Kia Motors America has announced official pricing information for it’s highly anticipated Soul crossover yesterday. Due to hit the Kia showrooms across the USA by March this year, the Soul will be available in four different trims: Soul, Soul+, Soul! (exclaim) and Soul Sport with starting price at around $14,000 for the entry level 2010 Kia Soul.
Official Kia Soul pricing information:
Kia Motors America, Inc. (KMA) today announced pricing for the all-new highly anticipated Kia Soul will begin at $13,300*. Even with the $695 freight charge included, Soul’s price tag of $13,995 is still under the $14K mark. And with all boxes checked on the highest trim level Soul sport, the vehicle will still come in below $20,000.
Recently debuted at the 2008 Los Angeles Auto Show, Soul will join the C-segment as an early 2010 model year vehicle and allow buyers the chance to truly personalize their vehicle with more packaging and styling combinations than any previous Kia model.
The 2010 Soul will be available in four trims: Soul, Soul+, Soul! (exclaim) and Soul sport. Soul+, which includes standard keyless entry remote, solar glass and 16-inch alloy wheels, will start at $14,9501 and top out at $17,100 when options including the Audio Package and power moonroof are included.
Enhancing to the Soul! will add the power moonroof, fog lights and 18-inch alloy wheels and will be priced beginning at $16,9501 and peak at $17,900 with all available options included. The Soul sport, designed for those with active lifestyles, will include side sills, a rear spoiler, 18-inch alloy wheels and unique front and rear fascias, and will start at $16,9501 and end at $18,600 with all available options included.
*Starting at MSRP excludes freight, taxes, title, license, options and dealer charges. Actual prices set by retailer. [Source: Kia Motors America]

Looks good. A deal maker or breaker for me will be trailer towing - at least 1000 pounds, 1500 pounds preferred.
A town/sport/recreation vehicle must be able to expand for family trips or tote a small boat or even a folding camper trailer.
Europe and Australia lets its small cars, Hyundai Elantra and Ford Focus tow. Why can’t we?
Thanks for listeninng!

Just thinking, at those sort of prices, I wonder whether it would sell well or not here in Australia.

About towing with the Soul. I have been towing a small 1400 lbs. camping trailer for years with our 2004 Elantra. I believe that Soul and Elantra share the same running gear. 2l motor etc. My Elantra is rated at 1874 lbs. towing. The later Elantra is rated at 1500 lbs.

BJD(Boris), Its just that if you were to do the conversion to AUD$ and add in the markup in price, it will be exceeding the Cerato’s price. I’m not sure people would want to pay that much when they could have the bigger more powerful Cerato for similar $$$.

Just a general question about car model years, why do the US persist in calling, in this case the Soul, the “2010 model Soul”?? when it’s only just January 2009???? I know, here for sure it’ll be called a 2009 model. What is it like in the rest of the world?? I know it’s a marketing ploy and the customer thinks,WOW!!! I’ve got a 2010 model car and it’s just into ‘09. I know the practice has started to creep in here in Australia, but at least it’s left to the last month of the year, not the first.

We got our MY2007 sportage in 2006 September. Anyway, Soul will be a MY2010 in US.

Ik drove the Soul yesterday! Both in 1.6 petrol as in 1.6 CRDI, the latter absolutely preferrable!

OzyTone- Your comment reminds me of the unfortunately defunct Delorean Motor Company (the DeLorean is the vehicle used in the Back To The Future films). Mr. Delorean reportedly didn’t like the idea of model years, seeing it as a cheap trick to move vehicles, with little to no benefit to the consumer. If there was a new feature or issue, the manufacturer might not change it until the next “year”, rather than making the change immediately. I know that GM has come out with vehicles as early as March for sale that are the following model year; the Borrego hit our dealership in August of 2008 as a 2009 model. The other option they can do is a “half year” model. The previous “new” Optima was released as a “2006.5″ model. This is actually annoying, as the customer doesn’t always know whether they have the older or newer body style.

Basically it just drives like a cee’d, which is not bad at all. But the more I see it in real life the more I like the looks of it! Our demo arrives on friday, so I will let you know more as sson as I’ve driven it for a longer period of time!
