Sales of Kia cars in the States decreases 5 percent in June 2009. Kia Optima and Rio post the largest gains, with sales increasing 57 percent and 47 percent respectively. Kia Soul continues to perform well

Kia Motors America today released monthly sales report for June 2009, which reveals the company has experienced a 5 percent sales decrease when compared with the same month a year earlier.

Total new-Kia-vehicle sales for June slid to 26,845 units from 28,292 units sold last year, while its year-to-date sales stand at 147,404 units. Among Kia cars that experienced the most significant month-over-month increases were Kia Optima and the sub-compact Rio with sales increasing 57 percent and 46.9 percent respectively.

In addition to healthy Optima and Rio sales, Sportage recorded strong sales of 6,267 units in June, a 42.1-percent increase over May sales of 4,409. With sales of 2,811 units, Kia Soul crossover continues to perform very well in the US market.

Kia Motors is in the midst of a design-led evolution that is continued by the recent launch of the Forte compact sedan in June, followed closely by the Forte Koup, Kia Motors’ first-ever two-door coupe, which is set to hit Kia retailers later this summer. The strikingly styled Denim Soul special edition also was launched in June with more special editions rolling out throughout the year, giving consumers a unique alternative for even more personalization options available at a tremendous value.

Odd that the commentary didn’t mention the Soul, which is on par with the Rio YTD, but didn’t go on sale until 2Q 2009.

Well look at Rio numbers last year. They probably lost most of their sales this year to the Soul.

What is wrong with Forte? It’s been two months since the launch, and it didn’t even break a 1000 yet. Is this dealership problem or advertisement problem?

spectra has a $3000 national rebate and the forte has no incentives. people are buying the spectra for 4000 below invoice. At those prices people are not touching the forte.

I bought a Kia Forte SX. I traded it in for my Optima. When I took it out for a test drive, a group of teens in a spectra was in the next lane and waved and smiled. This car is very fast the 2.4L is and I still have to get used to it. Eventhough my 04′ Optima is a class above the Forte, I really don’t feel like I downsized in interior volume, trunk space nor features. They are very low on stock on the Forte and I was the first to leave the lot in a Forte SX since. I didn’t expect to get the SX I though it’ll be too expensive but it seems to have fit my budget. Oh yeah and I graduate from college next year so I consider this a future graducation present. It’s very very hot. And this is automatic. And the best part about this is it’s rare right now. I’m driving something different and not like something you see on the road every 30 secs. I think it’s so boring seeing the same car every time you turn the corner. I wish this car can stay rare (like the Borrego).

I think when the CARS program gets going good and gas prices go up any, Forte sales will take off, especially once all the Spectras are gone.

One other note: HKAG has again outsold Nissan in the US.

Mine’s is Titanium. I have everying eccept the leather seats and it was all under $19,000. What color is yours? Hey Greg da chajee, when you are at a red light and there is another car next to you and the light turns green, do you pass them by with your eco light lit? Meaning do you easily pass people by hardly touching the accelerator? I do. After all the neagative articles I read about the 2.4L Forte I don’t know what they’re talking about? My Forte is fast and loves to take off even with the eco light on. And I know the truth now that I own one. Lol, I own a 2010 Kia FORTE SX!!!

The color of my car is Bronze. But I don’t get it, I have an SX and Bronze color according to the brochure is only for the EX. But I have an SX. I wonder if someone at the plant goofed up and I’m driving a Forte SX in a color no one else has or the brochure made a mistake.

jtz, once the Coupe, Turbos, and Hatch Gets here, the dealers wount be able to keep a Forte on their lot. They will have automatic waiting lists. The time is now for KIA to do something crazy and unepxected. Maybe have a commercial with a guy in a race helmet driving a Forte on a dirt track squeeling tires doing spins going nuts, and then have the racer hand the keys to one of the parents in a young family. They get into the car, thus ending the commercial.
