Hyundai, Kia Global Sales Figures For June 2014

Kia Motors sales edge up 3,5% in June, while Hyundai Motor Company increase 1,2%!

Both Korean automakers have posted strong sales at home and abroad, so let’s take a look at some interesting details.

Kia Sales Figures

An increase in overseas demand helped Kia Motors achieve a 3.5% sales increase over the numbers that they posted in June of last year.

All told, the carmaker sold 245,234 units in June 2014, a nice increase from the 236,989 units in June 2013.

2015 Forte 5-doorThe domestic market contracted 5.8% over the previous year, with 35,502 total units sold, while overseas numbers rose by 5.2% to reach 209,732 units for the month.

The overseas production numbers rose slightly, with production hitting 104,250 units.

Kia believes that it is improved brand awareness that has helped them achieve positive increases overseas.

Among the sales success stories for Kia in June were the Forte, the Sportage R, and the always consistent Optima midsize sedan.

The new Carnival minivan, which was launched in Korea a few weeks ago, was able to attract 2,684 customers after just 6 days of being made available in the marketplace.

Year-To-Date Sales

To the halfway point of the year, Kia has managed 1,547,040 sales, which represents a 7% increase over the same period last year.

Of that number, a total of 1,328,276 units were sold abroad, which is a 9% increase over last year.

The numbers weren’t so bright on the domestic front though, with a 3.4% drop over last year.

Kia expects the upward sales trend to continue, as the Soul EV and re-designed Sorento crossover vehicle are expected to be released in the coming months.

Hyundai Sales

Hyundai Motor has recorded a 1.2 percent increase in sales from a year earlier, helped by demand for both brand new and steady selling vehicles at home and abroad.

hyundai-santa feThe automaker’s official press release revealed a sales of 412,648 cars last month, with domestic sales rising solid 7.9 percent to 59,915 and overseas shipments moving up 0.2 percent to 352,733 cars.

Overseas output advanced 4.1 percent to 251,493 units, while exports of cars made in South Korea fell 8.5 percent on-year.

At home, the sales of the just-recently introduced Sonata sedan totaled 10,793 units, making it the top selling vehicle in the carmaker’s lineup.

The June 2014 sales of the Genesis luxury sedan totaled 3,605 units, while numbers for the Grandeur premium sedan reached 6,769 units.

Year-To-Date Hyundai Sales

For the January-June period, Hyundai said it sold 2,496,375 cars, up 4.4 percent from the year before, with overseas sales gaining 4.1 percent to 2,149,941 vehicles.

Domestic market sales were up more than 6% from a year earlier to 346,434 units.

Hyundai’s top-selling vehicle in Korea so far this year has been the Sonata sedan with 54,785 units sold, while sales of new Genesis jumped three-fold to 20,380 vehicles.
