New Kia Venga; engines, specs, dimensions, warranty, tires & wheels…

When the all-new Kia Venga goes on sale in Europe early next year, it will be available with an exceptionally broad range of diesel and gasoline engines. All of the engines are highly efficient units that provide a respectable amount of power and meet latest EURO5 emissions standards!

Diesel engines

Diesel power in the new Kia Venga comes from two four-cylinder powerplants that feature dsiplacements of 1.4L and 1.6L with outputs spanning from 75 horsepower to 128 horsepower. Kia Venga is also available with a choice of well proven 1.6L or 1.4L gasoline engines from Kia’s Gamma engine family.

Base 1.4L diesel engine is available in two variants, with 75 hp (low power version) and 90 hp (high power version). Similarly, the 1.6L diesel engine also comes available in two variants, with low hp version generating 115 horsepower, while more potent version produces 128 horsepower and maximum torque of 255 Nm.

The U2 diesel engines that are fitted in new Kia Venga have been designed and engineered in Germany and will be manufactured in Slovakia. The 1.6L diesel is already available with the cee’d, while 1.4L diesel propels Hyundai’s i20 hatchback.

The U2 diesel engines are fitted with latest engine technology such as high pressure common rail injection with a variable swirl control system, electronically-controlled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), a Waste Gate Turbocharger (WGT) or variable geometry turbocharger (VGT), and a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). They both have a chain-driven timing system, which means service intervals have been extended to 30.000 km or once per year.

Gasoline engines

Those customers who prefer gasoline engines over diesels will be able to choose between 1.6L or 1.4L gasoline powered engines. Both powerplants belong to Kia‘s Gamma engine familly. The smaller, 1.4L engine generates 90 horsepower and 137 Nm of torque at 4.000 rpm, while larger, 1.6L unit churns out a highly competitive 125 ps and 156Nm of torque.

Kia Venga transmissions

Buyers of new Kia Venga will have a choice of five-speed or six-speed manual transmissions and one automatic transmission. Manual five-speed gearbox is fitted as standard on all gasoline powered Venga models as well as on low-output (75 horsepower) diesel powered Venga.

Kia’s all-new six-speed manual gearbox will be fitted to Venga models fitted with 90-hp 1.4L diesel engine and both versions equipped with 1.6L diesel engines, while four-speed automatic gearbox can be ordered as an extra cost option on the 1.6 gasoline unit.

Dimensions & tires

Size wise, the all-new Kia Venga is 4068 mm long, 1765mm wide and 1600mm high. In general, it is a tad shorter than Kia Soul crossover but features longer wheelbase (Venga = 2615mm; Soul = 2550mm). Base Kia Venga ride rides on 15-inch tires, while larger 16 inch and 17 inch are available as well.

Warranty

Just like all European-built Kias, the all-new Kia Venga is also backed by Kia’s Kia’s award-winning 7-Year drivetrain / 5-Year (whole car)  or 150,000 km warranty, plus a 10-Year anti-corrosion warranty.

I’m still really really impressed with the interior of new Kia Venga, it doesn’t look cheap like the Jazz, Fiesta, Mazda2 crowd. Looks more upmarket.

Kia should put the Forte’s 2.0L w 6 speed manual / 5 speed auto in the Venga and sell it in North America. Diesel? Not for now. And yes, the interior looks great. Nice to see the Venga in blue too.

The venga it’s not for USA , It’s for Europe . The engines of the venga is 1.4 / 1.6 both petrol & diesel 75 – 112 bhp . It’s built in europe and for europe market only.

  4. Darren Says:

    September 19th, 2009 at 8:31 am

sorry the bhp of the venga is from 75 – 125 bhp

Actually Darren – the HP… as obviously stated in the article above…. goes to 128. Just saying…. So back to MY question…….

I personally think these models designed for europe and made in europe for europe shud stay there. cuz every next Kia is better than the previous. so whatever the next rio will be, it will be better than this.

    September 19th, 2009 at 9:16 pm

Lol yes it will – however, the us in the UK (and the rest of Europe) will get the new Kia Rio AS WELL so HAHAHA lool.
    Then again, we still don’t get the s t u n n i n g Kia Forte Koup -_-

  8. BJD (Boris) Says:

    September 20th, 2009 at 7:07 am

so europe gets the forte??? o.O
if not, then europe won’t get the next rio either cuz y’all have the venga.

