It seems the headlights resemble an audi but i won’t say much cuz i cant see the entire thing. I really hope it doesnt look like audi’s. the K7 has got enough comments on its rear lights totally resembling an audi’s. And how many ppl can one tell that Kia has an ex-Audi designer? i like the wheels in that day-time shot.

I think it will look better than Audi!

I’m pretty sure everyone will be amazed by its design. If you look at the prototype closely, you can see some really distinctive details, not seen on any Kia before.

What vehicle platform is the K5 off of?
If the K7 is an Hyundai Azera derivative, what’s the comparable Hyundai? …or what’s the Kia model that the K5 will replace (particularly in the North American market)?

This very nice. I like this better than the very nice also Hyundai Sonata. Just look at thouse muscles it reminds me of 4 door Kia Kee. At least the exterior of the trunk looks like it came from the Kee. Kia K5 sounds a lot better than K7 or Candenza (they should have stuck with the Amanti name). Kia K5 I like that name. Lets call it the K5 until Kia tells us what the name is going to be. I like that it’s catchy. Kia K5. Nice design too they better come out with a coupe along with this too.

Wow! This is looking really good. I am not really liking the Rondo 16s on it, but I’m sure those won’t make production. The overall profile is great, and the face looks downright mean. I hope Kia doesn’t ruin this design by putting the badge on the hood like on the Cadenza. The Cadenza’s front end is kind of awkward.
Greg Says:
November 4th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
The reason they didn’t use the Amanti name on the Cadenza is because they will use the Amanti name for the RWD Amanti successor. Kia will continue to call the ‘K5′ the Optima in the states, and for good reason. People associate the name Optima with a well built, affordable car from Kia. Remember what happened when Ford stopped using Taurus, and started calling their midsize the Five Hundred. Bad idea, their sales went way down. That is why they had to ‘reinvent’ the Taurus image for 2010.
Wow omg, that’s going to look amazing. I think Kia should start incorporating running lights into their designs as they look amazing on Audis (which without them would look really quite boring lol). Plus, they might make it mandatory soon in Europe for cars to have them =P

I agree with you Smoke, the K5 has a very Germanic look, but at the same time, the car sports Kia’s latest distinctive design genes.

-
Hyundai VS Buick, Mercury, and Chrysler, KIA VS Honda, Toyota, and VW is what I see in the short term.
-
In the Long term I can see, Hyundai VS Lexus and Benz, KIA VS Audi and Cadillac.
-
I also think that the 3 trims we offer on Hyundais at first cars will ve more distinctive. On to keep current customers, one to give current customers more goodies, and one to build our luxury brand and image.

2. Near Luxury-GS/GLS/Touring

Greg Says:
November 5th, 2009 at 7:48 pm
Ok, explain to me why we want to move Kia sales upmarket? Kia should never compete with more than Honda, Toyota, Nissan, VW, etc. I mean, I really like luxury too, but luxury vehicles just aren’t in high enough demand for Kia, either. Keep in mind that as Hyundai-Kia vehicles continue to add more and more ‘luxury’ features, we will soon see those features on all other vehicles as well. The standard features on all cars have climbed somewhat ‘together’ ever since car manufacturing started. Back in the day only luxury cars had an ‘FM’ radio, and you were doing pretty well if you had an ‘AM’ radio. Now ALL cars have at least AM/FM/CD. The majority of cars 18k+ have satellite radio, too.

Not a great idea…
*Hyundai = should go to direct Toyota/Honda competiotor
*Kia = should go to Apple computer-like car maker. (more innovative, creative)
Kia vehicles supported by Hyundai engineering. So, don’t worry about quality control.
Therfore, I think Kia can approach to more “creative, innovative” way.
Hyundai remain as “conservative” brand.
I think Kia should go to apple computer-like vehicles.
(But, don’t follow toyota scion’s step. because scion vehicles are silly and ugly.)
Kia is a luxury? ommmm. no.
Kia can’t be a upmarket brand in now. Many people still remeber “Ford aspire”(lowest price car in that time).
Hyundai create another “luxury” brand.
—————————-
And, I feel better vehicle name as “soul, cee’d, kee, kue, koup”
How about this vehicle name as ‘Kia Key’?

