hope the analyst’s see this. Hyundai and Kia did this by bringing a plant here and creating jobs. Toyota is crap because of the issues. ( runaway cars). Take a look at the toyota used car ads, a lot of toyota’s for sale..I could go on and on. Boring stuff..
December 20th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
Thai-o-ta already sells way more cars than they deserve. They need to fall on really hard times. Good to see.
December 21st, 2009 at 4:55 am
Nothing wrong with bringing politics in here. Cars are both Social, and Political, and are works of Art. Chjee, Hummer was GMs only success story until gas hit $4.00+ a Gallon. Personally I think They should have dropped GMC and Kept Hummer. Then They should have added 2 smaller Hummers:
-
One the Size of a Soul that got 32-34 MPG.
-
One the Size of a Current Gen Sportage that got 28-30 MPG.
December 21st, 2009 at 4:56 am
And Diesels Hummers arent meant to be powered by Diesels in the first place.
December 21st, 2009 at 4:56 am
not arent are
December 22nd, 2009 at 6:11 am
There is no reason to ever put a V6 in this vehicle. The V6 makes this car much to powerful to potentially fall into the hands of soccer mom with road rage. Just because your kid’s gonna be late for practice doesn’t mean you need to cut me off while driving 70 in a 55.
December 22nd, 2009 at 6:13 am
I am speaking too model specifically. When you put the gas pedal all the way to the floor in the V6 front wheel drive only model while starting out, the front hops around like a toad on caffeine pills.
December 22nd, 2009 at 8:42 am
Anyway when did Kia want to export this Kia Sorento to overseas like Malaysia , Singapore and more?>:);)
December 22nd, 2009 at 12:18 pm
Greg, 70 in a 55 is ok. The entire interstate system is set-up for at least 70 MPH travel. Most US speed limits are under inflated, becuase of the revenues this surely provides the many various municipalities.
December 22nd, 2009 at 1:19 pm
If you drove the 4 cyl Sorento, you would see why you need the 6 cyl.
December 22nd, 2009 at 5:50 pm
As long as the new Sorento can kill the Traverse and Equinox I’m good with the Sorento’s V6 engine. If it’s fast like that with a high mpg of 26 on the highway that is good with me. I never got to test drive it though it’s just siting on the showroom floor at my closes Kia retailer (where I purchased my Kia Forte from). If I owned one, I would keep the 3rd row down it makes the crossover look tacky inside (just like all the other cuvs with 3rd row). If anyone buys this they’ll be satsified with it for a number of reasons, Number one, it’s stylish (unlike that Traverse) No.2 it’s rare (unlike that ugly Highlander) and No.3 it is very fuel efficient (unlike that stupid looking Ford Edge).
December 22nd, 2009 at 6:33 pm
Anyone else think it’s strange that a vehicle built domestically has a higher shipping charge than one that has to be shipped via boat, then train, then transport truck?! (Sorento vs Sportage; $795 vs $695; yes the Sorento is heavier, but the difference is only 400-500 lbs.) Or that the Sedona and Borrego, both produced in Korea and shipped as previously mentioned, are the same price as the domestically produced Sorento…
December 22nd, 2009 at 9:59 pm
The ocean shipping charge is worked into the MSRP. HS, we have no interstate in Manistee. The closest interstate is I 96, which is 85 miles away.
December 22nd, 2009 at 10:35 pm
(in reference to jtz’s last comment mentioning the 3rd row)
Are 3rd row seats standard with the V6 model? Is there no option to have it with 5 seats with this engine?
December 23rd, 2009 at 4:17 am
I can answer that for you Boris, yep you get the 3 row with the V-6 standard.
December 23rd, 2009 at 4:18 am
The seats lay flat down, only difference is with the 5 pass. you get a storage bin that is under the floor that is decent size.
December 23rd, 2009 at 5:20 am
3rd Row is standard on the V6 model. I can’t wait for the SX Sorento! Coming in mid-2010 the SX Sorento will have such features as: Monochromatic exterior (no cladding), dual chrome exhaust, 18 inch (possibly 19) hyper silver wheels, aluminum interior trim and mono-black leather seats, LCD gauges, Infinity Audio System with TFT screen, voice command system (Kia’s “Sync”), and HD radio receiver. We were told all about the SX Sorento at dealership orientation.
December 23rd, 2009 at 2:42 pm
that sounds good! the matte black plastic on sorento’s rear bumper doesnt look all that sporty as its supposed to! if that’s what you meant by ‘cladding’
December 23rd, 2009 at 5:54 pm
Greg do you know if HD will be standard on any models (aside from this SX Sorento) in the future? I keep hearing they will be bringing HD radios to Kia and Hyundai, but I’m not sure when. Thanks.