  9. Darren Says:

    September 20th, 2009 at 8:00 am

Yes the forte comes in europe whit different name CERATO .

  10. forte Says:

    September 20th, 2009 at 12:51 pm

    kia venga is europe only

  11. JonathanLGardner Says:

    September 20th, 2009 at 2:28 pm

No the Forte doesn’t come to ALL of Europe – it does not come to the UK (because we have the Cee’d range).
The Cee’d replaced the last generation Cerato in the UK.

GM is trying really hard, but seem to be receiving negative response. I was reading the newspaper today, and there was an article about the new “60 day guarantee” commercial. It has received mostly criticism, especially because of that old guy in the commercial. It makes it seem like GM is an old guy brand (which, it really is). Also, I though GM was going to try to differentiate brands? GM has some nice looking cars on the outside, and they are BY FAR my favorite out of the big three. The major problem is that their interiors SUCK.

  13. BJD (Boris) Says:

    September 22nd, 2009 at 7:14 pm

lmao! 10 years, 60k! haha! the prob i have with american cars is while their designs are good, the engines are a turn off. and chrysler doesnt even have the design factor.

  14. JonathanLGardner Says:

    September 22nd, 2009 at 9:05 pm

Hmm it will be very hard for Kia to make the next Rio BETTER than the Ford Fiesta – not even GM managed it with the brilliant Opel/Vauxhall Cora. You have to remember that the Ford Fiesta has been the class leader for a long time…
However, with the i20 proving to the world that Hyundai/Kia can make a supermini as good as rivals such as the Renault Clio, Peugeot 207 and Corsa all Kia need to focus on is making the drive really fun and sporty and make the next Rio look STUNNING (like the Forte Koup) and they will be on to a hit – and a REAL rival to the Fiesta.

I just saw the American version of the next Sorento. It has skylight. They just shown the outside though. It would be nice if Hyundai lightened up and tried giving Kia diesel R in the states.

Kia say about 1 YEAR ago , Kia out two models to Shock the World , one of them the VENGA and the another is THE NEW RIO . I tought the new RIO ,it’s be a big RIVAL in the b segment . Remeber the i20 it’s a real budget car i’ts made in India .

Johnathan, the US Fiesta will be built in Mexico using almost slave labor=Eastern Bloc Build Quality.
    -
Did you hear what Chrysler said today, guys?
    -
They are getting out of entry level Luxury. They want to be superior than Cadillac and Benz.
    -
    GUESS WHAT??
    -
That leaves a big ass hole for Hyundai to walk right on into
    -
KIA will have to worry about Dodge as Dodge is Going up Tempo as well.

  18. HyundaiSmoke Says:

    September 23rd, 2009 at 8:10 am

Well worry wouldnt be the right word, as ChryAT has a lot to prove to Americans.

  19. OJ Says:

JTZ where did you see the new US Sorento?

  20. HyundaiSmoke Says:

    September 24th, 2009 at 10:18 am

But Johnathan people laugh at us when KIA says it wants to be better than Toyota, and Hyundai wants to be better than Lexus.Though, Unlike Dodge we are actually better than Toyota, and we will close that tiny gap with Lexus anyday now.
    -
Also, Johnathan Mexican Built cars of any brand are usually shit. The Nissan Versa and US Focus are 2 prime examples of it. These are good cars on most of the planet but shit cars in North America, and most of it has to do with being built in Mexico.
    -
The US Ford Focus has the most government Recalls out of any car in the C-Segment in history. Its had more recalls in the last 10 years than all of our Hyundai/KIA small cars have ever had put ttogether, and that Includes the Excel, and the KIA built Ford Fiestas and Aspires from the late 80s and early 90s.

  21. Greg Says:

    September 24th, 2009 at 1:10 pm

Isn’t the Focus assembled in Ohio??

  22. HyundaiSmoke Says:

    September 24th, 2009 at 1:34 pm

The Final Product is Assembled in Illinois, though a lot of the cars are Mexican and most of the parts are Mexican.