I am pretty sure that the ‘K5′ will no longer be called Magentis, but it will definitely be called Optima in the USA. For the same reason that the Sorento will retain its name. People. connect the name Optima with Kia, just like people connect Sorento with Kia.

Scion’s aren’t for everyone, baby. However, I was deep in love with both the Scion xA and the Scion tC. I test-drove both and almost bought a Polar White 2006 Scion xA with a 5-speed stick, foglights and factory i-Pod connector. I loved the test-drive, asked my son who was sitting in back how he was digging the ride. How much room he had for his legs, etc. His reply looked jaded by my wife’s anger that we were in Idaho Falls test driving a little foreign squirtplug while she was back in Pocatello slaving away at her job. So she wasn’t on-board for that purchase at all. We drove a Pepper Red 2001 Kia Sportage 4X4 at that time which my wife adored(and still does). Twas a better fit for cold, windy and snowy Pocatello, ID, the Sportsman. I also test-drove a 2005 Scion RS 1.0 tC in Absolutely Red, 5-speeds. That thing’s exhaust was tuned to growl in a foreign coffee-can manner, not uncool in any way mind you, just not powerful sounding. More of a showy display of pseudo-power. But the car was cool looking with it’s red and black theme throughout. Wanted 4 doors so that one was out. Was thinking of pulling the trigger on the white xA, though. Glad we hung on to the Sportsman 4X4 and traded it for the ’08 Lancer GTS, in the end. Kia just continues to amaze me, though. Anyone else starting to think H/K is going to hit #1 in the world by about 2015 or so? Don’t get hung up on the year, just humor me by saying VW will be #1 by 2016. Or words to that effect.

As of Today’s sales Figures VW has become #1 in global sales.
-
Back to business, speaking about VW, I have a little story. Once upon a time after war a German Make came over to the US with weird looking vehicles. It was Called Volkswagen. In the Beginning the VWs were crude little rattletraps. Its main factories were only 10 Miles from the Communist side of the border. VWs reliability and quality exceeded its rivals by the 1980s and by the 1990′s It decided to go “Upmarket.” Look at them today, they once made Econo cars and now they make near luxury cars.
-
A Familiar story is happening to another country whos main factories are 20 miles from the communist border.
-
Hyundai is a low cost upmarket company whether you like it or not. They will take Chrysler’s spot in the US as the Affordable Luxury cars, while competing with Mercury. They benchmark Lexus, but they are targeting Mercury, VW, and Buick. Which by the way, all of them in some way or another have inferior products to Hyundai. Inferior: Quality, Reliability, Design, Fit and Finish, Fuel Economy, Horsepower to weight ratios, etc….The Sonata makes the Sebring look like a joke, but its ok to call the makers of the Sebring a “Luxury Company” while Hyundai has to be relegated to make Econo cars? By the way, a most of models only have a $4500 or less difference to Chrysler or Buick.
-
What the Fuck man?
-
There’s not enough room in the market for:
-