December 23rd, 2009 at 6:34 pm
The only feature I don’t agree 100% about is the sunroof, you have to buy the EX V6 in order to get a sunroof. It would be nice if the EX I4 had available sunroof while the EX V6 has the panaramic. I’m sure some people want a sunroof but maybe the EX V6 is out of their price range. I’m glad to hear about the SX though. It would be nice if the SX had blind spots sensors for the exterior mirrors also.
December 23rd, 2009 at 7:09 pm
The panoramic sunroof is one of the best features in Sorento (and future Kia models) and unfortunately because of the packaging, not everyone can benefit from it!
December 23rd, 2009 at 7:34 pm
HD radio won’t be standard in Kias until more stations switch to it. It won’t come on any current gen models (Forte, Koup, and Soul will have to wait, but it should come with each’s facelift). The Cadenza is set to have it, as is the Sportage, next Borrego, and Optima. The new Rio might get it, but it’s too far away to tell. I still think it’s neat that the oldest Kia in the line-up by 2012 will be the Soul.
December 24th, 2009 at 5:11 am
Damm Greg, how much is an Ocean Shipping Charge? Why dont you buy on the mainland and the drive and ferry it home?
December 24th, 2009 at 6:10 am
What are you talking about? The only car without ocean shipping charge worked in is the 2011 Sorento. Port fees and ocean shipping costs combine and end up between $700-$1000. That is before the truck and train transport to the dealerships.
December 24th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
I think in Canada we get that port fees and ocean shipping tacked on as a seperate total as ours are quite high comparied to the US. Fore example a RIO is $1,455 for Delivery and Destination, whereas in the US its $695.
However, if this is the case what’s with the prices on North American built vehicles like the Honda Civic its $1395 in Canada and that’s built in Alliston, Ontario, Canada. The same vehicle in the US is $710 for destination and delivery. I just can’t figure it out?
Greg, any ideas on this?
December 24th, 2009 at 5:54 pm
I cannot agree more with one of the earlier bloggers. This vehicle will KILL the Edge / MKS. I was a former Ford Fanatic but now I am a Konverted Kia Konnoisseur (KKK yeah I know some will have a problem with that but you can take a negative and turn it into a positive).
I think the Sorento hits it right on the head it has a little bit for everyone and I think the idea of an SX model will aim directly at the Acura MDX which I think is a hideous vehicle.
Kia keep up the good work and don’t stop giving people what they want and the options that they desire STANDARD!!!! Down with FORD and LINCOLN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
December 24th, 2009 at 7:12 pm
conwelpic, I really have no idea. It could be that car companies think they can get away with it, and they do.

1. You are an idiot for comparing the Sorento to a MDX. Have you ever sat in EITHER? MDX is clearly superior in every department, as it should be since it starts about 20K higher.
2. I’d honestly take a loaded Edge over a Sorento any day of the week and you can call me a huge Kia fan as well.
December 29th, 2009 at 5:32 pm
The Edge has crappy interior materials.
December 29th, 2009 at 7:01 pm
Why is the person an idiot for comparing the Sorento to the MDX. The MDX is one of the worst Acuras and has poor fuel mpg for a CUV it size (doesn’t the Borrego get better mpg on the highway?). That’s not so superior in that department. There I just compared them am I an idiot now? The Acura RDX is a better buy it’s one of the best Acuras (I’d get the RDX over that CR-V. becasue it’s rare too).

Wow, you compared one “department”. If you are buying a 50K SUV you can pay for the fuel. Kia tuned the Borrego to perform well in the EPA tests through refusal to downshift on the highway and upshift early as possible. That kills the driving experience. There is more to a vehicle than MPG figures. What “department” are you going to compare next? Looks? Because that is completely subjective.
The base RDX costs over $10,000 more than a base CR-V. Another pointless and moronic comparison.
Yes, you still are an idiot.
January 4th, 2010 at 10:06 pm
Greg, since you have some insight, when do you expect any substantial inventory of the new Sorento to arrive at dealers? I’m seriously thinking about buying one, and have certificate for $1,000 off if I buy between January 4 and February 1, 2010. Second, are dealers being pushed or getting incentives from Kia to really get as many Sorentos on the road as possible right away to build public awareness (hence the $1,000 certificate)?
January 4th, 2010 at 10:50 pm
Well, I know that most dealerships will have their Sorento stock by the end of the week. Kia generally doesn’t put any kind of rebates on new vehicles. When the Borrego was launched, they only did $750 certificates. As for the dealers, they do as they please no matter what Kia says. Some dealerships (like Lou Fusz of St. Louis and Kia Autosport of Florida/Georgia) put huge “market adjustments” on all cars, and make the price sometimes 5k more than sticker. Then there are the dealerships who price their cars less than MSRP.
January 4th, 2010 at 11:28 pm
What do you mean the MDX is better than the Sorento in every department when the Sorento has a much higher mpg?