  23. HyundaiSmoke Says:

    September 24th, 2009 at 1:36 pm

The Colbalt/G5 and soon Cruze are the only small cars being assembled in Ohio. Though Buick is looking at assembling Astras at the Colbalt Plant.

  24. Thomas Says:

I hope Kia upgrades the quality of materials in the new Sorento – I am just about to read an article inWhatCar? (in which they have done an article on the new sorento).
One of the captions under a pic of the interior says ‘Dashboard has smart styling, but materials are below par’.
I find this to be a reeeeaaal shame. T

Well See Johnathan, we get the cars that are built to cater to Baby Boomers. Most Auto Companies that sell cars to America are out of touch with what American Gen X-er’s and Gen Y-er’s want. Plus, it doesnt help when population projections show that Gen X and Gen Y Will be poorer than the Baby Boomers. We dont exactly want what you guys have in Europe, but we sure dont want what we are getting now either. Hachbacks for example, young Americans will embrace them, but only if they are a little bigger than the Euro Spec Versions.
    -
American B-Segment Hatches or any B-Segment car should be the Size of a C-Seg hatch or B-Seg MPV in Europe. Heres a Secret, Young Americans like small cars but they cant be too small. The Toyota Yaris and Chevy Aveo are almost too small for American tastes. The Yaris and Aveo sold great in the beginning, but when word spread about how small their interiors were, Accents and Versas with their larger interiors spiked up in sales.
    -
Young Americans Also like C Segment Sedans and Coupes over C-segment Hatchbacks. We like Hatchbacks, but they usually have to be B-Segment Hatchbacks. B Segment sedans sell ok here, but most of them go to rental companies, and Baby Boomers. Most Young private citizens buy the hatch variants.
    -
In terms of D Segment Sedans, Young Americans want them to look like Luxury cars yet be the price of a Camry or even somewhat more than a Camry. Chrysler 300C Audi A4 and Lexus ES is the look that we want for a car in that size range. The 2011 Hyundai Sonata will be perfect for this.
    -
We like our SUVs to either be Silky smooth and elegant like the Next Gen Tuscon, or Futuristic looking man trucks like the Next Gen Sorrento.

  29. HyundaiSmoke Says:

    September 24th, 2009 at 10:24 pm

I think Hyundai/KIA unlike Toyota/Lexus is starting to address what young people want all over the world, and provide us with those products with our respective regions. Too bad the Venga for American sale is being over looked.
    -
Johnathan the materials are fine in America for a Truck in that price range. The American Jourinals love the materials in all of KIAs new Products. Its not supposed to have soft tough everywhere. However, the Hyundai Tuscon considering its upmarket ambitions is supposed to have soft touch materials everywhere.
    -
Speaking about the Different markets Car and Driver Magazine really like the Hyundai i20. They say its a luxury small car thats leaps ahead of the Accent, and all it needs is a 5 Speed auto and to be a little bigger and they see it doing real well against the MINI Cooper and Clubman in America.

  30. HyundaiSmoke Says:

    September 24th, 2009 at 10:27 pm

Hyundai CEO of North America John Krafick said that Next Accent will be built on this platform with a different looking interior, and will be sized to American tastes. He told them if you really like the i20 youll love the Next gen Accent.

I know about the i20 – it’s rated at either #3 or #4 on WhatCar’s top 5 Superminis AND on their website its video review is one of the most searched/viewed on the site =)

Just tested the 1.4 CRDi Venga ’2′ EcoDynamics which I like very much apart from the under-powered engine.
We were promised the 1.6 CRDi 115PS 6 Speed Manual & 4 speed auto which would make the car almost (for me!) perfect. Is the 1.6 diesel to be fitted in the near future? If so when will I be able to buy one in London?
My other option is to buy the hyundai i30 estate (Comfort 1.6 CRDi 115PS) which gives me the right engine & almost the same space for a similar list price. Ok only a 5 year warranty (not 7) but hyundai gives 5 years breakdown too!
The big attraction with the i30 is a whopping £4000 off the list price.
Look forward to hear Kia’s thoughts.

Kia Venga ia available with 1,6L CRDI but as far as I know, not in the UK. Kia will probably bring it to the UK later next year. Instead of going with Hyundai i30, which is a nice car, you should check out the cee’d hatch or cee’d sw. They both drive great and look good as well.
