Here is another (official) Kia Soul brochure that surfaced over on bobaedream website, and it reveals in full production glory the car that we have seen countless times over the past few weeks. These images, that reveal all the juicy details you need to know about the Soul, were brought to us by enthusiastic Kia fan and our regular reader Patrick. Thanks for the tip Pat! well there’s the answer to the mysterious knob. lol. “off, music, mood, on”— sweet! whats the “hi-pass” rear view mirror that i’ve seen in several shots!?
September 5th, 2008 at 7:38 pm
Kia is saving some money by using pix from previous shoots of other models like mohave and lotze. where’s the 142 hp engine in the spec sheet? anyway, its much clearer how the ‘mood’ knob works cuz of v can see the labeling ’round it.

i just noticed sumthin… take a look @ the 2nd pic from the left and look where it says “rear view”— the “H-squeeze” is in the back window. anyone else see it????
September 5th, 2008 at 10:22 pm
OMG! That is so cool!!
September 6th, 2008 at 12:53 am
hehe no probs himi…
wow joshylofty! awesome find! i can’t believe they’re using that theme so much… also, hi-pass is an electronic toll gate account, like the e-tag in australia.
September 6th, 2008 at 1:12 am
thanks. i’m pretty observant. i notice little things like that all the time. i’m the cow in the movie theater that sees the same car drive by 12 times or someone wearing a different necklace in the same scene 4 times. lol. its a gift.
is hi-pass a new thing or what? cuz in Dallas we have different tollways in which i have a tolltag for. i’m wondering if we even GET this feature if it’ll work for me.

I guess for the diessel is 15.8 km/l, thats about 6.33 l/100 km, thats way worse than the average consumption figures of the ceed of wich the motors are derived. Here in europe the 1.6 diessel takes only 4.5 l/100 thats about 22.22 km/l. The SOUL might be a nice car, but i guess its a step backwards to make motors less efficient nowadays, it would be cheap to buy, but it will cost a lot to run. Just one of those lovely 18″ tires cost a fortune (150 euros each). What about co2 emisions? here in Spain a car under 120 gr/km does not pay any tax appart from VAT, maybe they should conssider to make an effor in that matter, the ceed was so close with just 126 gr/km co2 for the 1.6 CDRI .

hi pass Is the system for Korean toll roads. As someone who has traveled the USA knows that the USA has all kinds of toll passes. Florida has Sunpass, Illinois has I-Pass, Dallas has Tolltag, Ohio has a credit card for tolls, Indiana has no “pass” system, nor does Kansas, and Pennsylvania and New York have EZ-Pass.
September 6th, 2008 at 4:14 am
Wow. cee’d's engines are really fuel effecient huh? well, cee’d has less air resistance compared to soul. I’m not going to get the 18″ers. we pay alot and they’ll wear out faster than normal profile tyres. I think I’ll take those ones in the middle. the broucher says their 17″ and the website says its 16″.
.
In dubai, the toll system is called Salik. which is an arabic word for ‘Clear’. they introduced it to keep roads clear so people will not use that road as they lose money. works pretty much like hi-pass with a microchip stuck under your windsheild and an over head toll gate reads the chip as the car passes. There are a few creases to iron out with salik as it just started one year ago in september.

That is how the systems I mentioned in America work. There is a little plastic box that is held in the windshield by Velcro. Ours is programmed into the Homelink. When we go under a booth, we press and hold the 3rd Homelink button.

look closely at the red soul in the third pic. its got a red dragon tatoo. guess the stips will be available in more than black and white.
September 6th, 2008 at 6:45 am
Boris, i didn’t notice the red dragon on that pic. good find! and greg, in Dallas alone we have Tolltag, EZ-pass, & the newest for Dallas is ZipPass but all operate with one toll “tag” which like you said is the plastic thingy i personally have velcro-ed to the center of my window by my rear-view. i’m just hoping i can use the hi-pass the Soul does/will have here. its a nifty idea. My car has homelink as well and i didn’t know the tolltag could be programmed into it, i’ll have to pull out the manual on that one.
September 6th, 2008 at 11:30 am
well, actually, this Electronic Toll Collection System is only available in certain Kias sold in Korea which EXCLUDE picanto, pride, Carens, Sportage, Sorento, Grandbird Bus and BongoIII carrier pick-up.
September 6th, 2008 at 11:46 am
I woder if soul will have the easy move option like lotze. for those of you who havent heard of easy move, here goes… Easy move is an optional feature on the Lotze Sedan sold in Korea, known as magentis/optima elsewhere. In this, the front passenger seat rotates towards the door when you want to get out or in for easy entry or exit.
September 6th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Did you know that in French, “Soul” means drunk person??
September 6th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
I could agree with you IVANHOE! The fuel consumption is really high for a diesel engine, espacially when compared to the cee’d.It’s not that I would be expecting to see record low fuel consumption from Soul, but the difference of almost 2L per 100km is (very) high.
Now, speaking of fuel consumption, it just came to my mind, that these numbers are most probably related to the 4-speed automatic transmission and when equipped with 5-speed or 6-speed manual, consumption should be lower by 0,5-1 L/100 km.
One more thing…I still don’t know, is the 2,0L that will be available in US market, the old beta engine or not? What do you think?
September 6th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
So, a four speed automatic & NO Steptronic for North America. There goes the fuel consumption. Too bad
September 6th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
w.wilson: this is the Korean model Soul. US might have different transmission!
September 6th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
I think sirius or theta. sirius cuz its being built alonng side sportage and theta is well… thats just what I wish it will get.
September 6th, 2008 at 7:58 pm
if it has a 4 speed auto i’m probably gunna chose the Forte over the Soul. 4 speed auto’s aren’t readily used much anymore. we shall see.
September 6th, 2008 at 9:32 pm
Himi, I base my comments on the Kia news release from 2 Sep 08
September 8th, 2008 at 12:20 am
That might be right himi, as im reading now, the consumption figures of the 1.6 CDRI ceed are, with the 4 speed active automatic take 5.9 l/ 100km, that would be 16,95 km/l and 155 co2 gr/km. HONDA has managed with its i-shift version of the new JAZZ/FIT get lower consumtion and better emissions figures than the manual model, even when the latter has very low nombers, its all in the managing of the alectronics, im sure KIA has the tecnology to do that also, i guess is just a matter of marketing. Other thing i would like to see in the Soul is interior pacticallity, the JAZZ although is a smaller car in dimensions, manages to get a FULL QUAD BIKE in its boot with the rear seats folded down (thats impressive).
September 8th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
I wish soul’s front passenger seat would go down like Sportage but sportage seems to be the only model in Kia’s line-up to have front passenger seat folding but now, even the new 2009 sportage doesnt have that feature I’ve heard.
September 9th, 2008 at 3:33 am
Boris are you saying that the Soul’s front pass seat does not fold. Or are you hopeing it does????
September 9th, 2008 at 4:15 am
there are 98% chances that it wil NOT fold cuz no other Kia’s frnt pass. seat folds. Bit too much to expect.
September 13th, 2008 at 6:14 am
my best friend wants a Soul in pink. maybe eventually she’ll have that option
September 13th, 2008 at 3:34 pm
In dubai we can DRESS our cars in any colour we want. yes. dress. The car is covered in a sort of cover that is like a strnog aluminium foil that comes in many different colours. the ‘foil’ is cut in the dimensions of your car and is tightly fitted on the car. when you have to sell the car. the foil will be removed and you can sell the car with the original colour which will still be glossy like it was from the showroom as the cover protects it from the elements. Some really outrageous colours can be stuck on with this technique.