January 5th, 2010 at 12:04 am
Bill, is the $1,000 off certificate just something that was passed out or does it have your name printed on it? I am going to purchase a Sorento and would really like to get my hands on one. Thanks
January 5th, 2010 at 12:28 am
I got notice of the certificate via email (twice, actually). I then had to download the actual certificate. I’m guessing that I received it because I signed up on the Kia website for email updates on the Sorento. I mean I also own a Hyundai Entourage, which is built by Kia, but I doubt that that’s the connection.
January 5th, 2010 at 1:58 am
We finally have one Sorento grounded that is now available for sale. It is a 4 cylinder FWD with the convienece package. Gives you the rear camera, heated seats, fogs, and few other minor details. Has an MSRP of $24,340. Sharp looking CUV just waiting on our service dept. to finish PDI.
January 5th, 2010 at 3:18 am
It should be $24,190.
January 5th, 2010 at 4:09 am
Bill, Is it possible that if I give you my e-mail that you could forward one of the certificates to me? Thanks a lot.
January 5th, 2010 at 6:13 am
I don’t think it will work. The certificate I printed out has my name all over it and there is a customer number associated with the email and therefore my name. It really looks like they send to the person. When I registered at the site, I gave my email address and my name. If anybody sees a way around it, without potentially invalidating my rebate, I’ll be happy to hear it.
January 14th, 2010 at 6:32 pm
Recently I knew about Sorento. Now I am considering buying one. I visited the website of the kia dealer near my house, but there was no detailed infomation.
All of the postings were interesting and helpful. Good luck!!
January 16th, 2010 at 6:41 am
Any info would be helpful.I went to the dealership today to buy a Sorento. The MSRP on the EXV62x4 is 32,815 It seems like the dealer has made their own price. BTW The dealer offered me the 1000 dollar kia incentive and the also had a list of about 20 cars that one could get another 1000 off.if they owned one .What should the msrp be aprrox.I live in so cal
January 16th, 2010 at 8:53 am
Kia Sorento EX V6 4×2 with Premium Package, Limited Package, and Floormats is exactly $32,815. If you wish to verivy yourself, go to kia*dot*com/sorento
January 17th, 2010 at 6:48 am
Thanks for the answer Went and purchased the car earlier today and very happy
January 20th, 2010 at 1:37 am
ABC Family channel had a show with a Sorento in it. Plus there was tons of Kia commercials.
FYI, the Canadian version has different options, like you can get the panoramic sunroof with a five passenger Sorento or 4 cyl engine.
January 20th, 2010 at 4:37 am
Yeah, some girl at school said she was watching something about a “secret teenager” on abc family, and saw “the Kia that was in the commercials”. It’s funny, everyone seems to know that I am really into Kia. People ask me all the time, “Anything new with Kia lately?” FYI, not a good question to ask ME if you don’t want a several hour long conversation!
January 25th, 2010 at 2:52 am
In MA, just purchased an LX 4×4 with the convenience package, upgraded leather heated seats, panoramic view, side runners, rear spoiler, remote starter. Excellent 4.0 finance (hoped for 2.9 and still negotiating that. They can do anything until tomorrow (monday) when finance opens back up.) seeing that will be offered for president’s day sales but they said only on a lease will there be a deal. This car’s a beauty. I live on the top of a hill so the extra traction control features for up hill and down hill sold me! Wish I could have afforded the keyless entry push button start but that would have been an extre $2K. Couldn’t justify it. ALL THE EXTRAS that they consider STANDARD is CRAZY!
Love the blue-tooth and navigation. Hurry up for the $1K ending 2/1/10. You’ll even get a stand$1k off if you have a similar styled car. Unfortunately my old SAAB didn’t fit the list as it was a sedan. Can’t wait to pick it up on Friday ready to roll!
January 25th, 2010 at 2:55 am
BTW, Tested a Nissan, Subura Forrester and Outback and know the Maza Truimph and the KIA won hands down with all the features it has standard and their willingness to work on customizing with the panoramic windows etc. Love the camera feature in the rear mirror that shows what’s actually behind you that you might not see and also beeps when you get close to an object. Totally impressed especially with the 10years 100,000 miles warranty! Can’t beat it all around!
March 11th, 2010 at 11:56 pm
Anything else known about the Sorento SX edition? I want to make sure I know all I can before I jump in and purchase a Sorento. I would hate to buy an EX now and in several months wish I had gotten an SX.
March 19th, 2010 at 4:35 am
Yes, I would like to know more about the Sorento SX also. Where is Greg? lol. The biggest appeal for me is the monochromatic body. I hate that rear plastic black bumper. Makes it look cheap especially with light colors. Does anyone know historically how much more the SX trim is over the EX trim? I hope it’s about 2k so a loaded SX would MSRP for about $34k. Would hate to pay more than that for a KIA.
