Today, I was sent another set of spy shots showing the 2009 (or possibly 2010 model year) Kia Spectra replacement. The Spectra is certainly one of Kia’s most important products as it has been No. 1 selling Kia model for several years.

While the “old” Spectra still proves to be a great value, Kia engineers already began road-testing it’s successor model. Despite the camo attached, it’s clear that the upcoming Kia sedan, code-named TD, takes it’s styling cues from Kia’s KND-4 concept car. The automaker’s new design language set by Peter Schreyer will influence every aspect of the four door’s exterior with a clean and sporty lines.

Check out our latest spy shots of the new Spectra in the gallery below. More Spectra TD spy pics!

Wow – this is looking to be a great replacement. They should keep a nice simple hard line look like the knd-4. It will give kia its own style.

(micro 99) well all I see in the B-pillar is… well… its black. And as far as I know, the prev (which is actually the present) spectra also had black b-pillars.

micro99- nothing intriguing about it I just like the fact that it will have black pillars like Soul and Borrego.
K-Sport- did you see the pillars on the white Spectra? It’s pillars were white like the exterior. On this one, the pillars are not green their black.

It looks like the sedan version will be much more sportier than the current Spectra. I wonder when Kia will release this vehicle…most probably by the end of 08…

I work at a Kia dealership in the USA. The black pillars on this green model actually has green pillars, they just put a black tape over the pillars. Many manufacturers do this. If you look closely at the doors of your vehicle when you open it, you’ll see the tape folded on the inside. The white body TD just didn’t have the black tape on it. Also, the picture of the rim (fantastic looking by the way!) has a small piece of clear plastic on it. That is how they look when they come in off the trucks, when awaiting the PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection), where the technician removes the exterior and interior transit protection. I asked our district parts and service manager if Kia would ever bring the Cee’d, he said they wouldn’t because hatchbacks apparently don’t sell well in the USA, and the cost to bring a Euro-spec vehicle to American emissions and safety regulations is pretty expensive. Kia would have to sell enough of them to make profit over the cost of modifications. If the Saturn Astra does well, perhaps Kia will reconsider.

c- segment is a tough class anywhere. But the US has an influx of hatchbacks lately, Scion Xa Xb, Matrix, Vibe, just to name a few that have come up. Now with the Cee’d if it is brought to the us would be a modification of the euro spec. Hatch’s sell well enough in the US. I have sold tons of Focus Zx3’s and Zx5’s, and a good amount of Spectra5 and Rio5’s. Christ when the new Rio5 came out we couldn’t keep them in stock. The Saturn Astra will sell well and Kia will once again miss out on being at the forefront. But good times are coming to Kia for 08 I have a strong feeling. Our store sold 200 more cars than last year and we are going to be in the President’s Club for the second year. And our customer base has risen from credit challenged to good credit in a matter of 1 year.

But I have to disagree with the balck pillars. This one has black pillars, unless they went tape crazy on it. They will probly have black or colored pillars depending on which model you look at or color you choose. I hate PDI in the winter time. My hands were freezing yesterday peeling off tape.

  17. JTZ Says:

    December 19th, 2007 at 6:17 pm

That’s not tape. It is too neatly displayed to be tape over those pillars. The only tape I see is the tape that covers up the turn signals. But on the white TD, the trun signals are shown. Also the alloys are different from the white td as well. Just like Borrego, and Soul. The black pillars had different alloys then the models that were not black. Also, not only are the pillars black but the outline for the window is black but on the white one, the entire outline is black. (I know what I’m saying; I’m just not saying it right).

  18. JTZ Says:

    December 19th, 2007 at 6:19 pm

Mistake: Also, not only are the pillars black but the outline just above the window is black on the green TD as well but on the white one, the entire outline was white.

  19. JTZ Says:

    December 19th, 2007 at 6:23 pm

Also, another reason why I know that that is not tape on the b pillar is you see the handle on the rear door of the green car. It looks as if someone had just gotten out the back seat. Usually, if someonoe is seating in the back, someone must be seating in the front. Now to the point, if tape is over the pillar, the tape would come off because the doors were opened. If they were to press the tape back on, why didn’t they correct the door handle as well?

  20. Jason Says:

    December 20th, 2007 at 7:51 pm

When I say “tape”, I don’t mean in the sense of just putting black tape to camouflage this pre-production model. The tape wouldn’t come off when you opened the doors. If you own a Kia, check the pillars on your production version, it probably has some on the B pillar at least. Kia calls it “applique” or “deco” in the parts catalog. Some of the older black painted vehicles didn’t have pillar tape on them. Colby: I agree, PDIs in the winter suck! Especially if there’s any snow or ice on the vehicle, the white plastic tape ends up coming off in tiny pieces, extending the time to remove it all.

What about color of the car, do you like it or not? Would you like Kia to offer some lively colours when the next Spectra debuts?

  22. JTZ Says:

    December 20th, 2007 at 11:12 pm

You know what’s funny? I like the color on this car but not on the Kee concept.

  23. Jason Says:

    December 20th, 2007 at 11:16 pm

I like the green this car has. Hyundai USA has some nice colors. I think this color is similar to the Green Apple they have available for the Accent (3 door) and there’s also a nice yellow color. When the Rondo (aka: Carens) came to the USA I was hoping they’d bring the purple that’s available in Europe, but Kia let me down. I will say I absolutely love the rims on this car. They appear to have gone to 5 lug nuts. One thing that bothers me is when the spokes don’t match the number of lug nuts (4 lugs to 5 spokes, or like the new Sedona, 6 lugs to 5 spokes). So cheers to Kia for having 5 spokes and 5 lug nuts.

Well, it’s different colour than the one on Kee sports coupe. The colour is similar to that one used on Kia Picanto: http://www.clean-auto.com/IMG/jpg/5_KIA_picanto.jpg

  25. Bryan Says:

    December 21st, 2007 at 10:52 pm

Hee! That Picanto is looking pretty handsome these days. It will only keep doing better for sales in Europe and/or India and/or South America. It looks like the perfect rig for those countries and their smaller road systems, eh?

That green looks like the lime green found on many American power machines of the 70’s, like the Dodge Challenger. The green on that Picanto from the link looks like a darker, more apple-ish looking green to me. We’ll see eventually. I sure do like this new 2009 Kia Spectra, from these early masked looks, gentlemen.

Picanto has just received a facelift for 2008 model year. It was also launched in korea a few days ago. And it looks a bit different than European version. Actually, only the bumper is changed and it makes it look more sporty.

This is one of the posts I want to post here, but not all at once. I have a lot of Kia news, but decided not to post them all at once. One or two each day!

  28. K-Sport (Boris) Says:
