Heavily disguised prototype of futue C-segment Kia car was spotted in public again. While ongoing cold-weather testing, the future four door sedan was beeing exposed to unfriendly onroad conditions…and spy photographers at the same time.

Spectra successor, code named TD, is expected to diverge from Kia’s unemotional design theme, incorporating many design cues from the upcoming concept car, Kia is planning to debut, at the New York autoshow in March.

Next generation Spectra is scheduled for release in sometime in early of 2009 as a ’10 model. The first variation to roll of the line will be the four door sedan, followed by a five door hatchback later.

I like the colours we have seen so far (except the brown), I like both interior and exterior so far! Although we don’t see much of it’s exterior I can say this is going to look even better than the European cee’d!

The tyres on the red prototype are tiny don’t you think? Spectra had different (larger) and very good looking wheels on our previous spy report. Check it out here: http://www.kia-world.net/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/kia6.jpg

the larger tires appear to be on either an upscale model or a non-US model. if you’ll notice, there’s a signal marker on the fender; an option you see mostly on upper end models, or omitted entirely from the US lineup (i.e. most of kia’s lineup)

i’m quite excited to see both this new concept and the production version! looks to be the foretold satellite radio head unit in there????

I like the wheels on the yellow one better.

On picture number four, it looks like they ran into something and busted the window.

wow looks great i hope canada gets a nice model (big wheels, sunroof…)
it doesn’t look a lot different from the current one but enough that it is nice.
    nice find himi

To me it does look very different than the current one. It is more edgy on the outside and the interior is light years ahead of the current one!

I’m hoping for some future spy shots with less plastic around the body.

yeah, thats what I’m waiting for. I like the thread of the snow tires but the tire tracks are narrow.

It looks smart and cunning…rady to devour a Ford Verve and Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic. Once again, Kia has beat the competition.

New Spectra looks promising and should be a very good contender in it’s class. Let’s just hope that the production version of Ford Verve doesn’t look as attractive as it’s concept car. That could bring other cars into trouble…

What about Lancer? That car has grown, is very good and has a BEAUTIFUL design! In my opinion, Lancer is much better choice as let’s say Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla right now. This is the car, Kia should choose as it’s main competition and make it look, feel and drive better.

And there is also the new Saturn Ion and several other great choices, but as Bryan said, I hope Kia will have finally beaten the competition with the 09 Spectra!

    January 30th, 2008 at 12:45 pm

    O. yeah lancer is a good competitor. for sportage, they should choose Outlander. even though it doesnt seel so good, Outlander’s got some unique-to-the segment features like 3rd row seating and the tailgate in this link: http://vne-resource.iol.co.za/30/picdb/article2/6/a/97202
    and god off-road ability: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/EDITORIAL/editorial_images/non_imported/mitsubishi_outlander_mud_rear.JPG

Saturns are not popular here. IT shouldn’t be very big competition. Williams Kia about 50 miles away from here sold 15,267 Kias last year! That is just over 1/20 of all Kias sold in the US in 2007!

  17. himi Says:

    January 30th, 2008 at 8:36 pm

WTF…that’s more than 1000 a month!! Are they largest Kia dealer in US?

Well, Saturns are gaining on popularity. Their recent lineup has been very well accepted by customers and the sales is increasing in US . The new Ion, based on Opel Astra, should sell good too. It’s gonna be a good car and stiff competition to Kia’s upcoming Spectra!

the interior is same to the soul’s interior

  19. Dean Says:

    The interior looks real cool,

The side has a similar look as the actual spectra,

  20. himi Says:

    January 31st, 2008 at 11:14 am

Yes, the interior will be very beautiful! It has some parts, such as steering wheel, similar or even the same as Kia Soul will have. Other than that, the interior reminds me of that in Hyundai Veracruz.

himi…yeah, the new 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS, which I bought, just totally rocks. It’s everything, from the grille up front with the beautiful chrome piece surrounding it, to the sunroof, to the nicely shaped spoiler, to the front valance and how it wraps down the side of the car. And the chrome tailpipe and the sharknose headlamp assembly up front to the 650-watt Rockford Fosgate 6-CD stereo. I can’t find anything to fault on it for Mitsubishi. Well-proportioned, well-thought out and absolutely gorgeous.

Having said that Kia and the TD-Spectra for 2009 looks very nice and the Kia cee’d is an awesome vehicle. I vote for Kia to paint some of the ’09 Spectra’s that ’70 Dodge Challenger green color, eh?

  22. K-Sport (Boris) Says:

    February 1st, 2008 at 7:46 am

Do any of you think it will have a 3-door hatch version like pro_cee’d?

  23. Bryan Says:

    February 2nd, 2008 at 11:23 pm

K-sport, no, but I think that Kia will build a TD-2009 Spectra in a 5-door hatch ala Spectra5 mode. That would make sense and be a nice different direction for buyers to turn to.

  24. K-Sport (Boris) Says:

    February 3rd, 2008 at 12:16 pm

in that case, KIA SHOULD GET THE PRO_CEE’D here!!!!! >x

  25. Bryan Says:

    February 5th, 2008 at 4:49 pm

K-sport, apprently Kia will not bring the pro_ceed to the U.S. The new Kia Spectra-TD will be the next sporty small car to come to America. I can’t wait to see it with the wrappers off of it!

  26. Boris (K-Sport) Says:

    February 5th, 2008 at 8:41 pm

And I’ll have to wait a little longer for our unveiling in UAE.

  27. himi Says:

    February 5th, 2008 at 9:37 pm

Perhaps TD Spectra could come to UAE before it reaches United States.
The TD Spectra will be unveiled before years end at Korean market, acording to some Korean press.
So there is a slight chance it might reach other countries prior it’s debut (or at least at the same time) at American market.

    February 6th, 2008 at 8:22 am

maybe. I havent seen many models that launch here before launching in US. lats see what happens

Anyone notice the person in the backseat flying the bird? It’s the picture of the left side of the vehicle (the last of 8 I guess?) Our Kia district rep told me he used to work for Nissan and the drivers that would test the vehicles knew where the photographers liked to hang out, and they’d always fly the bird in the pictures of them. As for this Spectra, the color looks similar to the orange that the Rio and Spectra SX models, and the Rio and Spectra 5s get. I’m eager to see one of the TDs without all the black camo!

  30. Jason Says:

    February 9th, 2008 at 6:38 pm

Oh yeah, I noticed in the interior picture that the gear shifter appears to have gone to the style used in the Rio and Optima, where you have to lift up on the ring to put the vehicle in Reverse. I believe they both have Reverse at the top left position. Perhaps when the next era of Sportage comes out, it’ll get the same shifter?

  31. himi Says:

    February 11th, 2008 at 10:17 pm

Yeah, I have seen that gesture done by one of the engineers! : )
Those engineers testing preproduction prototypes must be sick of all of spy photographers taking images on and on…

The trim around the doors makes it look weird, the Koup concept does not have the trim.

another reason concept cars are cooler than production models.
