kia-forte-spy-1.jpg

These are the very first spy shots of the 2010 Kia Forte/Spectra coupe! We have been waiting for a very long time to see the first XK prototype, and finally, the stylish two-door Kia coupe has hit the streets.

Codenamed XK, the two-door Kia coupe has been first shown as a KOUP concept vehicle at New York Auto Show last year. With it’s attractive exterior form, the concept car gained a great response from auto show visitors and automotive press, therefore it was only a question of months when Kia brings it to production.

As we see here, the XK coupe retained the general exterior shape from KOUP concept, but most likely, production model will receive a few mild styling tweaks to differentiate it from the show car.

A wide range of engines will be available when the car is launched, starting with a 1,6L diesel, generating 128hp (Korean market only). Petrol power will come courtesy of a pair of four-cylinder engines (2.0L and 2.4L). Later, a sporty variant with a 2.0lL turbo engine is also likely to appear.

There is still no word yet on a release date for the new Kia XK coupe but if these pictures are anything to go by it shouldn’t take too long. But according to some rumors spreading around, we can expect the XK coupe to hit the showrooms sometime by the end of the year.

With the car sitting next to it, it throws off rear a little. The overal all look is very similar to the concept though

OOOOOOOOO. that’s why I felt something wasn’t right with the roof. that car next to makes it look like its a rather steep d-pillar and long roof for a coupe. now, it looks right. :D

Very cool. But when will we see it stateside? Are there any Spectra/Forte sedans arriving on car lots?

  16. JTZ Says:

    February 5th, 2009 at 11:14 pm

Very simiular to the concept . Let me guess the Kia testers wouldn’t allow the spy shoters to take a picture of the front or back.

  17. Greg Says:

    February 5th, 2009 at 11:38 pm

The Spectra will be released in the USA in March/April. The Coupe is set to be unveiled worldwide in Paris, and in the USA it will be released at Los Angeles, and like the Rondo will basically show up on dealership lots the next day.

An ideal car for all you single fellas, all you need is a seat and a door each for you and you’re gal, or guy, depending on your preferences, and that’s it!! but very impractical for a family, or even if you want to go “4/5 up”, because it’s a fight who’ll get the front seat….WITH A DOOR!! But it’s a novelty, I’ve had a two door car before myself for a while, but I wouldn’t go back again. It’s the same thing with a manual trans, I’m over it.

  19. JTZ Says:

    February 6th, 2009 at 2:35 am

Does anyone know what auto show the VG will be shown?

  20. Greg Says:

Shoot! That’s the one I forgot to ask about. I’ll find out for you!

  21. Bryan Says:

Wow, those wheels look strikingly similar to my 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS’ wheels. Both manufacturer’s wheels for the Lancer and Forte Coupe/sedan look great. I washed my Lancer GTS and it is shining brightly in Rally Red, gentlemen. I’m happy for any of you who are longing for this Forte Koup.

This looks a little like the Alfa, not to sure but it looks as though there is something a bit off with this design

  25. BJD(Boris) Says:

    February 6th, 2009 at 10:10 am

there’s another car next to it of the same colour; thats why it looks like that.

  26. Greg Says:

    February 6th, 2009 at 10:39 am

Whoa, you are right! That is another car. For a while it looked like a lift-back, but now I can clearly see the other car! Weird, huh?!

  27. BJD(Boris) Says:

    February 6th, 2009 at 10:51 am

yeah, I also felt something looked wrong until colby mentioned the other car

  28. colby Says:

    February 6th, 2009 at 5:49 pm

I would love to see a lift back though like the old Spectra GSX. Nobody else does that anymore

  29. himi Says:

    February 6th, 2009 at 6:16 pm

Looks great! It has retained the shape from the KOUP concept. But of course, not every detail will make it to production.
So far, I like what I see.

OzyTone— very big of you to mention people’s preferences in your coupe comment way above. thanks. anyways, OMG OMG OMG OMG YAYYYY!!! i, too, had to stare @ the pics a while to understand what made it look so funny but its def. the car behind the first one. it looks to have grown a couple inches as well judging by the rear quart. window. i’m glad it also doesn’t have door-window frames. even more sporty. this car is gunna rock! i hope they keep the AWD option for the turbo & at least have a more outrageous interior than the 4 door spectra as we saw on the koup concept. i also wouldn’t hate kia AT ALL for keeping the name. Koup. i like it.

  31. JoshyLofty Says:

    February 6th, 2009 at 9:45 pm

PS colby, i also agree they should have it be a liftback.

Well, the Kue and the Kee were both purely design directions, never to actually become a reality. Although there will be some Kue and KND4 styling in the new Sorento.

  38. Kid Icarus Says:

    February 8th, 2009 at 12:58 am

The Kue was strictly a design exercise and was not intended to go to production….the Soulster on the other hand ;)

Greg- please tell whoever at KMA you are connected to that we (the USA) would like a cee’d. Actually, make that a pro_cee’d, a cee’d, maybe the cee’d SW, etc. But please bring them to the USA! I know the knew Spectra/ Forte is built on the platform, but there is no 2 door hatchback (the pro_cee’d) available to us through Kia. Thanks! :)