1. 2 Yaris Competitors from the same brand
2. 2 Corolla Competitors from the same brand
3. 2 Camry Competitors from the same brand
-
etc, I can go on and on.
-
That stupid shit about these two brands competing against each other is so, well fucking stupid. WHY, WHY, WHY, would 2 brands that are from the same company compete with each other for what, MUTUALLY ASSURED DESTRUCTION????
BJD (Boris) Says:
November 6th, 2009 at 8:03 am
VW sucks in reliability and so do many car makes’, in their “empire” like Audi. VW and audi’s designs are rather bland (except for the R8 but even thts still quiet conservative!) I dont find VWs apealing in any way…
HyundaiSmoke Says:
November 6th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
But Boris, Peter Schreyer is putting in that conservative yet sporty yet modern image into KIAs. That’s exactly why I say KIA has the potential to go upmarket to sell lower cost luxury vehicles like VW over the long run.
-
Id Actually drive VW/Audis if I wasnt loyal to our company, Their reliability is getting better, but still not as good as KIA, and definately not as good as Hyundai.
-
I actually think the Gen crop of Hyundai/KIA cars for the NKAC Market are better than Audi/VW. If youre in the markt for an “Audi-Like Car” but with good MPG, why shouldnt they consider the lower cost Hyundai without all of the complicated tech that breaks down?
-
By the way the VW Makes as a company will get even more reliable as they are now using Hyundai/KIA computer systems, chips, and other electronic components from Hyundai Mobis.
-
Mercedes was 21 st place in reliablity, now with our electronic components in their cars they are tied in 3rd place iwth Hyundai.
HyundaiSmoke Says:
November 6th, 2009 at 12:15 pm
By the way did you hear that Hyundai/KIA is creating a system that wil be GM’s OnStar, or Ford’s Sync?
-
The First products that will get it will be Equus and Genesis next year, and then after that they will get into the smaller cars, and also KIA will get a taste of it too.
-
An announcement is coming soon, as they havent named the system yet..
Scott Says:
November 6th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
The Ford Sync type system will be available later this summer according to sources. Sync is Fords name for the system so Hyundai-Kia will have to call it something else.
Greg Says:
November 6th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
That is exactly my point right now. Hyundai and Kia need to be in different markets. Kia needs to be ‘upmarket’ econo, and compete with the basics. Hyundai does need to go upmarket because it doesn’t make since to put the SAME CAR up against ITSELF. It is a waste of money. The Optima and the Sonata are the same thing. Why does the Optima compete against the Sonata. Hyundai needs to go for Audi, Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti. There are definitely markets for the more expensive cars. If you want to know what I’m talking about, just go to almost any major metropolitan center in the USA. In Chicago particularly, almost every car you see is an Acura or a Lexus. The prev-gen MDX is EVERYWHERE. That is who Hyundai needs to compete with.

