Mr. Michael Choo, an International PR Deputy General Manager at Kia Motors, was the nice guy who brought us through the “green zone” at the Kia stand at Paris Auto Show. Thanks to his video report we have been able to see and get some information on all four green Kia concept cars that made a premiere at the Paris Auto Show.

His latest video report shows the happening at the exclusive party, Kia held on the eve of the Soul premiere. The party was going on at the Salon du Louvre, one of the trendiest night clubs, in downtown Paris and hosted many important members of the Europe’s elite automotive media. Unfortunately we weren’t there, but Michael was and here is his exclusive video report.

P.S. Next time, we will join the list, you can count on that! ;)
Enjoy the vid!

Here is also a video from the official unveiling of the funky Kia Soul:

Wow, it looked a great and exciting launch party.
I agree with the German artist who said the Soul looks very Mini like. So if it gets a cult following like the Mini did back in the sixties, Kia are on to a good thing.
I guess for me, the thing to keep into perspective is that this will mainly be a city car, not for traveling from one city to another. I had a view of the Soul with the rear hatch opened and the rear seats up and there wasn’t much room at all for luggage. In fact you’d be hard pressed to fit a decent load of shopping in there.
Still, it looks a great looking vehicle, but I’m not too sure, if we get it here, if it would sell here in Australia. I guess it depends on the price and the engine and transmission combinations we might get.

The cargo area looks about the same size or bigger as most of the vehicles its size. The Soul is only about 160 inches and packs more passenger room and nearly as much cargo space as my 188 inch Toyota Camry, which is great on trips.

For whatever reason, there are some car people who call theirselves “enthusiasts” who feel like the new Kia Soul does nothing for them. From any angle, any perspective. Yikes, that may be the same person who chooses a Dodge or Chrysler or Subaru or Hon-duh or Toyota over a Kia. People come in many flavors and have many perspectives. Of the two posters on Edmunds.com I’m referring to, one loves old Mercedes Benz-ish cars, the types with fins. The other guy drives a 2000 Dodge Intrepid and also owns a GMC pickup truck, IIRC. Now, one guy is just an eglectic who loves old, dull Mercedes-Benz’. The other guy is letting nationalism cloud his judgement. Come on guys and gals, take a look at this new Kia Soul for a minute. This car is a wonderful example of someone designing a car with all of their senses available and in use. Fantastic vehicle for Kia, adding to a lineup of vehicles that already has it over pert-near every other carmaker as it is. By all rights, Kia should be overtaking big Bro Hyundai in U.S. sales sometime in the next year or so. But they won’t. Wanna know why? People are in love with vanilla. Not mocha chocolate nut crunch. It’s strange, but I’m afraid it’s true. My request to Kia and those that love them: Keep rockin’ on, my friends! You are the best!

I couln’t agree more buddy. People have a problem with exciting cars! I hate “vanilla ice cream” (I really don’t like it as an ice cream either). Give me moose tracks or Mackinac double-fudge-triple-penut-butter-bonanza(Kia).

I have two vanilla vehicles in a 1999 Toyota Camry and a 2005 Ford Freestyle. There’s nothing wrong with vanilla. :)

I’ve also become a big fan of Hyundai and Kia in the last few years starting when my sister-in-law got her 2005 Sonata. It’s been a fabulous vehicle. Since Hyundai didn’t produce a 7-seater until 2007 and that was out of my price range, I bought the Freestyle (the wife doesn’t like minivans so the Sedona was out), but I probably would have gone Korean if I could have gotten a Santa Fe or Veracruz cheaper.

I’ve decided that for the Camry replacement that I’m going smaller and bolder. The Soul is definitely high up on the list.
