The upcoming 2010 Kia Venga mini MPV receives prestigious iF product design award!

Stylish Kia Venga mini MPV is not even on sale just yet, but it has already won its very first prestigious accolade. The B-segment mini-MPV, which goes on sale in 2010, has been awarded the iF product design award, which is rated as one of the most prestigious international design awards that a vehicle can receive.

The international jury of experts honored the Kia Venga for its design quality, level of innovativeness and eco-friendliness!

“B-segment MPVs have traditionally been the type of vehicles purchased out of necessity – they are cars of function and practicality,” explains Peter Schreyer – Kia Chief Design Officer- who led Kia Venga’s design team.  “Now all that is about to change.  With the new Venga we have designed a car that will fulfill European consumers’ practical requirements, while also being genuinely desirable and fun to drive.

“The all-new Kia Venga is definitely going to re-ignite interest among consumers in B-segment MPVs, by setting new standards for the class!” added P. Schreyr.

Since its launch in 1953, the iF product design award, which is awarded annually, has been one of the world’s most important prizes for excellence in design.  The award has its origins in the product shows “Die gute Industrieform” (Good Industrial Design) initiated by Hanover Messe and is now one of the world’s largest design competitions.

This display will continue until August 2010 and around 250,000 visitors are expected.

This car is sweet, this should be the Rio 5 for the US market, and then KIA should have a Rio Sedan and 3 door.

But from the conversations on this blog the new Kia Venga will not come to da States nor will it be the Kia Rio 5 here. There’s a beast of some other sort being planned for the American masses. Yeah, I agree, this one would sure be welcome here by me, myself and I.

Remember the Rio will have a 3 door this time, as it is slated to be cheaper than the Accent. The Rio will also get the 1.6 L minus the Direct Injection system the Accent will get, as another way to keep it as cheap as possible. But the Rio will get a 2.0L as a performance option most likely. The Accent will also get a 2.0L (Which will be cheaper on the Rio) as well as the 1.6 Hybrid (Which will be a high cost extra for the Rio, but cheap on the Accent) the 1.6 GDI, and 1.6 GDI Turbo. The Accent will be the size of a Venga and Forte (Which is a little smaller than Elantra), the Rio will be close to its current size. KIA will get the Pure Plain Jane 3 door hatch(Though I wish it borrowed some Kues from the Kee, lol) , Hyundai will get the Veloster.

Of course both will get humdrum sedans, if the Accent sedan is styled like the Sonata, I bet the Rio Sedan will be styled like the next gen Optima. I hope the Rio 5 door if not Venga looks like a shrunken Soul. I hear the Accent 5 door will be an elongated Veloster.

The Rio will be the performance leader of small cars, the Accent will be the fuel economy leader of small cars.

Dirk, could you please post more accurate information about your Venga test drive?

That would be cool with me, to have the new world order Kia Rio be the performance leader in small cars. That will be popular here in the U.S.

The Venga does look very good indeed. However the fuell efficiency and CO2 emmisions of the diesel engine… these figures would have been good 5 to 10 years ago! Approximately 70% of the cars sold on the “old continent” are diesels. Why? Because the fuel prices here are waaaay much higher (thanx to the taxes) so fuell efficiency is very important. Furthermore: in a lot of European countries diesel is stil cheaper than regular and diesel engines are considered more reliable and presumably have a better longevity (and hence better resale value). And finally: let’s face it: a modern diesel engine is much more fun to drive than its gas counterpart (ever driven a 1.4 or 1.6 benzine (as we call it) cee’d?). And since the Venga is aimes at the european market….

I tested the car yesterday. In my opinion, it drives better than the SOUL. Petrol version is increadibly silent (90 pK is sufficient). Steering is very precise. Seats are larger than in SOUL and better shaped for tall people. A little minus point: central consola is hurting my right tibia, so I have to move my leg towards the middle in order to avoid contact. Visibility is excellent. Feeling of quietness on board. Outer look resembles Peugeot 308, but about 40 cm smaller, which is better. Are Kia managers reading this ? Here are two suggestions: 1) Why not remove the central consola and put gear changes on steering wheel, just as in the Fifties? 2) And why not drive with a joy stick: one stick for direction changes (left-right) + accelerating/stopping (front/zero/rear) ? My conclusion for VENGA: this is a lovely modern and intelligent car from a company that listens to customers’ wishes AND applies changes often very QUICKLY, far more quickly than Europeans !