HyundaiSmoke-your statement I pasted above is a reflection of how VW is improving of late. I have a story on a 1-person car they’ve created that they intend on selling in 3rd world countries or developing countries as a decent alternative to bicycles. Blew me away.
Even though I loved my Dad’s baby blue ’66 VW Fastback and learned how to drive stick in that car, I have never even once remotely considered purchasing my own VW of any generation or flavor. You know why? Because of their crappy reliability recored, mainly their electronics. Now, because they’re using Hyundai Mobis electronics, MAYBE that will change. For some reason, I don’t really think it will. But people need to see change over time before they’ll gain confidence in them. I don’t worry about Mitsubishi or Kia automotive electronics at all.

Many (all) of the above comments seem to apply strictly the US. In Europe however our expectations are different. And yes down here VW’s are considered more relyable than Kia/Hyundai. We have a strong tradition of Diesel engines and as far as these are concerned Hyundai and Kia still have a very long way to go in fuell efficiency and CO2 emissions… The fit and finish is not at the same level of german produced cars and the materials used are inferior…
I like Kia a lot, they make very nice cars, but let’s be realistic ’bout it: for now let them stick to what they do best: make fun, relatively affordable and cheerfull cars!

P, The Sonata, Elantra, Accent should undercut Audi, MINI, and Lexus, while keeping Executives from American Near Luxury Brands like Mercury and Buick up at night shitting bricks. As I said as Chrysler goes upmarket even higher Hyudnai will have a nice hole in the market to walk on right into. Affordable near Luxury cars for the masses, but with superior Hyundai Reliablity and Fuel Economy. The Genesis Stuff, the Sedan, the Prestige (Equus), the Future Genesis Truck, should undercut Benz while keeping Cadillac up at night and shitting bricks.
-
The US is a Perfect Market for an Upmarket Hyundai. We have too many econo Cars, and too many overpowered Sport Sedans with no Fuel Econ. With the right fit and Finish Hyundai can be a player with lower prices and better fuel economy than the established Near Luxury/Luxury brands. This will also serve to help KIA as Hyundai will learn a few things that KIA will e lucky enough not to learn for the future. Lets be real, with this Optima, the Cadenza, Borrego I think KIAs long term intentions is to go upmarket in the states too.
-
Did I mention that The American Car Magazine “Car and Driver” took a special trip over to Europe just to test the Hyundai i20 against the Audi A2. They say the Hyundai i20 is a good first attempt at a Luxury small car for the brand, and that the Audi might be more refined, but the Hyundai i20 is the better Value?
-
In respose, Hyundai North American CEO John Krafick stated that the Next Gen Accent sold in the US wil be even better than the i20.
-
Hyundais will sell big time here if they go upmarket as they are doing these essential things:
1. Keep a low cost value trim of all models to retain customers, and attract more value oriented customers.
2. Keep a Near Luxury Trim for all models for those current customers who want more goodies and attract more customers.
3. Have a True Luxury Trim that will bring in new Customers leaving SAAB, Volvo, Acura, Mercury, etc… seeing that they can get more for less, and keep some current customers very happy who are ready to move to luxury.
-
We have the plan, watch youll see.

If the economy gets better, Hyundai and Kia should reconsider building pick up trucks. But really Kia should because I think they build better bof trucks than Hyundai did. If not than why is the Hyundai Terrican dead and Kia moved it’s bof from the Sorento to the Borrego?
Sure GM is copying off the Koreans by not having the Traverse not look like the Enclave just like how the Veracruz doesn’t look like the Sorento (but the rear pillar that’s found in like 10 others SUVs) but GM’s not doing a real good job at it like the koreans are doing. GM doesn’t even focus on the Koreans it’s too focused on Toyota and Honda. If they don’t notice the Koreans soon, they soon they’ll need another bailout.
It seems that now that Hyundai and Kia managed to have a plant in the US, GM would have took them seriously by now. By the time GM notices them, it’ll be too late. It what really doesn’t make since is they really think the Cruze is going to be better than the Civic and Corolla and forgeting the Kia Forte like it does not exsist. I know GM didn’t forget the Cruze is really a South Korean product and Hyundai and Kia out sell Daewoo. From what I read, many journalist don’t like the cruze much.

That’s right, Greg, and Mitsubishi relies on it’s parent Comany(shipping is a huge one for Mitsu)to keep them afloat financially. And really, if you ask the inner circle at Mitsubishi, I’m thinking that they would want to stay independent. They wouldn’t want anyone telling them what they have to do. Hyundai worker? I don’t think so.
1. There is absolutely NO reason that hyundai buy Mitsubishi. Even Hyundai did not buy chrysler, volvo, and any other upscale brands. If I am a Hyundai, I put money to R&D than M&A. Hyundai is NO need econo or mediocre brand. Hyundai just need a new “luxury” brand in now.
2. Hyundai will NOT be a luxury brand itself. Because, Like ‘P’ mentioned, for example, moving the Hyundai Sonata from a 26k/monthly sales category (Toyota Camry) to a 3k/monthly category (Lexus ES) makes super fvcking nonsense. Hyundai have numerous factories in world wide. These factories must have plenty of produce volume. Think about it. Do you think Hyundai can keep these factories by small Luxury vehicle sales? Hyundai US plant (alabama) can operate by small sales volume car like Lexus ES (3k/monthly sale)?
3. Future Genesis Truck? WTF. They already have a technology which frame based 4WD SUV platform. (like Kia Mohave)
HyundaiSmoke Says:

