Say hello to the Kia cee’d GT!

Kia pro_cee’d GT was the carmaker’s first foray into the high performance hot hatchback market, and that model is now being joined by a 5-door variant, the cee’d GT.

This model comes with all the performance and styling of the 3-door, but also mixes in a nice amount of practicality.

The all new Kia cee’d GT 5-door hatchback will have pride of place among Kia’s European designed, engineered, and built mid-sized hatchback range.

It will come in a pair of different versions: the cee’d GT costing £20,495, and the cee’d GT Tech priced at £22,995.

Each of the versions will have the same turbocharged 1.6L GDI direct-injection petrol engine under the hood, delivering 201 bhp and 265Nm of torque.

The performance of both is fantastic, with a top speed of 143 mph and acceleration from 0-60 mph in just 7.4 seconds.

In order to be able to handle the extra power, both models have had their suspensions re-tuned.

Also added into the mix are stiffer springs and brushes, increased damper rebound, a large anti-roll bar in the rear, and 18-inch alloys with Michelin Pilot tires.

The brakes are the most powerful ever used in the c’eed range and are 300mm ventilated discs at the front and 262mm at the rear.

The lines were already sporty on the c’eed, but thy have been further enhanced on the GT to give it a much more distinctive look. The same rules apply with the layout of the interior.

1,6L Turbo GDI Engine

The turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection (T-GDi) engine delivers the horsepower required to move this great car, but it’s the 265Nm of torque that gives it the response and blistering acceleration.

Placed in fourth gear, the c’eed GT goes from 37 to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds, whilst going from 50-75 mph in fifth gear in just 7.3 seconds.

Both of those times are clear signs of the flexibility of the engine. Over 80% of available maximum torque comes at less than 1500 rpm.

It would be easy to look at the GT as a pure performance car, but this is also a vehicle that fits what Kia is trying to do across the lineup, which is delivering cars that offer great fuel efficiency and low exhaust emissions.

This is achieved via the small engine capacity and direct fuel injection, which deliver combined fuel consumption of 38.2 mpg and CO2 emissions at 171g/km.

It is also the revised ratios and slick 6-speed manual that allow the car to get the most out of its torque and keep fuel consumption low.

Cee’d GT 5-Door Styling Tweaks

Kia cee'd GT hot hatchbackThe aforementioned styling changes are similar to that of the pro_cee’d GT, with a lower, broader bumper up front, as well as a  wider, lower air intake that maximizes the amount of cooling air sent to the turbocharger.

A red trim line has been added to accentuate those changes.

The aforementioned air intake is flanked by high-gloss black inserts that house LED daytime running lights and fog lights.

That gloss look continues on the frame of the main radiator grill, which as you might expect also includes Kia’s Tiger Nose look. A cool looking GT badge has also been added to finish of the loo.

Around back, large shoulders give the GT a broad stance that is further emphasized by a diffuser section in the lower part of the rear bumper, where separated dual exhausts can be found.

High gloss black is used to frame the number plate, which is straddled by vertical reversing lights and reflectors.

A GT badge can be seen on the tail light, with LED’s used to give the car a signature look when braking.

Side sill moldings have been added to make the side profile all the more impressive. The addition of 18-inch alloy wheels in a stunning graphite grey also help.

Red brake calipers in front and back are a clear indicator of the performance, which is further highlighted by a chrome strip around the side windows.

Another great touch are the electrically folding and heated mirrors that feature LED turn signals.

The performance exterior carries through to the inside of the GT and the all-black cabin. Recaro sports seats are used up front, just as they are in the pro_cee’d GT.

They get a cool finish thanks to the addition of GT and Recaro logos. They are comfortable, too, as both have adjustable lumbar support.

There is a combination of suede and leather used in the seat fabric, and red stitching is used to great effect on the seats, steering wheel, gear shift, and door trims.

The GT logo can be found overstitched on the leather steering wheel, with the sporty look finished off with stainless steel pedals.

Trim Levels (UK market): GT, GT Tech

There are a pair of trim levels, starting with the GT, although there are plenty of features you would not expect to find on an entry-level model.

Standard items include air conditioning, cruise control with a speed limiter, automatic lights, cornering lights, reversing sensors, Bluetooth phone connectivity with music streaming and voice recognition, a six speaker radio/CD player with iPod connectivity, a unique ‘GT’ TFT LCD display, electric windows, electrically operated and heated folding mirrors with puddle lights and privacy glass on the rear windows and tailgate.

There are a few extras on the GT Tech trim, including a 7-inch touchscreen that comes with satellite navigation, with a few UK and European specific features added in for good measure.
