Hey Bryan, We might have met. I'm not sure. I was an analyst on the BoGART team from 1990 - 94. Since then I've worked on many projects and systems in several companies and BoGART remains my favorite. What a great bunch of people - the analysts and the users too.

Glad you've made a good career for yourself in life after Boeing.

Cheers

My understanding is that the Soul will appear at dealerships in America in March. Obviously that might depend on where in the country you are. Maybe April for some areas.

Good going, Greg. No need to tell you to keep it up, sounds like you've got it in that subject. That's a worthwhile area to keep studying in, I can say that from experience.

I don't blame you. I would've moved to Arizona, too. The CAD program is AutoCAD 2002 LT. I have really gotten the hang of it. I have a steady 99% in that class.

Greg and OzyTone, I used to be a Technical Illustrator-Engineering for The Boeing Company in Everett, WA. It was similar to drafting, we'd draw up different tubing and wiring and attach points and structure for Boeing's 747, 767 and 777 jetliners. Great job to have, challenging and rewarding. But in the mid 1990's management had some trouble convincing us to dive in and learn computer-aided drawing. We had drawn in ink on mylar for so long. I didn't mind learning CAD, because, for one thing, erasing structure, tubing, and wiring went so much faster on the computer, it isn't even funny! We used a system developed by Boeing called BOGART, an acronym for Boeing Graphic Arts. It was a combination of scanned-in raster and we'd then use CAD vector for adding new lines in. Later we dabbled in CATIA. We didn't develop CATIA models(the different system engineers did) but we did download them in to our drawing frame and manipulate them to the orientation we needed them to be in. We would then make all the callouts active and move them where we needed to fit them in. There were plenty of opportunites to be creative, though. I was laid off in 2003 from that job and then implemented The Trade Act to get re-training in the medical field. 40,000+ of us were laid off from Boeing in that layoff in 2002-2003! I'm now a Respiratory Therapist in SE Arizona and enjoying a sunny climate, and helping scads of Arizonans get better from respiratory ailments and just try and cope with things like asthma and COPD. It is more rewarding than drawing airplane wiring and tubing...but if Mr.Boeing would've had me I would've gladly stayed until I was in my 60's and retired from there. Just twasn't to be, gentlemen. I like my job and area to live in now better, though.

Hi Greg, good going buddy. Just for a matter of interest what CAD system does your school have??
Now that's my forte, that's my expertise, CAD/CAM, both Computer Aided Draughting and Computer Aided Manufacture or Machining in my case. Most schools, I guess have Autocad as a starter system, which is good for 2D draughting.

3rd through 6th grade math books all had one chapter covering basic metric. There are elective classes I could take that involve learning in-depth metric, but I am not signed up for any of those electives. My electives for 9th grade are Computer Aided drafting, power mechanics, auto shop for the consumer, and entrepreneurship.

Good on you Bryan, I'm glad I've got someone with me on this. I know I wasn't going to say too much more about this subject, but it's funny that here in Oz, even the kids will say there height in feet and inches and their weight in kilograms. Distance on the highway is usually in kilometres, like the next town is so many k's down the road. So we are a bit of a mixture with some things, but petrol, milk, and even your beer is in litres and millilitres....no problem.
Thing that alerted me to the metric system having some substance and rationalization, was when speaking to a German friend of mine just before we went metric, he said, "1 cubic metre of fresh water weighs exactly 1 tonne or 1000 kilograms". So there's an immediate relationship between volume (length, width and height) and a weight of a basic substance such as water. Not the British/US measurement of 1 gallon of water weighs 62.5 pounds??...or was that a cubic foot, I can't remember. All I do remember was when at school you had to know all this stuff, useless as it may be, and the back of our 1 of our school books was covered all these facts on lengths, weights and volumes. I don't know about the US, but it was here.

Ha-ha, OzyTone, you're right, I work in the medical field and it is all measured in multiples of 10, 100, 1000 milligrams, etc. It can take a bit of getting used to, indeed. Jolly-good day!

I beg to differ there Greg, but I see where you're coming from. We used to have the same system as the US here in Australia, which is a British system of measurement. It took a while for all of us Aussies to get used to metric, now it's a bit of a mixture. But what could be more confusing with the measurement of distance for instance of yards, feet and inches. ie: 12 inches= 1 foot, 3 feet = 1 yard, 1760 yards = 1 mile, 5280 feet = 1mile and 63360 inches to a mile, and that's only a start. Let alone the rest of it, 16 ounces = 1 pound. Pint, quarts and gallons, it's endless.
Now metric is all multiples of 10, 100 or a 1000, but I won't go into it because you're not really interested and you don't have to be, unless of course you become a doctor or a scientist or a chemist, where it's all grams, milligrams, litres, millilitres and millimetres etc, even in the US.
That's the end on that subject, let's get back to talking about Kia's.

The USA has considered going metric, but it would be too confusing. I can't stand the metric system, I have no use for it. I am from the USA, so I have that bias.

kW, Nm@rpm and l/100Kms are fine for me (Belgium-Europe) as are kph (or Kms/h) and 0-100 km/h in "x" seconds...
Here you have a good converter...