The Sonata doesnt sell 10K a month much less 26K a month, even at Hyundai record sales. The Camry sells 26K a month even when Toyota’s sales are dropping like a rock. We cant just make a Camry and call it a day we have to do better than that. Becuase the Sonata is and will never be the car of choice in that segment. The people who buy in that segment mostly want Camry and nothing else. The only way Sonata can beat the Camry is to offer the same stuff but for $7500 cheaper. The Sonata
-
The Camry outsells Sonata and Malibu put together, and then you want to sell 2 cars like the Camry from the same brand? Its overkill and doesnt make sense.
-
A luxury Sonata with Prices from $22k for a cheap model to $29K for a top spec model ould make the Sonata the only Near luxury D Segment of choice. We arent going for Lexus, we are going for: Chrysler, SAAB, Volvo, Mercury, Buick. The Only make that can give us a challenge in that near Luxury Segment is Buick and Acura. So, essentially Buick and Acura will be our direct competitors.
-
Luxury has 3 Tiers and then theres the super luxury segment on top of the 3 Tiers:
-
Super Luxury Segment=Aston Matrin, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Maserrati, Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc….
-
Tier 1= Porsche, Benz, Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar
-
Tier 2=Lexus (Will be leaving Tier 2 to go up to Tier 1) , Audi, Infinti, Cadillac (Will be leaving Tier 2 to go up to Tier 1), Lincoln, Acura (Will be leaving Tier 2 to go down to Tier 3)
-
Tier 3 (Near Luxury)=Hyundai, Buick, Volvo, SAAB, Mazda, Subaru, Mercury, Chrysler (will be leaving Tier 3 to go up to tier 2)
-
If the king of American Near Luxury (Chrysler) is going upmarket, then that leaves a big ass hole in the Market for a new Brand like Hyundai to take its place.
-
Facts:
-
Largest trade in for Hyundai Genesis=300C
-
Largest trade in for Sonata=Sebring
-
Largest trade in for Accent/Elantra=Pt Criuser.
-
Chrysler cant compete in fit and finish, fuel economy, or reliability. They were better as a upper tier luxury maker, in the past.
-
The Pt Cruiser is a Horrible and overpriced small car:
-
1. Plastics hard as a brick.
-
2. Handling around corners is as un-poised as the throw of a brick thrower.
-
3. It breaks down frequently.
-
4. Its very susceptible to rust in snowy winter climates like here in Ohio. (everything thats not painted rusts and seizes-up on that car, especially the wheel bolts)
-
5. It gets shit MPG.
-
6. The Seats are uncomfortable.
-
My Brother Owns one, but once he gets a few Grand saved up he will be looking at Hyundai.
-
We can do that Kind of Luxury that Chrysler does, its not hard to do, and we can do it for so much cheaper, with a more reliable and fuel efficient package.
-
BTW, Mohave/Borrego=Veracruz have 3.8 V8=inferior V8 to Genesis 4.6 Tau. Therefore, an upper crust truck with more luxury and power is needed.
HyundaiSmoke Says:

1. The Sonata is already price competitive with the Sebring.
2. The Pt Cruiser is already Price Competitive with Mid trim Accents, and Elantras
3. The 300c is already price competitve with the Genesis
-
Why cant we be a value Luxury Company too?
-
Now if we were to go much higher than that in Tiers, we would need a 3rd Dedicated Upper Luxury brand, but I dont see that for at least 10 years.

Why be a Toyota Competeitor when the Performance, Reliability, and Equippment in our cars already exceed Toyota?
-
Accent more power, space, and Equippment than Yaris. Did I mention that the Accent’s fuel tank is a gallon larger too?
-
The Corolla is a Joke compared to Elantra, just look at specs and options.
-
The Sonata is more Equipped than the Camry
-
The Azera is more Equipped than the Avalon.
-
We have beat Toyota already, 4 years ago!!
-
If we stay at Toyota’s Level we will never grow as a company, let KIA fight Toyota for now, and let Hyundai experiment with new Niches and markets. Hyundai competing with Toyota holds KIA’s growth back. In that case why keep KIA if we are always going to duke it out with Toyota. I dont know about you, but I want KIA to grow?
-
KIA cant Grow if Hyundai is always barely a step ahead of Toyota. KIA would have to be a Step Behind Toyota by default, and with KIAs prices lately KIA cant compete that way. The Yaris and Rio cost the same the Forte and Corolla are the same price, camry and Optima are the same price. The Only Value is Forte. But a Yaris is a Better buy over a Rio, a Camry is a better buy over an Optima, and thats becuase Hyundai/KIA played it too safe with KIA for years. KIA doesnt deserve that from us, they deserve more.

