When David Curry learned in 2006 that Kia Motors planned to build cars in West Georgia he left Florida with his wife and young son and returned to LaGrange. He enrolled in automotive manufacturing at West Georgia Technical College while working at a pool company.
On Tuesday Curry, 48, was at the school filling out an online application for a Kia job – one of the first to do so. “It’s been two years now that I’ve been building toward this point,” he said after completing the one-hour process.
Kia, Korea’s second largest carmaker, began accepting applications for more than 2,500 jobs about 11 a.m. Tuesday. Officials with the company and the state yanked down a banner during a ceremony at the college to reveal two words: Now Hiring!
Over a period of four weeks approximately 11,000 people signed up for email notification on www.kiajobsingeorgia.com , according to Rodger Brown of QuickStart, the state job training program.
Kia will accept online applications through Feb. 7. It expects to begin hiring people in April. Jobs will pay from $14.90 an hour to $27 an hour.
A huge swatch of land along I-85 has been cleared for the plant. Construction cranes and vehicles dot the barren landscape. The state is spending more than $20 million to build a 70,000 square foot training center next to the plant.

Unemployed, thats the going rate for labor down there in them Mountains. They cant get away with it becuase of the economy, and the billions they are investing in R&D. I care about Social Responsibility and all, but KIA has to make the best products possible so one day, maybe you can make $20.00 an hour.

I think there are no jobs available. KIA is not advertising for line workers, etc… I think all of the jobs have been scooped up. There’s so many unemployed people in America there are 10 people for one job, and thats a best case scenario. My job advertised for a marketing postion and we got 500 apps in 5 days, and thats in a Metro Area with 7% unemployment. So could you inagine in a place like West Point GA wher ethe unemployment is 13%.

Well i have no experience in this sort of thing just as an usher in a theater the guy before me sounds like some one you need though. But I would love the learn newer thngs and gain more experience so I can provide better for my two year old and not have to leave with my in-laws anymore. I intend to take GED classes in May, because I don’t even have a high school diploma, which is bad for a 24 year old. I have until June until the in-laws boot me and my husband out so I’m willing do anything at this put as long as I’m working. Thanks from a desperate mother.

Hello, I hope this message gets to someone that can help me are at least give me an answer to my question. July 3, 2010 was my last day of the twenty-four hour training we had to go thru, and on that last day we recieved a letter stating something about the next level , but I have not heard anything nor have I received anything saying one thing or another. Should I assume since I have not heard anything about a job offer that I was chosen? I really do not know what to think can someone please give me some feed back. I really need to know something so I just at least ease my mind. I was always told no news is good news ,but I do not know about this will someone please give me some insight on this it will be greatly appreciated.
