Exclusive Kia Venga video!

The all-new Kia Venga has been shown to a limited number of automotive media and press during an exclusive press briefing yesterday evening. The unofficial press unveiling has been held at Kia Motors European Design Headquarters, which is located right next to the IAA Messe where automakers exhibit their latest production and concept cars.

According to Jon Walsh, Senior Press Officer @ Kia UK, who attended an early-unveiling Venga ceremony, Kia has received very good reaction about its new Venga from gathered media. Journalists have been especially impressed by car’s attractively styled exterior, which was created under the leadership of Kia’s head of design Peter Schreyer and Kia’s European design chief Gregory Gillaume.

More info and images of the all-new Kia Venga will be released later today, shortly after its official world premiere (scheduled for 13:00 Central European Time). You can also follow our friend Jon Walsh who will be tweeting about all the happening at “Kia zone” in Frankfurt. You can follow Jon here.

Now, here is the exclusive Kia Venga video:

    Whoops, sorry that was unrelated.

The Venga looks pretty good. As I have said, it appears much better alternative to the Fiesta and Jazz. Especially in build quality on the inside and the materials used.

Autocar: “The Venga has been described by a Kia source as a “Rio Plus”, referring to the company’s budget supermini. However the new Rio, which arrives in 2011, won’t just be a smaller version of the Venga, which is based on the Soul platform.”

For what I can see in the multimedia library there’s no 6-speed manual transmission. :(

    The Venga’s engines aren’t that powerful – a 6-speed isn’t really necessary.

It isn’t about power; a 6-speed transmisson is a lot better for fuel consumption and cabin refinement.

The Borrego V8 has a 6 speed transmission, and it makes the V6 (5 speed) feel a LOT more powerful when starting or passing.

A SMALL CAR,WITH A V8,WHY!!!,IT WILL SUCK TO MUCH GAS….4 AND 6 CYL. DO THE SPEED LIMIT WITH “NO”PROBLEMS….YOUR VIDEO DID NOT SHOW OFF THE CAR ,ONLY PEOPLE AND BACK SIDES…..I THOUGHT THIS WAS A VIDEO ON THE CAR !!!!!

    September 15th, 2009 at 6:45 pm

Wow, did you not read my post? I said the Borrego, Kia’s large SUV. The only reason really to get it with the V8 would be features (LTD model), or towing capacity. The V6 is much quicker off the line, and there is a lot more passing response. As for the Venga, the car probably couldn’t move if it had a 6 speed auto! I think 1.6L is the biggest engine you can get in one.

Greg, I mean a 6-speed manual transmission. I believe the Venga will have a 4AT has optional.

128 to 75 ps power range and choice of four power plants

The all-new Kia Venga will be available at launch with a choice of two petrol and two diesel engines, mated to a choice of manual or automatic transmissions. All powertrain options will deliver lively, ‘fun-to-drive’ performance in keeping with Kia Venga’s persona, while using the very latest technologies to minimise fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. In EU nations, all engines will comply with Euro 5 standards.

Diesel power is expected to be extremely popular and Kia Venga will be available with Kia’s all-new ‘U2′ common-rail diesel engine, which has been designed and engineered in Germany and will be manufactured in Slovakia – especially for use in this important Kia newcomer and in the New cee’d.

Fitted with either a Waste Gate Turbocharger (WGT) or Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) for smooth power delivery across the entire rev range, this new engine is available in two displacements, each tuned to give two power outputs. The 1.4-litre version produces either 90 or 75 ps, and the 1.6-litre unit generates 128 or 115 ps – depending on the market requirements.

The U2 engine is already available with the New cee’d in 1.6-litre guise, but the 1.4-litre engine will make its debut in Kia Venga. Both these U2 engine are cleaner, quieter and more fuel-efficient than their ‘U1′ forebear, while still ensuring a responsive and lively performance.

U2 uses high pressure common rail injection with a variable swirl control system (up to five injections per cycle), electronically-controlled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), a Waste Gate Turbocharger (WGT) or variable geometry turbocharger (VGT), and a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to ensure it can meet Euro 5 emissions regulations.

To achieve optimum driveability, U2 has been developed to deliver best-in-class power and torque outputs over a broad rev range. Crucially, more than 90% of the maximum torque is available from just 1,500 rpm, guaranteeing strong and smooth acceleration almost from idle.

Maximum power is 128 ps at 4,000 rpm and maximum torque of 255 Nm is delivered across a 1,900 to 2,750 rpm rev-band.