Let Hyundai go upmarket, that is a damn good idea!! What I’m saying is why should Kia go so far upmarket?? The current Accent is a joke anyway. How it beats anything with its worthless cast-iron block and poor fuel ecomomy and poor HP and torque is beyond me. How they sell that dinosaur (yes, I’m including the equally as worthless Rio) is a Hyundai miracle. At least the Rio got a mini-makeover. Why would Hyundai would keep the ‘horizontal butt’-faced design of the Accent when the company is capable of producing beauties such as the K5?
HyundaiSmoke Says:
November 9th, 2009 at 7:10 am
Greg, because it sells well despite that. Also, we have to wait. Those 2 little cars will have a nice development going on soon. Id rather wait until the Next generation to get better quality, more trimmings, Better Fuel Economy, Better tech, etc… before Id have them waste it on some hastily project like the i20 and Venga. In 2013 that i20 and Venga will look very aged. If they stuck it out with the Accent for a few more years and did heavy Euro revisions on it, then they could have developed the No.3 concept to look more like a No.3 in terms of fit and finish. They could have gotten an Audi A2 Killing Hyundai i20 if they stuck it out 2 more years with the Accent.
-
Instead Hyundai North America, China, Korea, and Australia will get a much better Accent than the i20 as a car, We will get a Much better Rio than Europe’s Venga.
-
Relax, the Accent must be a good enough car to sell at least if not more than 4500 units a month constanstly. I think during the Cash for Clunkers month Accents sold close to 10,000 units. It was 9 thousand something. if more people could Afford them, gas prices get higher, and get more refreshes going, They’d sell 7500 a month, constantly.
-
I dont call 38 MPG in the 2010 Accent Blue with Auto trans a bad car. That beats every single car in that size class except for the MINI Cooper/Clubman in the US Market.
HyundaiSmoke Says:
November 9th, 2009 at 7:19 am
Fucking MINI, Bastards with the Unreliable Ratletraps. If they chromed up an Accent, which chrome pillars, grilles, wheels really brings out the lines and character of an Accent. It makes the Accent 10 times better looking. Maybe a special Accent Prada edition or something. They rule that class. The Mini with its shit reliablity, wouldnt touch the Accent.
-
I still think Clear Tinted Plastic (Piano Finish) in areas of trim and Grille would bring out a Rio’s Character better. I might find a used one somewhere and experiment on that too, like My Accent and its chrome.

Hey, I would pick the Special Edition #2 Kia Soul over a BMW Mini-Cooper any day. To me the SE#2 Soul looks hotter, it has a better Warranty, the price of the SE#2 is around $18,000 give or take several hundred dollars. For a rig with a cool color combo in and out like that that price is very fair. And you get the Long-Haul Warranty still. Mini-Cooper is looking dated to me of late.

Yeah, that’s the schmooziness of buying any BMW. Ya pay up the wazoo for the car then ya pay up the wazoo for it’s maintenance. Don’t even mention the word repair as related to BMW’s.
Scott Says:

If you can afford a BMW, then you can afford the maintance. That’s how I’ve always looked at it. Kia and Honda have low maintance costs.

“spy shits”? lol
Looks pretty good. I like the profile.
November 4th, 2009 at 12:33 pm
Yeah

