Kia Motors Corp. expects to sell 100,000 Mohave sport-utility vehicles worldwide next year as it is set to begin selling the new model.

The automaker plans to sell 18,000 units of the Mohave in South Korea next year and exports are likely to total 82,000 units, said Lee Kwang-woo, head of Kia’s domestic operations, in a press conference to introduce a revamped version of one of its buses.

“I’m confident that Mohave would win sales in competition with Hyundai Motor’s Veracruz,” Lee said, referring Hyundai’s latest SUV model.

Kia, an affiliate of Hyundai, plans to start selling the Mohave SUV early next year. The new SUV will be sold overseas with the different name of “Borrego.”

For the whole of this year, Kia aims to sell 1.54 million vehicles worldwide, up 22 per cent from 2006.

The sales number is very high for such a large SUV. Especially now, when the gas prices are record high. The main selling market for Borrego will be U.S. market and consumers there react on every gas price hike with turning to smaller SUVs or even crossovers.
This is not good for Borrego sales, but will be good for Kia Soul when it reaches the worldwide markets.
I sincerely hope Kia can manage to achieve the sales numbers and continue it’s march, together with Hyundai, towards No. 5 in the world!

hi. Just got the wheels mag. The Mohave test drive was there. They havent told much about it. they said the test car’s tiptronic trans is a bit sluggish, the V6 engine was powerful with250 bhp and 550Nm of torqe. its almost 5 m long and gets body on frame structure which we already know about. they say the V8 will be offered only in US (not confirmed). UAE will be getting V6 and and will go on sale by mid-2008. Borrego will make a world debut at detroit autoshow in jan.

in an interview with Peter, Peter said that BORREGO WILL COMPLETE THEIR SUV LINE UP.

Thanks Boris for your information. What was the interview with Schreyer about?Only about Mohave or something else?

  28. Boris Says:

    November 30th, 2007 at 9:36 am

About Mohave only. he also mentioned that the price will be low. I am expecting a price around the price of a toyota Land Cruiser or something less.
