Kia YN concept
As anticipated, Kia released the first teaser image of it’s forthcoming concept car which is slated to debut at the upcoming Geneva Auto Show at the beginning of March. The YN concept car belongs to the group of sub-compact mini-MPVs, a vehicle segment that has seen spurring sales in recent years particularly on European car market.
A stunning Kia YN concept vehicle was penned by a car-design guru Peter Schreyer and is expected to redefine the mini MPV segment by bringing style and cool to what is currently a bland segment of the new car market. According to Kia, the YN concept will feature a dramatic glass-roof treatment and will provide astounding spaciousness in a compact package.
The world premiere of Kia YN concept car will be taking place at the 2009 Salon de l’Automobile in Geneva (Switzerland) with the official press conference scheduled for 12.45pm. [Source: Kia] Find more information and spy shots on the 2010 Kia YN here.

This is another stunning concept car from Kia! Let’s hope production model looks very close to it.

This page has errors when I view it on IE. works on Firefox though. On IE, this page doesn’t scroll below the the last line of the article and so I couldn’t comment or read comments on it. and on the main page, I only see the YN article and nothing else. Its on IE8.
.
OK, so is that an indicator on the edge of the wing mirror?
February 6th, 2009 at 8:02 pm
Yeah the page isn’t running right on IE. I also use Chrome. It is running fine on there. IE another great product from Microsoft!
February 6th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Using IE and wondering why you get a virus is like leaving your front door open and wondering why you got robbed. I only use firefox.
February 6th, 2009 at 8:58 pm
So how do you like the concept car?
February 6th, 2009 at 9:37 pm
I like it a lot, based on what I can see, but will it be offered in North America?
February 6th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
very nice. i hope they keep the turn signal where it is. it’d also be nice on other models (i.e. koup, soul, spectra/forte)— maybe in the future after a refresh.
February 6th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
Only in Europe I think.
February 6th, 2009 at 11:01 pm
Off-topic: Problem solved, now you should not have any problems commenting even if you use Internet Explorer 8!
February 6th, 2009 at 11:44 pm
The Soul is incredible and this looks as cool, I like those wheels, looking forward to more pictures.
February 6th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
works fine on my IE 8.
Wonder if this might be a possible future replacement for the Rondo if its a MPV, kind of hard to tell from this one drawing, mind you North America tends not to get a lot of the interesting vehicles that Europe seems to get – case in point the Cee’d.
February 7th, 2009 at 12:39 am
Nice concept. I like what I see so far. This would make a great Matrix rival if it was scheduled for N. America.
February 7th, 2009 at 12:51 am
It looks very near production vehicle to mee. I understand that we won’t see the LEDs at rear and those alloys-also look to funky for a production vehicle, but other than that, will probably make it to production.

Even when you compare it to some prototypes that have been caught while testing, it has the same lines and shapes. So this is actually a production car, with flavoured with a concept form (details).
February 7th, 2009 at 1:41 am
Could it be like a shrunken down Cee’d?, the same way the i20 looks to the i30. Well that’s what it looks like to me anyway. Looking good as always!

O-T: I also use Chrome.
February 7th, 2009 at 7:02 am
saw this yesterday on edmunds insideline and i must say i was very impressed (apart from the white/chrome wheels). it looks a LOT like the honda fit and you can see how far the headlight extends up onto the bonnet… cant wait to see what the production version will be like!!!
February 7th, 2009 at 10:25 am
Pat: I hope this will look a lot more attractive than Honda Fit!!
February 7th, 2009 at 11:23 am
haha yeah im sure it will be! schreyer hasnt let ANYONE down yet (Volkswagen AG) and i dont think he’ll be starting anytime soon. thats why hes one of only 3 people to be recognized in the auto industry by the royal college of art with an honorary doctorate (the other two being design LEGENDS guigario and pininfarina)
on another note, does anyone ever wonder what happened to the kee concept???
February 7th, 2009 at 3:12 pm
y? the kee concept was just to show the world the ideas Kia will be using on their future cars
February 7th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
I saw this vehicle and actually sat in it in Korea, at the Hyundai-Kia R&D center. It is a beautiful vehicle, but it will be produced at the European Plant, meaning that some regions will not be able to order and/or sell it.

Andy: How’s the interior design like?
February 7th, 2009 at 6:56 pm

February 7th, 2009 at 7:00 pm
Andy do you work for Hyundai Kia?
February 8th, 2009 at 12:51 am
Himi, do you know if we will see some teasers of the new Sorento since it will be in Geneva too?
February 8th, 2009 at 4:36 am
JTZ: Kia has announced that the Sorento won’t be ready in time for Geneva, so they have pushed it back to new york.
February 8th, 2009 at 10:43 am
JTZ: Sorento unfortunately won’t make it to Geneva, but will debut at Seoul Auto Show in May.

From what I can see, this should be another winner for Kia. I am frustrated though that so many nice cars NEVER make it to the United States. Can anyone explain the marketing think on these decisions? It is like saying to the American consumer, “Sure, we build really nice, fuel efficient cars for the rest of the world, but no no no, YOU can’t have them.” This is not just Kia, Ford does it as well. It irritates me as a consumer. Sure, the auto market in the US is pretty flat right now, but the way to perk it up is to get us the cars we would really like to buy.
February 8th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
YN will be manufactured by the HYUNDAI sister plant in Nošovice, Czech Rep., which happens to be mere 50 miles away from the Kia’s Slovakian plant, connecting roads and tracks in place. The production has been confirmed to start in autumn 2009. Recently their local spokesperson has re-confirmed a group of workers have been already sent for YN-training to Korea and the company are accelerating the preparations to be able to launch production maybe in June-July. No telling here if they are considering supplying outside Europe/Asia. It’s up to you to check from your side of the Atlantic.
February 9th, 2009 at 4:00 am
Wow, the sorento has to be delayed again for view? That must be one heck of a crossover. This certainly is no rush job unlike most of these other CUVs coming from GM so I KNOW this next Sorento is going to be good in performance and quality. Hyundai/Kia has a very good R&D department. I really like the YN too so I’m still looking foward to the Geneva Auto Show. So the VG, YN and XM are still not ready.
February 10th, 2009 at 2:33 am
I just saw a sketch of the next Hyundai Tucsan. It is going to Geneva too as a concept.

Off Topic: Rumors of the Soulster will make it to production.
February 11th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
If anyone hasn’t seen the soulster’s possible production looks on Kia Buzz then click on my name; its linked to it
February 13th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
LOOK, I have found a picture of the interior!!!!
I know it’s Kia because you can see the distinctive steering wheel, not only featured on the Soul but on the Forte also.

The wheels of this Kia YN concept car look awesome against that gunmetal grey color on the car! Can’t wait to see the production version. Hey Kia, think about making an all-electric out of this one and you may have a current Mitsubishi customer come back over to Kia Motors for their next purchase. I’m already a long-time Kia fan, but I want to have an all-electric for my next rig! BYD is bringing a car from China called the e6 to the U.S., as well as an Italian-French collaborative effort called Pininfarina-Bollore, bringing a small 4-door called the B-Zero here. I like both of those enough to buy them if the test-drive goes well. But I would love to get a Kia again, although I want a “greenie”-mobile next. Please come up with an all-electrically-driven small car Kia!