There was a small spelling mistake! Sorry for that…
November 4th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
It seems the headlights resemble an audi but i won’t say much cuz i cant see the entire thing. I really hope it doesnt look like audi’s. the K7 has got enough comments on its rear lights totally resembling an audi’s. And how many ppl can one tell that Kia has an ex-Audi designer? i like the wheels in that day-time shot.
November 4th, 2009 at 3:51 pm
I think it will look better than Audi!
-
I’m pretty sure everyone will be amazed by its design. If you look at the prototype closely, you can see some really distinctive details, not seen on any Kia before.
November 4th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
What vehicle platform is the K5 off of?
If the K7 is an Hyundai Azera derivative, what’s the comparable Hyundai? …or what’s the Kia model that the K5 will replace (particularly in the North American market)?
November 4th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
this kias goin to be really unique, just like the new sonata it also has a chrome line running from the side mirrors up to the rear wind screen.which i think is fabulous.kia rocks !!
November 4th, 2009 at 5:31 pm
This very nice. I like this better than the very nice also Hyundai Sonata. Just look at thouse muscles it reminds me of 4 door Kia Kee. At least the exterior of the trunk looks like it came from the Kee. Kia K5 sounds a lot better than K7 or Candenza (they should have stuck with the Amanti name). Kia K5 I like that name. Lets call it the K5 until Kia tells us what the name is going to be. I like that it’s catchy. Kia K5. Nice design too they better come out with a coupe along with this too.
November 4th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
November 4th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
Wow omg, that’s going to look amazing. I think Kia should start incorporating running lights into their designs as they look amazing on Audis (which without them would look really quite boring lol). Plus, they might make it mandatory soon in Europe for cars to have them =P
November 5th, 2009 at 4:24 am
optima? altima?
confuse.
Kia should change its name. but K5 is an awful name. please don’t use alpha-numeric name in outside of korea.
November 5th, 2009 at 7:02 am
KIA Probably will change the name. See what I have been talking about Ya’ll. Its a no joke car. Like I have been saying it has a beasty Detroit/Asian/German Look. Sweet!!!!!!!
November 5th, 2009 at 10:53 am
I agree with you Smoke, the K5 has a very Germanic look, but at the same time, the car sports Kia’s latest distinctive design genes.
November 5th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
Isn’t Schreyer German?
November 5th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
Oh of course himi, I think Hyundai might bring KIA Upmarket too in the long run. KIA would be the Euro inspired brand, and Hyundai would be the Americo/Japanese inspired brand.
-
Hyundai VS Buick, Mercury, and Chrysler, KIA VS Honda, Toyota, and VW is what I see in the short term.
-
In the Long term I can see, Hyundai VS Lexus and Benz, KIA VS Audi and Cadillac.
-
I also think that the 3 trims we offer on Hyundais at first cars will ve more distinctive. On to keep current customers, one to give current customers more goodies, and one to build our luxury brand and image.
-
1. Econo-Blue
2. Near Luxury-GS/GLS/Touring
3. Luxury-SE/Genesis
November 5th, 2009 at 3:01 pm
We will keep the prices dirt cheap for the forseeable future as well. We can democrtize luxury.
November 5th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
@HyundaiSmoke
“I think Hyundai might bring KIA Upmarket too in the long run.”
—————————-
Not a great idea…
November 5th, 2009 at 9:58 pm
I am pretty sure that the ‘K5′ will no longer be called Magentis, but it will definitely be called Optima in the USA. For the same reason that the Sorento will retain its name. People. connect the name Optima with Kia, just like people connect Sorento with Kia.
November 6th, 2009 at 12:02 am
November 6th, 2009 at 7:23 am
November 6th, 2009 at 8:03 am
VW sucks in reliability and so do many car makes’, in their “empire” like Audi. VW and audi’s designs are rather bland (except for the R8 but even thts still quiet conservative!) I dont find VWs apealing in any way…
November 6th, 2009 at 12:10 pm
November 6th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
The Ford Sync type system will be available later this summer according to sources. Sync is Fords name for the system so Hyundai-Kia will have to call it something else.
November 6th, 2009 at 2:34 pm
@Greg
“Hyundai needs to go for Audi, Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti.”
>> Right – b/c moving the Sonata from a 26k/monthly sales category (Camry) to a 3k/monthly category (ES) makes so much sense.
November 6th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
By the way the VW Makes as a company will get even more reliable as they are now using Hyundai/KIA computer systems, chips, and other electronic components from Hyundai Mobis.
November 6th, 2009 at 6:34 pm
November 6th, 2009 at 6:49 pm

P, I saw that too, about Hyundai Euro Reliability. Its Strange that Euro Mazda is ahead of Hyundai, but American Mazda is in 20th place. Its also weird that in Europe Toyota is Ahead of Hyundai, whle Hyundai is 3 spots above Toyota in the US.