NVH is well controlled and U2 engine noise has been reduced by 1.1% (to 92 dB at 4,000 rpm) compared to U1. Thanks to the fitment of a chain-driven timing system, owners will benefit from extended (to 30,000 km or one year) service intervals.

Fitted in New Kia Venga, the 1.4-litre U2 with Start/Stop (ISG) and the new six-speed manual gearbox emits just 117 g/km of CO2. This takes Venga below the crucial 120g/km threshold applicable for taxation purposes across European countries, meaning many owners will be able to enjoy paying reduced or no vehicle taxation, and free parking or other benefits, in some markets.

For customers who prefer a gasoline engine, Kia Venga will also be available with a choice of 1.6 or 1.4-litre engines – popular and well proven units from Kia’s Gamma family. The 1.4-litre version produces 90 ps with a useful 137 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm.

The larger capacity engine is similar to the unit used in Kia Soul and generates a highly competitive 125 ps. As standard it is mated to the 5-speed manual gearbox, and this is the only Kia Venga engine also available with a four-speed automatic transmission.

    Fuel-stretching technology across the range

In a ground-breaking first for its segment, Kia Venga will offer Kia’s fuel-stretching Start/Stop (ISG) system – which automatically switches off and then restarts the engine in congested city driving – with every engine, both gasoline and diesel, in the Kia Venga line-up.

Working in conjunction with other technologies as part of Kia’s ‘EcoDynamics’ package, Start/Stop (ISG) helps reduce fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions, enabling certain Kia Venga models to drop below the 120 grams per kilometre carbon dioxide output threshold applicable for taxation purposes in many European markets.

Other innovative technologies fitted to Kia Venga as part of the ‘EcoDynamics’ range include a power-saving alternator management system, a gear-shift up/down indicator to encourage an economical driving style and low-rolling resistance tyres for cars fitted with 15- and 16-inch wheels.

Fuel-stretching six-speed manual gearboxes for many models

Buyers debating which Kia Venga to purchase will find they have a choice of either five- or six-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions. A manual gearbox is fitted as standard on all models, with the automatic available as an extra cost option on the 1.6 gasoline unit.

An all-new six-speed manual gearbox is fitted as standard on three of the four Kia Venga models powered by the new U2 diesel engine. Made in Europe, the new transmission is lighter, has taller gearing, uses low-viscosity oil and provides a marked improvement in gear change ‘feel’ for a more rewarding driving experience.

Both the five-speed and six-speed manual transmissions incorporate several innovations, including triple axis gear train and multiple-cone synchroniser (on first and second gears), for faster, smoother gear shifts.

The automatic transmission for Kia Venga is a four-speed gearbox similar to the unit fitted in the European-made cee’d. It features an electronic controller, which monitors a range of parameters including acceleration, deceleration, engine speed and road speed, ensuring safe gear changes with excellent shift quality, and also adapts the transmission’s characteristics to suit an individual’s driving style.

Getting back to the video, the cameraman at one stage was more interested in the blondes butt rather than the car. I guess he’s got his certain priorities in his life….:-)

The video editing might not be the best, or to the taste of everone, but the car is there. This is the first view, for Kia-World, before anyone else. Would you rather be seeing this or not?

I think the Venga is a new world order for Kia – a design led product with amazing possibilities.

I really thing Kia has moved on so far in the last 3 years. How far will it go in the next three years?

The Cheapest Hyundai Accent in America for 2010 will have a 5 Speed Autobox, why not the Venga, as least as an option? 2009 is the last year of 4 speed Auto trannies in Hyundai B-Segment cars, at least give yall guys at KIA a 5 speed Auto Tran as an option in the B-Segments.

Then Again Hyundai is the Upmarket Fuel Economy company now, and KIA is the Performance company trying to build and upmarket reputation for the futre=Future Korean BMW.

Yeah KIA can kill Scion, I think it should war with Subaru too, and piss off Audi and BMW a little in cars like the Optima and Amanti. KIA will probably be forced upmarket in 5-10 years as Koreans and Americans love to drive Luxury. If Hyundai is tackling the Fuel Economy, Safety, and affordability side of Luxury, then KIA needs to tackle the performance and youthful side of Luxury.

With Toyota and a Resurgent Chevy and Ford around and the Chinese and Indians coming I think in the long term Economy cars will just not suffice for our brands. We would do better supplying the market with Cheap Luxury cars.

Throwing eco-friendly green cars in changes everyone’s equations, though. Though they aren’t gonna be for all Americans. That is already being expressed now, so luxu-performance and styling might win out as better “green” propulsion methods are hammered out. It’s sorta wide-open in the “green” tech. field right now.
