Another day and here are new pictures of Kia Mohave! KIA-WORLD blog reveales the first clear look at Kia’s large SUV, which is set to make it’s Korean debut around new year.

It was revealed that the corporation’s all-new, mid-size, SUV will bear the name Kia Mohave when it makes it’s domestic premiere.

Basicly, this is the same vehicle as Kia Borrego. When searching for differences between Mohave and Borrego, we could only notice a new exclusively designed Mohave emblem and different chrome grille, that really adds up some style to the car’s face. Other than that, there are no other design modifications.

Mohave is Kia’s first automobile to be packed with company’s V6 diesel engine. The anticipated 3,0L engine will only be avaliable in S. Korea. It is powerfull enough to compete in a class rife with six cylinder diesel power. This very advanced engine punches out a hefty 250 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque.

the grill logo it’s very similar to the opirus logo (the next opirus), but it’s well that in the rest of the world the HM names Mohave

I’m not sure it could be Opirus logo coz the opirus logo is a badge with an “O” written in it, and on top of that “OPIRUS” is written. But given the name of a big horned sheep, we could say its a horned sheep logo :-) or the logo for Korea will be different.

BTW, Kia-Buzz.com has started again. They’ve posted more stuff but looking at the comments it looks like no one’s visiting it ever since “Design elements of the new Borrego”. They had stopped for around two weeks or so but their posting things again.

I was just got info from Mr. Kyehwan Roh – Assistant Manager – Environmental Management Team. The Borrego is gonna be coated with water based paints.

I like it too; however, like the Sorento, I want to see pictures of this SUV off road.

Speaking of logo, it would be nice if that logo was the new logo for all Kia models.

Well the logo of the “OPIRUS” it’s very oldier, about 2003 with the first Opirus, before, kia have a big K in gold color (see the Enterprise). I don’t think that this is a new logo for Kia, but now they have a 2 different logos, the Korean (is circular with blue, white and black) and the worldwide. Maybe is the model logo like Opirus.

This logo will only be used in Korea only. Kia puts specially designed logos on their luxury cars in it’s home market. And they consider Mohave to be a luxury SUV competing against Mercedes ML or BMW x5 at home. The slogan supporting Mohave promotion at Koren market is : Majesty Of Hightech Active Vehicle.

I guess that is where the name Mohave came from then and why the name is only in Korea.

wow its a surprise how schreyer can take a heavily stylised concept and make a clean, elegant but muscular production car out of it… it actually looks really good!!! cant wait to see the 4.6L Tau V8 under those hood bulges!!!

well this is a great look. I can’t wait for it to hit the shores here in the US so we can have a real compeditor for the mid-size SUV market. The Sorento is a little small whebn it comes to mid-size SUV’s( since it actually considered to be a compact SUV by size standards)

  16. Boris Says:

    November 24th, 2007 at 7:58 pm

Yes, Sorento is classified as a compact SUV. And I found that out only a few months ago :O . I mean with its size and off road capabilities I always thought it was a mid sizer. coming back to borrego, I earlier said that it was painted in water based paints. Can’t really tell the difference between the oil based and water based. Both look same. but these are just photos. maybe by keeping the oil based painted car side by side with borrego, we might be able to see mild differences. ;)

    Dear Kia:

Is it too late to reconsider your decision to also call the U.S. version the Borrego?

Mohave is a MUCH better name, esp. here in North America, IMHO. Nearly every American will recognize the Mohave desert reference/name, but the west coast-friendly ‘Borrego’ name will be totally foreign to the entire U.S population east of the Rocky Mts. It also will be mispronounced, and disparagingly mocked with nick names like “Booger-o” (a sinus discharge), etc.

Please seriously consider this. It would considerably reduce your vehicle badging expenses as well!

What do the rest of you think??

I like the “Borrego” name. It makes it sound more rugged. Mohave is definately more recognizeable. My 4 year old cousin even knows what the Mojave is!

It’s too late SpectraMan. They already decided on that name and probably also trademarked it in USA.
The Borrego sounds a bit uncommon at first, but you’ll get used to it.