You know what Bryan. I actually think we will buy the rest of the 100% of Mitsubishi and use them as our Econo brand, or use them as a Tuning Division for KIA. In 5 years youll see.
-
Sorrento R, the Forte Koup is the KIA Kee.

-
P, The Sonata, Elantra, Accent should undercut Audi, MINI, and Lexus, while keeping Executives from American Near Luxury Brands like Mercury and Buick up at night shitting bricks.
November 7th, 2009 at 6:35 pm
November 7th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
Speaking of GM ignoring the Koreans, didn’t the Genesis make car of the year over the Pontiac G8? And they’re still ignoring the Hyundai/Kia.
November 7th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
We don’t need Mitsubishi as an econo brand. We have Kia as our econo brand.
November 7th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
That’s right, Greg, and Mitsubishi relies on it’s parent Comany(shipping is a huge one for Mitsu)to keep them afloat financially. And really, if you ask the inner circle at Mitsubishi, I’m thinking that they would want to stay independent. They wouldn’t want anyone telling them what they have to do. With the all-electric i-MiEV just breaking out to market, they’re gonna want independence in product and name all the more.
November 8th, 2009 at 12:13 am
Lets see if that Cruze reliability lives up to their promises.
-
1. They still are ignoring Hyundai/KIA becuase they hate the idea the same company that Makes the Genesis also makes the Rio.
2. They think we dont take the Accent seriously
3. It doesnt look good for our PR how we have been introducing a new car every 15 minutes but its a big car, in a world where small cars are looking better by the day.
4. They are still pissed about us not offering the Genesis V8.
5. They want Hyundai to hurry up being an upmarket company and KIA to hurry up being a performance company.
6. We arent cranking out the products fast enough for them.
November 8th, 2009 at 12:15 am
The Genesis Coupe V8 I mean.
November 8th, 2009 at 12:19 am
I saw a guy say that last night in Autoline Detroit. He said our products are stunning, I just wish they would crank them out a few monhs faster.
November 8th, 2009 at 12:20 am
Which is good, becuase that means they are really paying attention to reliablity, etc.. when they take a long time.
November 8th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
@ P euro 5? So what…nearly EVERY new petrol car is EURO5 (Soul is Euro4 by the way). I was clearly reffering to Diesel engines which are the most popular in Europe… the all new cee’d Diesel ISG is still Euro 4… Most brands have cars in the cee’d range with CO2 emissions below 100! the cee’d 90HP does not get below 115. The Soul is not getting below 137…
@P & HS Ratings do not necessarily reflect the average joe’s expectations and/or considerations…
November 8th, 2009 at 6:16 pm
hyundaismoke— do you WORK for hyundai? you seem to be full of such great info but i haven’t heard a lot of it yet… the Genesis truck!? what?! am i the only person who caught that? i see you post on a few other forums as well and i always read ur comments. ur probably the only other person i see online that knows the same info about HKM as i do honestly. But i get all my info from reading & studying up on it.

November 8th, 2009 at 10:54 pm
@HyundaiSmoke
November 9th, 2009 at 2:03 am

Joshy I dont work for Hyundai, but I look at industry trends and Hyundai trends, and product plans.

Why do you think Chrysler is going upmarket? One reason why, is becuase Marchiaonne sees Hyundai gunning for them from Below in that low cost Lux Segment. Chrysler can not compete with Hyundai, we spank them with our current product, much less our future product.

A Co-Worker of mines owns a MINI. She had to pay $75 just to get her fucking tires balaned. Her fucking tires, man.
November 11th, 2009 at 5:07 am
Yeah, that’s the schmooziness of buying any BMW. Ya pay up the wazoo for the car then ya pay up the wazoo for it’s maintenance. Don’t even mention the word repair as related to BMW’s.
November 12th, 2009 at 2:47 am
If you can afford a BMW, then you can afford the maintance. That’s how I’ve always looked at it. Kia and Honda have low maintance costs.
November 14th, 2009 at 3:29 pm
I think low maintenance costs are very important in a time of mass economic uncertainty. Lets be real the econ is fucked for the next 10 years, at least.

Umm…this one needs a French to English translation, man.
